Harry Reid’s Plan to Save the Nevada Economy: Coked-up Stimulus Monkeys VIDEO

Nevada — In the face of the worst recession since the Great Depression, where has the money from Harry Reid’s stimulus bill gone to help our ailing economy? Cocaine-addled monkeys and a million dollars worth of exotic ants, according to a new report out this morning.

“Harry Reid says ‘no one can do more’ for Nevada. We had no idea Harry’s plan of ‘more’ meant spending millions on coked-up monkeys and exotic ants while our state is ravaged by the worst foreclosure rate and highest unemployment rate in the nation,” said Jerry Stacy, spokesman for U.S. Senatorial Sharron Angle.

Other examples of how the stimulus has squandered taxpayer dollars include $750,000 towards creating a YouTube-like computerized dance choreography program; $300,000 to study the effects of “integral yoga” upon hot flashes; and $60,000 to study public perception of stimulus spending.

“Harry Reid promised his $787 billion stimulus bill would create jobs. Instead of creating jobs, this wasteful bill has piled on ‘more’ massive debt and ‘more’ unemployment in Nevada since the bill’s passage,” Stacy said. “Nevada needs a Senator who will fight for economic policies that fosters an environment which encourages real job creation and gets Nevada moving again. That’s Sharron Angle.”

A New Report Out This Morning Highlights The Massive Amounts Of Waste In Harry Reid’s Stimulus Bill:

A Few Examples Of The Waste Highlighted In The Report Include:

● $71,623 To Study How Monkeys Are Affected By Cocaine. “The Coburn-McCain report takes issue with stimulus spending on projects like one that entailed research on how cocaine affects monkeys. The Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center was awarded $71,623 to study what the report calls, ‘Monkeys Getting High for Science.’” (Jonathan Karl, Matthew Jaffe, and Gregory Simmons, “Stimulus Slammed: Republican Senators Release Report Alleging Waste,” ABC News, www.abcnews.go.co, 8/3/10)

● $1 Million On A Grant To Study Ants In The Indian Ocean Islands And East Africa. “Go a little further down the list and you’ll find even bigger spending. The California Academy of Sciences is receiving nearly $1 million in stimulus funds to send researchers to the Southwest Indian Ocean Islands and East Africa to capture, photograph and analyze thousands of exotic ants.” (Jonathan Karl, Matthew Jaffe, and Gregory Simmons, “Stimulus Slammed: Republican Senators Release Report Alleging Waste,” ABC News, www.abcnews.go.co, 8/3/10)

● $300,000 To Study Yoga And Hot Flashes. “There’s also funding for yoga and hot flashes. Researchers at Wake Forest University have received nearly $300,000 to study whether integral yoga ‘can be an effective method to reduce the frequency and/or severity of hot flashes’ in breast cancer survivors.” (Jonathan Karl, Matthew Jaffe, and Gregory Simmons, “Stimulus Slammed: Republican Senators Release Report Alleging Waste,” ABC News, www.abcnews.go.co, 8/3/10)

Harry Reid Promised The Stimulus Bill Would Create Jobs

Reid Urged His Fellow Senators To Support The Stimulus Bill And Said It Was Something That They “Must Do.” Reid: “[I] urge my colleagues, both Democrats and Republicans, to dedicate this day to responsibly passing this legislation and sending it to the President so we can say we have marched down that road, that road to economic recovery. There is no perfect solution to what we are attempting. There is no book you can check out of the library to say this is what should be done. There is no group of economists we can go to and tell them to prepare a paper in the next couple of hours to give us direction as to what to do. We must do this on our own, and we will do this on our own.” (CNN’s, “Newsroom,” 2/6/09)

In A Press Release After The Stimulus Passed, Reid’s Office Boasted That It Would Create 34,000 Nevada Jobs. “Nevada Senator Harry Reid announced today that Nevada will receive more than $1 billion for transportation and modernization projects, investments in renewable energy and education and assistance for the unemployed as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Through investments including $250 million in local transportation projects, these federal dollars will create 34,000 Nevada jobs, cut taxes for the middle class, sustain endangered state services and invest in Nevada’s future. The bill passed the House of Representatives earlier today and is now up for a vote in the Senate.” (Senator Harry Reid Press Release, http://reid.senate.gov/pr_021309_nvrecoverypkg.cfm, Posted 2/13/09)

Eric Cantor Statement on Virginia Health Care Ruling

Eric Cantor

Uploaded on December 8, 2009 by republicanconference Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial 2.0 Generic
WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-07) today issued the following statement in response to the ruling by Judge Henry Hudson of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia which rejected the Obama Administration’s attempt to dismiss Virginia’s lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the Democrats' trillion dollar health care overhaul:

"The Democrats' trillion dollar health care overhaul will raise taxes on working families and small businesses, cut Medicare benefits for seniors, increase the cost of insurance premiums for many Virginians, and burden our state with unfunded mandates we simply cannot afford.

"Virginia has taken the lead, with more than a dozen other states, by challenging the constitutionality of the health insurance mandate requiring all Americans to purchase health insurance or face a penalty, as well as passing the Virginia Health Care Freedom Act protecting the people of the Commonwealth from being forced to do so.
I fully support these efforts and will continue to advocate proposals to improve health care, while protecting individual choices and freedoms.

"Governor McDonnell, Attorney General Cuccinelli, and the people of Virginia understand we need to repeal this harmful health care law. Republicans will use every tool available to repeal it and replace it with a more incremental approach that will lower costs, provide affordable state-based health care options, and empower doctors and patients." ###

Federal judge ruling against Department of Justice Motion to Dismiss Virginia health care lawsuit; FULL TEXT

Richmond (August 2, 2010) – A federal judge ruled today that Virginia does indeed have standing to bring its lawsuit seeking to invalidate the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The judge also ruled that Virginia had stated a legally sufficient claim in its complaint. In doing so, federal district court judge Henry E. Hudson denied the federal government’s motion to dismiss the commonwealth’s suit.

“We are pleased that Judge Hudson agreed that Virginia has the standing to move forward with our suit and that our complaint alleged a valid claim,” said Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli. Cuccinelli and his legal team had their first opportunity in court on July 1, arguing that Virginia’s lawsuit was a valid challenge of the federal health care act and that the court should not dismiss the case as the federal government had requested.

The U.S. Department of Justice argued that Virginia lacked the standing to bring a suit, that the suit is premature, and that the federal government had the power under the U.S. Constitution to mandate that citizens must be covered by government-approved health insurance or pay a monetary penalty.

In denying the motion to dismiss, Judge Hudson found that Virginia had alleged a legally recognized injury to its sovereignty, given the government’s assertion that the federal law invalidates a Virginia law, the Health Care Freedom Act. In addressing the issue of Virginia’s statute, the Court recognized that the “mere existence of the lawfully-enacted [Virginia] statute is sufficient to trigger the duty of the Attorney General of Virginia to defend the law and the associated sovereign power to enact it.” He also found that even though the federal insurance mandate doesn’t take effect until 2014, the case is “ripe” because a conflict of the laws is certain to occur.

“This lawsuit is not about health care, it’s about our freedom and about standing up and calling on the federal government to follow the ultimate law of the land – the Constitution,” Cuccinelli said. “The government cannot draft an unwilling citizen into commerce just so it can regulate him under the Commerce Clause.”

The Court recognized that the federal health care law and its associated penalty were literally unprecedented. Specifically, the Court wrote that “[n]o reported case from any federal appellate court has extended the Commerce Clause or Tax Clause to include the regulation of a person’s decision not to purchase a product, notwithstanding its effect on interstate commerce.”

A summary judgment hearing is scheduled for October 18, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. to decide if the federal health care law is unconstitutional.

The case is Commonwealth of Virginia v. Kathleen Sebelius in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, in Richmond.

Ron Paul SEC Transparency Act H.R.5970 FULL TEXT

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Ron Paul today introduced the SEC Transparency Act of 2010. Recent news reports have publicized a little-noticed provision in the recently-passed financial reform package that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has used to deny requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Congressman Paul's SEC Transparency Act of 2010 repeals the provision in the newly-passed legislation that the SEC has used to deny FOIA requests and ensures that the SEC will remain transparent and accountable to the American people.

“It is unfortunate, yet not unexpected, that legislation touted as fixing problems with the banking system, actually makes them worse and provides more cover and power for organizations that failed us like the SEC and the Fed. I expect in the coming weeks and months that many more harmful provisions like this will come to light and it will take quite a bit of work to undo the damage from this massive and misguided legislation,” stated Congressman Paul. ###

Meg Whitman contrasts her judicial philosophy with Jerry Brown's record VIDEO

CUPERTINO - Please see Meg Whitman's column appearing on Fox & Hounds Daily website today in which she details how she would appoint judges, if elected Governor. She contrasts her selection criteria with Jerry Brown's failed record of making poor choices, including naming Rose Bird to the top judicial post in the state.

Fox & Hounds Daily: Judicial Nominees Speak Volumes About Principles

By Meg Whitman

The recent retirement announcement from California Supreme Court Chief Justice Ronald George reminds us that the governor has very important appointment powers.

A governor's judicial nominees speak volumes about their guiding principles. Moreover, these appointees - and their decisions - live long after the governor who appointed them has left office.

Californians expect their governor to take these appointments seriously, and I want people to know what I would expect of those whom I would appoint to the bench. Judicial Nominees Speak Volumes About Principles FULL TEXT

Roy Blunt Explosion of National Response to Obama-Rubberstamp Robin Ad Over 170,000 Internet Views VIDEO

ST. LOUIS – There has been an explosion of views for Roy Blunt’s latest campaign ad entitled “Missouri’s Future.” The new ad has already reached a record of over 160,000 views on YouTube, crushing the total views of other campaign TV ads posted by Missouri officials and candidates, as well as many statewide candidates across the country.

“It’s encouraging to see such a large number of people responding so strongly to the truth that Robin Carnahan is a rubberstamp for the Pelosi-Reid-Obama extreme liberal agenda,” said Blunt spokesperson Rich Chrismer. “The ad simply features Barack Obama in his own words asking Missourians to send him “another vote” with Rubberstamp Robin Carnahan for higher job-killing taxes and regulation, government takeovers and a failing ‘stimulus’ bill that grows government, not jobs. With over 160,000 Internet views, voters are clearly rejecting the idea of sending another liberal rubberstamp to Washington whose votes and actions would be directed by Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Barack Obama.”

The ad which features Barack Obama urging Missourians to vote for Robin Carnahan because he needs "another vote" for his agenda of deficit spending, government control of health care, a national energy tax, more job-killing regulation and other Washington liberal goals, has garnered national attention and presented Missourians with the clear choice in this election. The national media has said the ad is the first test case for the popularity of Barack Obama and his policies.

Full text transcript of Senator Johanns’ Address:

Hello, I’m Senator Mike Johanns from the great state of Nebraska.

I begin with a very sincere question for our President.

Isn’t it time, Mr. President, to tone down the rhetoric and to govern?

I’m a relatively new member of the U.S. Senate. But, I’ve had an opportunity to serve in the Cabinet; to govern a state; and to serve as the Mayor of a wonderful community.

And I learned early on that to advance an agenda, a leader needs to pull people together.

You talk about creating jobs and that sounds good, but your policies just do the opposite – with a fiercely anti-business tone.

Let’s take an honest look at the impact of your agenda.

More than 80 percent of jobs are provided by the private sector. Those are the jobs that put food on the table, pay the mortgage, and send our children to college.

Our small businesses generate 65 percent of the new jobs.

In Nebraska, we like to call them our Mom and Pop enterprises.

These are really good people who don’t want to get caught-up in a political debate.

They want to get up in the morning, head to work and find creative ways to build their businesses.

And your policies, Mr. President, are hurting them.

Let me give you an example: embedded in...

your health care law – under Section 9006 – is a job-crushing provision.

It affects every business, every church and charity; every state and local government.

It requires all of them to track their purchases and when they hit $600 with any vendor in a year – for any services or supplies – your health care law requires them to file a 10-99 form with the IRS and with that vendor.

This will create a mountain of new paperwork – increasing it by as much as 2,000 percent, according to one study.

One small business owner in Nebraska did an analysis and came to the conclusion it will cost his business an extra $15 thousand dollars a year.

Now that may not sound like much here in Washington, but to a small business in Nebraska, that would go a long way to putting another American to work.

Instead, that money will pay for paperwork… and for what purpose, Mr. President?

Even the National Taxpayer Advocate – a division of the IRS itself – predicts there will be little benefit and a mess of erroneous tax penalties.

This foolish policy hammers our business community when we should be supporting their job growth.

It’s only one example of how the Administration’s promise to support small businesses really rings hollow.

Then there’s the employer mandate in the health care law, which studies confirm will divert money from wages.

It forces employers to provide government-approved coverage or pay a tax of $2,000 per employee.

Another example: the new Medicare tax.

The majority of small businesses pay taxes at the individual level, so this new $210 billion tax will hurt; hitting businesses that employ between 20 and 200 workers especially hard.

And that’s one-quarter of our workforce.

To put it simply; your actions thus far, Mr. President, don’t encourage small businesses to hire employees.

You’re signaling to the business owners that they best be very cautious, not only because of the flurry of new taxes and regulations, but also because a national energy tax is next on your agenda.

It's time to stop pushing anti-growth policies and start supporting a real job growth agenda.

After all, what matters most is what we actually do, not what we say.

I'm Senator Mike Johanns of Nebraska. Thank you for your time.

Administrative Alternatives to Comprehensive Immigration Reform USCIS Memo‎ FULL TEXT

Administrative Alternatives to Comprehensive Immigration Reform USCIS Memo‎ FULL TEXT. Obama Administration Memo Cites Non-Legislative Amnesty As Possible Option On Illegal Immigration

Senate Republicans have an internal memo from the Department of Homeland Security that shows the Obama administration "conspiring" and "scheming" to give permanent resident status, or green cards to illegal immigrants in the United States.

The 11-page memo prepared for Alejandro N. Mayorkas, Director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is titled, "Administrative Alternatives to Comprehensive Immigration Reform." Obtained by Republican Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa, who said the intent of the memo is "to find very secret creative ways to unilaterally circumvent the law and have a backdoor to amnesty."

Grassley and 11 other senators question by way of letter, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano on her use of "discretionary authority to let people who are illegally in the country to stay." The letter was signed by Senators. Grassley, Thad Cochran of Mississippi, Johnny Isakson of Georgia, Jim DeMint of South Carolina, Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, James Inhofe of Oklahoma, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, David Vitter of Louisiana, Orrin Hatch of Utah, Jim Bunning of Kentucky, Pat Roberts of Kansas and Jeff Sessions of Alabama.

SUBJECT: Administrative Alternatives to Comprehensive Immigration Reform

I. Purpose

This memorandum offers administrative relief options to promote family unity. foster economic growth, achieve significant process improvements and reduce the threat of removal for certain individuals present in the United Slates without authorization. It includes recommendations regarding implementation time frames and required resources.

ll. Summary

In the absence of Comprehensive immigration Reform, USCIS can extend benefits and/or protections to many individuals and groups by issuing new guidance and regulations, exercising discretion with regard to parole-in-place. deferred action and the issuance of Notices to Appear (NTA), and adopting significant process improvements.

To promote family unity, USCIS could reinterpret lwO 1990 General Counsel Opinions regarding the ability of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) applicants who entered the United Slates (U. S.) without inspection to adjust or change status. This would enable thousands of individuals in TPS status to become lawful permanent residents. Similarly. where non· TPS applicants have been deemed inadmissible under section 212(a)(6)(AXi) of the Immigration and Nationality Act ("the Act") for having entered without inspection, USCIS could grant "parole·in·place" (PIP) in the exercise of discretion to create II basis for adjustment in the U.S.

Tim Pawlenty History Is On Our Side Freedom First PAC VIDEO

Americans succeed in large measure because we are the freest people the world has ever known. It is foundational to who we are and to our success -- freedom allows ordinary people to do extraordinary things. We need to raise awareness about the importance of these freedoms, and fight for them when they are threatened.

Right now, our freedoms are being challenged on many fronts. One such challenge is encroachment on our liberties by an unceasing Federal bureaucracy. Little by little, it suffocates individual freedom, personal responsibility and the free market. It can happen quietly -- it’s not always a grand debate over something like health care. It can happen in increments that people don’t even see or know about, but nevertheless deflates the human spirit.

We need to protect the freedom to be an entrepreneur without being stifled by over-burdensome taxes and regulations; the freedom to not be in financial bondage because the government ran up more debt than we can ever pay off; the freedom to choose a good school for our children; the freedom to choose a doctor without having a bureaucrat in the middle; and the freedom that comes from being safe from foreign enemies.

Our values and principles are being tested. What we believe as conservatives is being tested. The values and principles of our country – which I believe are conservative – are being tested. But expressing our concern is not enough. We need to organize, mobilize and fight back.

This organization is dedicated to putting freedom first again in America. By helping candidates and translating our ideas into policies that everyone can relate to and support, we can turn back the growth of Washington and renew the promise of freedom.

At That Pace, It May Be Years Before The Economy Returns To The Trend It Was On Before The Financial Crisis Hit.”

Darrell Issa

President Obama at Signing of Financial Reform Bill: “It demands accountability and responsibility from everyone…It demands accountability and responsibility from everyone…And we all win when folks are rewarded based on how well they perform, not how well they evade accountability.”
WASHINGTON D.C. – Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), the Ranking Member of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, today introduced H.R. 5924, the “SEC Freedom of Information Restoration Act” which will repeal section 9291 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act that allows the SEC to not "disclose records or information" that are typically subjects of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.

“Note this as just the latest example of Congress passing and the President signing legislation into law without fully understanding what's in it,” Issa said. “Either that or the Administration knowingly orchestrated the inclusion of a provision that shields the SEC from the transparency and accountability this reform bill was supposed to represent. Regardless of intent, both Democrats and Republicans alike should agree that we cannot allow this regulatory body that failed to catch Allen Stanford's fraud and Bernie Madoff's ponzi scheme to operate in secrecy. Hopefully, we can partner together and swiftly pass legislation I am introducing today to repeal Section 9291 and ensure that the SEC will be held to the highest possible standard of accountability and transparency.”

The SEC Freedom of Information Restoration Act was co-sponsored by House Financial Services Committee Ranking Member Spencer Bachus (R-AL) as well as by Reps. Brian Bilbray (R-CA), Dan Burton (R-IN), Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), John Duncan (R-TN), Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE), Jim Jordan (R-OH), Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO), John Mica (R-FL), Patrick McHenry (R-NC), Aaron Schock (R-IL) and Bill Shuster (R-PA). ###

John Thune Introduces Common Sense Budget Reform Bill

John ThuneProposal to tackle runaway spending and borrowing, reduce deficit

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator John Thune introduced legislation that will begin to tackle the nation's ballooning $13 trillion debt by reforming the budget process and cutting federal spending and borrowing.
“As families across our country make tough financial choices to live within their means, Washington continues to spend borrowed money at an alarming and dangerous rate,” said Thune. “My bill would cut and cap spending, reform the broken budget process, end the trust fund dishonesty, and create a new permanent joint Congressional committee tasked with continuously cutting the deficit without raising taxes. While my proposal will not be a cure-all for our nation's economic woes, it would fundamentally change the way Congress does business.

“Our dangerous national debt is not an issue we can continue to pass along to future generations of Americans. This legislation is a necessary first step toward reining in Washington's runaway spending habits, while restoring fiscal accountability to our government.”

Thune's budget reform legislation, The Deficit Reduction and Budget Reform Act of 2010, takes a three-pronged approach to reducing the rapidly expanding burden of growing debt and deficits for American families and businesses. By imposing strict new limits on federal spending, reforming the budget process, and creating a new standing committee of Congress for budget deficit reduction, Congress can prove to the American people that it is serious about cutting spending and growing our economy.

Details of Thune's legislation are outlined below.

Part I: Eliminating Wasteful Spending

Discretionary Spending Caps

Establishes binding discretionary spending caps for all non-defense, non-veteran, non-homeland security discretionary spending from 2011 to 2020. Discretionary spending caps are set at Fiscal Year 2008 levels adjusted for inflation, and any bill that exceeds the spending caps is subject to a point of order.

Stop Stimulus Spending

Ends unobligated stimulus spending on September 30, 2010. Stimulus tax provisions would be allowed to expire on December 31, 2010 as enacted by the stimulus bill.

Part II: Budget Reform

Improving PAYGO and Trust Fund Accounting

Reforms PAYGO rules to prevent the double-counting of new revenues or reduced spending in trust funds for the purposes of offsetting other expenditures. Over $600 billion in trust fund offsets were used to pass the health care reform bill and earlier this year an attempt was made to increase the per-barrel tax for the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund to offset other non-related tax measures. By preventing these changes from being used as an offset under PAYGO rules in the future, this provision would end the practice of double accounting these spending reductions and revenue increases.

Binding Federal Budget

Reforms the budget process by requiring a binding joint budget resolution. Since the joint resolution would have to be signed into law, the Administration and Congress are forced to work more closely on the joint budget resolution and Congress would have less flexibility to violate this resolution.

Biennial Budget

Establishes a biennial budgeting timeline. In odd numbered years, Congress would pass two-year biennial budgets. In even numbered years, Congress would pass two-year appropriation bills. A biennial budget would give Congress more time for oversight of government spending during even numbered years. This provision is particularly important because Congress has only completed all of the annual appropriation bills on time in four of the last 34 years.

Legislative Line-Item Veto

Creates a legislative line-item veto. The President may propose to Congress a cancellation of any discretionary spending item, direct spending item, limited tariff benefit or targeted tax benefit contained within a bill or joint resolution. Upon Congressional approval, any cancellations must be applied to reducing the deficit or increasing a surplus.

Part III: New Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction

Standing Joint Committee of Congress on Deficit Reduction

Creates a permanent Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction composed of a bipartisan group of 20 members—10 from the House of Representatives and 10 from the Senate. Every other year, the new Joint Committee must introduce legislation that eliminates or reduces spending on wasteful government programs and achieves a savings of at least 10 percent of the previous year’s budget deficit. The legislation to reduce spending or wasteful programs would receive expedited consideration in the House and Senate. ###
