Governor Sarah Palin made history on Dec. 4, 2006, when she took office. As the 11th governor of Alaska, she is the first woman to hold the office.

Since taking office, her top priorities have been resource development, education and workforce development, public health and safety, and transportation and infrastructure development.
Under her leadership, Alaska invested $5 billion in state savings, overhauled education funding, and implemented the Senior Benefits Program that provides support for low-income older Alaskans. She created Alaska’s Petroleum Systems Integrity Office to provide oversight and maintenance of oil and gas equipment, facilities and infrastructure, and the Climate Change Subcabinet to prepare a climate change strategy for Alaska.
Highlights of Governor Palin's tenure include a successful push for an ethics bill, and also shelving pork-barrel projects. During her first legislative session, Governor Palin’s administration passed two major pieces of legislation – an overhaul of the state’s ethics laws and a competitive process to construct a gas pipeline. The Palin Family in Juneau (2007)

Palin's tenure is noted for her independence from big oil companies, while still promoting resource development. Palin has announced plans to create a new sub-cabinet group of advisors, to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions within Alaska.

After federal funding for the Gravina Island Bridge project that had become a nationwide symbol of wasteful earmark spending was lost, Palin decided against filling the over $200 million gap with state money. "Alaska needs to be self-sufficient instead of relying heavily on 'federal dollars,' as the state does today."

Senator John McCain of Arizona introduces Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska as his running mate at Dayton, Ohio rally FULL STREAMING VIDEO FULL TEXT TRANSCRIPT
Governor Palin is chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, a multi-state government agency that promotes the conservation and efficient recovery of domestic oil and natural gas resources while protecting health, safety and the environment. She was recently named chair of the National Governors Association (NGA) Natural Resources Committee,
which is charged with pursuing legislation to ensure state needs are considered as federal policy is formulated in the areas of agriculture, energy, environmental protection and natural resource management. Prior to being named to this position, she served as co-chair of this committee.

Prior to her election as governor, Palin served two terms on the Wasilla City Council and two terms as the mayor/manager of Wasilla. During her tenure, she reduced her own salary and property tax levels by 40% while increasing services and made Wasilla a business friendly environment, drawing in new industry.

She has served as chair of the Alaska Conservation Commission, which regulates Alaska's most valuable non-renewable resources: oil and gas. She was elected by her peers to serve as president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors. In this role, she worked with local, state and federal officials to promote solutions to the needs of Alaska's communities. Governor Murkowski appointed Palin Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, where she served from 2003 to 2004

Govenor Palin is the daughter of Sarah (née Sheeran), a school secretary, and Charles R. Heath, a science teacher and track coach. She has English, Irish, and German ancestry. The Heaths were avid outdoors enthusiasts; Sarah and her father would sometimes wake at 3 a.m. to hunt moose before school, and the family regularly ran 5 km and 10 km races

Sarah Heath Palin arrived in Alaska with her family in 1964, when her parents came to teach school in Skagway and has lived in Eagle River and Wasilla as well. She received a bachelor of science degree in communications-journalism from the University of Idaho in 1987 where she also minored in politics.

Palin, who graduated from Wasilla High School in 1982, was the head of the school Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the point guard and captain for the basketball team that won the Alaska small-school championship in 1982, Sarah hit a critical free throw in the last seconds, despite a stress fracture in her ankle. She earned the nickname "Sarah Barracuda" because of her intense play and was the leader of team prayer before games.

In 1984, after winning the Miss Wasilla contest, Palin finished second in the Miss Alaska beauty pageant which earned her a scholarship which helped pay her way through college. In the Wasilla pageant where her talent was flute playing she was named Miss Congeniality.

She is married to Todd Palin her high school sweetheart on August 29, 1988, who is a lifelong Alaskan, a production operator on the North Slope and a four-time champion of the Iron Dog, the world's longest snowmachine race. The two eloped shortly after Palin graduated from college; when they learned they needed witnesses for the civil ceremony, they recruited two residents from the old-age home down the street. The Palin family lives in Wasilla, about 40 miles (64 km) north of Anchorage.

Todd and Sarah fish in Bristol Bay with their children – Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper and Trig. Through Todd’s Yup'ik grandmother, Alaska’s Native heritage plays an important role in their family. Track enlisted in the U.S. Army on Sept. 11, 2007. He now serves in an infantry brigade and will be deployed to Iraq in September 2008.

On April 18, 2008, Palin gave birth to her second son, Trig Paxson Van Palin, who has Down syndrome. She returned to the office three days after giving birth. Palin refused to let the results of prenatal genetic testing change her decision to have the baby. "I'm looking at him right now, and I see perfection," Palin said. "Yeah, he has an extra chromosome. I keep thinking, in our world, what is normal and what is perfect?

Prior to taking office, Palin served on numerous boards and commissions throughout the state. She was active in her family’s pursuits – including serving as a sports team mom and school volunteer. She also runs marathons.

Palin holds a lifetime membership with the National Rifle Association and enjoys hunting, ice fishing, Alaska history, and all that Alaska's great outdoors has to offer. She eats moose hamburger, rides snowmobiles, and owns a float plane. State of Alaska Official Biography

McCain in the Membrane...watch out because McCain's INSANE!

I do not understand McCain at all. All summer long he has blasted Obama because he does not have enough experience and has not spent enough time in Washington D.C. to be corrupted.

Then in a blink of an eye, McCain nominated an inexperienced governer to be his running mate. In some ways I am not surprised because it is the typical Republican strategy: FLIP FLOP and spin the argument.

But c'mon, I expected better of McCain. Up until this point, I respected him because I saw him as a closet BLUE DOG DEMOCRAT in the GOP. I guess he is not the maverick I thought he was back in 2000.

No disrespect to the People & State of Alaska, but this is a state that has more reindeer than people. Gov. Palin has not even completed her first term and is clearly unqualified.

Gov. Palin's sole purpose is to be a puppet to draw the media attention that only Paris Hilton can appreciate.

One more proof that McCain's judgement is clouded and he has no clue!

you've got to be kidding me . . . what a ridiculous choice. it has only been a few months since she was on the City Council for some small Alaska town. No matter what they are saying publicly, every Republican is thinking the same thing--McCain has made the worst VP pick since Dan Quayle. While Ms. Palin appears to be a lovely woman with a beautiful family, being a "hockey mom" does not qualify her to be Commander and Chief. Almost anyone else on McCain's short list would have been better.

Gov. Palin has shown that she knows the roll government should play in our lives, she doesn't stand for corruption even in her own party, she is obviously very intelligent and an uncommon asset of good common sense. Obama, on the other had has a Muslim background, associations with W. Ayres, a known terrorist, he bases his ideology on the teachings of Saul Alinsky, a Marxist, and his tax plan will be a disaster for our economy, 401K's, IRA's etc. He has changed his views on just about everything he says he stands for, he attended Pastor Jeremiah Wrights "Christian" church for 20 years listening to his hate sermons. Wright was a muslim before he found it convenient to spread his hate through a Protestant church. Be careful what you wish for.

experience? city council 92-96, mayor 96-02 of a "small" town wasilla, est. pop. 8,471, in the army this size command would usually make you a "short" general, in the navy an admiral, governor 06 to present, state pop. aprox. 670,053

so we have aprox. 8 years of executive (the buck stops here) experience to senator obama's, oh yeah 0.

that said you know what, i couldn't care less how much experience you have. how much do you need to tell the difference between right and wrong.

Cupcake all the republicans i know, myself included are tremendously excited by john's choice.

Jorge your name calling of senator mccain and governor palin does not speak well of you or senator obama imho.

l8r your friend sookietex :-)

Congratulations on probably the most insightful, logical and inspiring pick for VP. This woman is definitely qualified to run the country. She would have my vote based on her qualifications even if she was a democrat.
Kudos to John McCain for doing what many of us have wanted for years. Some common sense and real life experience in office!!

Definitely could have done better than Sara as his pick. She's got an undergrad degree only and very little experience. Can't see her in charge, should somthing happen to McCain. Bazaar choice for sure !

Sarah Palin. What a marvelous choice! It's high time we get the lawyers out of our government leadership roles. How refreshing! A woman with a wide variety of experience and can speak from her heart and without a teleprompter. IF or WHEN she might have to take over the Presidency, she'll be ready and do well. Get over it Dems--we've got a winning ticket and you've got a lawyer with NO experience and a senator wanna be president that couldn't and was going to retire. Get your head out of the sand, move over and let a team that has ideas and goals that are good for our country take charge!

Gentlemen and Ladies, this is probably the worst inept decision that a hero of this nation could make. I now understand why McCain was caught and made a prisoner of war by the enemy! McCain is reactive not proactive. Please just look at this: We are talking about a country of about 300 million people, not a city of 600, 000 (That's all people in the State of Alaska). I am not against us having a vice-president who is female, however, no one will employ an in-experienced manager to run a company of 300 Million dollars turn over, if all s/he had ever run was one with a 600, 000 turnover! Any graduate with a BS Business Administration degree will tell you that. McCain's Choice of Governor Sarah Palin is a reactive decision, not an objective choice, that's why his presidency run effort is going to fail, Pronto! The thought of McCain being incapacitated and Sarah sitting in the Oval office, just makes me skirmish. It's awful, but possible! We all must now vote OBAMA or get eaten up by the AlQaidda!

A town of 7,000 when she was mayor, umm, not much of exec. experience there,

She's no Margaret Thatcher and her views on social issues are based in the past. We need someone who can take us into the future and unite this country, not continue to tear us apart.

Anyone see her and her hubby's 1040 tax returns? Did they get published when she ran for Gov. and will they be released pronto by the Rep. comm.

Is there a record of what Sarah Palin has done FOR Alaska in the aftermath of Exxon Valdez? The environmental problems are on-going.... What has she done to help?

GOVERNOR PALIN IS NOT THE EXAMPLE OF AN AMERICAN POLITICIAN I WANT TO REPRESENT OUR COUNTRY. AFTER WATCHING HER LAST NIGHT SHE IS SMUG,SCARCASTIC,AND DISRESPECTFUL. I THINK OUR POLITICIANS ALREADY LOOK LIKE THIS HERE IN AMERICA AND UNFORTUNATELY ALL OVER THE WORLD.
TIME FOR A CHANGE!!!!

Looks like Sarah Palin's previous service to the her community was in some ways similar to Obama's services to his Chicago community "Community Organizer" without the millions Obama helped. How many minorities has she helped.....Hhhhhmmmm maybe 5?

She's just all HYPE! Don't be fooled!....She voted for the Bridge to nowhere...do your research....

Wow, the attackers migrated to this site just to leave nasty, negastive attacks on Ms. Palin?

We've been so impressed with her and less so with the media attacks against her that formed a new group to show the bias against this distiguished woman:

LOL, all the negative comments about what was John McCain thinking picking her, worst pick and etc... That pick just won him the election! LOL and by the way, all the arguments about experience, Lack of experience Barac IS running for Pres, NOT Sarah LOL!!!

I love Sarha Palin. She's the best person John McCain could have chosen to be his running mate. What a stroke of genius. I think Sarah is God's answer to our prayers. We will continue praying for her and for John McCain. The vicious attacks against Sarah in the clearly biased left-wing media have been despicable to say the least. They should be ashamed of themselves. So should Barack Obama for his insulting remarks that were undoubtedly meant for this beautiful courageous woman. God bless you Sarah!

Governor Palin, I have realized, hearing the nonsense from those in government and those who report it, are desperately afraid of you. You have an I.Q, you have presence, your honest, and you tell it like it should be told. Please continue to be all the above and hope to see you as the first female president in four years~!! Hint: I did vote for you and Senator McCain. For me, it was a sad day when Obama took office. Reason: he can't give specifics to his plans, which should have been an indication the kind of President he would be for those who did vote for him. This is the outcome when people do not listen. I hope those have learned their lesson and listen!!!
Sincere appreciation to you!
