Today, I’m proud to announce that through hard work and determination we have adopted the Legislative Budget Committee’s 2011 budget for the State of Mississippi. This conservative budget accounts for savings of over $300 Million, which equates to a 5% cut in spending from the previous year.
While our leaders in Washington continue their spending spree, Mississippi has shown that we can work across party lines to adopt conservative spending limits that allow the State of Mississippi to live within its means. Just like families throughout Mississippi, State government needs to use common sense, to set priorities, and to adopt a budget that is based on resources that are available. This is a first step in achieving this goal and I will continue to work with Governor Barbour, Lt. Governor Bryant and the House Leadership to find ways to tighten our belt on state spending and to make state government more efficient.
