Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement responding to a Medicare Board of Trustees Report showing that the Medicare Trust Fund will run out money in 2024 - five years earlier than what was forecasted last year making it even more imperative to reform this entitlement so that it can be solvent moving forward. With healthcare costs surging and our debt spiraling out of control, reforming medicare is an essential step to getting us back on sound financial footing.

"This report underscores the need to reform entitlements NOW. But rather fixing this imminent catastrophe, Democrats and President Obama would rather play the "mediscare" game and push health care rationing," said Congressman Fleming. "I support real reforms to medicare that make it sustainable for the future while not changing benefits for participants over 55 years of age."

Congressman Fleming added, "As a practicing physician for over 30 years, I know firsthand the need for these reforms which is why I stood with Republicans to vote for and pass real medicare reforms that bring us back to financial sanity and put the patient first."

Dr. John Fleming is Chairman of the Natural Resources Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, Oceans and Insular Affairs and is a member of the House Armed Services Committee. He is a physician and small business owner and represents the 4th Congressional District of Louisiana.

John Fleming introduced H.R. 38 to Rescind Funds for Health Care Implementation

Washington, Jan 5 - Today, Representative John Fleming, M.D. introduced H.R. 38, legislation that would rescind $ 1 billion dollars from the Health Insurance Reform Implementation Fund originally appropriated to pay for federal administrative expenses to carry out ObamaCare. “When ObamaCare passed last year, Democrats in Congress and the President raised all sorts of claims that it would lower insurance premiums, increase health care access and lower costs,” said Fleming.

“Contrary to these claims, as this law continues to be implemented, premiums have risen, health insurance options have declined, and Medicare and Medicaid are facing significant physician shortages. ObamaCare needs to be repealed, and we will have a vote on that next week.”

“If the President won’t sign the repeal, which I expect, then the next best thing is to defund this monstrosity. The American people sent a clear message in November that they want nothing to do with ObamaCare,” continued Fleming. “It’s time to stop implementation of this law and choke it off at the roots. H.R. 38 will do just that by defunding the money appropriated to implement ObamaCare and putting it back towards reducing the federal deficit. Passage of my bill will be a crucial first step toward restoring health care liberty for the American people.”
