Sharron Angle, Reid Ducking Out On Tax Issue Until After Election

Nevada — U.S. Senatorial Candidate Sharron Angle (R-NV) seized upon Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-NV) silence after a story in the Wall Street Journal revealed that Reid was holding out until after the election to make a decision concerning the 2001-03 tax cuts due to expire in January.

A Wall Street Journal news report released over the weekend wrote that “Reid, facing a tough re-election bid, favors waiting for a lame-duck session after Nov. 2,” before taking any action concerning the extension of tax cuts. (WSJ 7-24-10)
“Make no mistake,” Angle said. “Harry Reid is pushing the largest tax increase in American history during the worst economy since the Great Depression. He voted against these tax cuts in 2001 and 2003, and it’s obvious now that he favors letting these important tax cuts die permanently.”

Angle said the 2001-03 tax cuts provided help for both poor and thriving by reducing the marginal rates which provided a wide range of income tax breaks for education, married couples, and families with children. When elected, Angle said she will support making the tax-cuts permanent. “It’s madness to raise taxes during this economic climate on the small business owners who create jobs and stimulate our economy. The bottom line is Harry Reid and President Obama are strangling the economy -- and Nevada has a 14.2 percent unemployment rate to show for it.”

Background Information:

Reid Voted Against Senate And Final Passage Of The 2001 And 2003 Tax Cuts. (H.R. 1836, CQ Vote #170: Adopted 58-33: R 46-2; D 12-31, 5/26/01, Reid Voted Nay; H.R. 1836, CQ Vote #165: Passed 62-38: R 50-0; D 12-38, 5/23/01, Reid Voted Nay; H.R. 2, CQ Vote #196: Adopted 50-50: R 48-3; D 2-46; I 0-1, With Vice President Cheney Casting A “Yea” Vote To Break The Tie, 5/23/03, Reid Voted Nay; H.R. 2, CQ Vote #179: Passed 51-49: R 48-3; D 3-45; I 0-1, 5/15/03, Reid Voted Nay)

Reid Voted To Significantly Reduce The 2001 Tax Cut. “Harkin, D-Iowa, amendment to the Domenici, R-N.M., substitute amendment. The Harkin amendment would reduce the size of the tax cut by $448 billion and would increase education spending by $224 billion over 10 years. It also would provide for an increase of approximately $224 billion for debt reduction over 10 years. The Domenici amendment would cap discretionary spending at $660.7 billion in fiscal 2002 and includes an $845.7 billion contingency fund -- including the Medicare trust fund surplus -- that could be used for debt reduction, tax cuts or unforeseen spending. It also calls for $1.6 trillion in tax cuts over fiscal years 2002-2011 and $60 billion in tax cuts in FY 2001.” (H. Con. Res. 83, CQ Vote #69: Adopted 53-47: R 4-46; D 49-1, 4/4/01, Reid Voted Yea)

Reid Was Critical Of The 2001 Republican Tax Cuts. “More of the federal budget surplus should be spent to fix schools, roads and bridges rather than be ‘squandered’ on tax cuts, U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., told city officials from across the nation Monday.” (Steve Tetreault, “Bush Proposal: Reid Calls Tax Plan Unwise Use,” Las Vegas Review-Journal, 3/13/01)

• Reid: “To take all this money that we have in the way of surpluses and squander it on the tax cut is really the wrong way to go.” (Steve Tetreault, “Bush Proposal: Reid Calls Tax Plan Unwise Use,” Las Vegas Review-Journal, 3/13/01)

In 2003, Reid Continued To Criticize The Tax Cuts. “When they direct their tax programs to benefit the very, very, very few and eliminate the majority from any benefit of these tax cuts, it is class war.” (Kenneth R. Bazinet, “W Tax Plan Too Rich, Dems Say,” Daily News, 1/6/03)

In Nevada, The Republican Tax Cuts Have Given Tax Relief To 1,023,000 People. (“2008 Tax Relief Kit,” U.S. Department Of Treasury, Office Of Tax Policy)

As A Result of the Tax Cuts:

• 276,000 taxpayers in Nevada will have a reduction in their marriage penalty tax.
• 255,000 taxpayers in Nevada will see an increase in their child tax credit.
196,000 taxpayers in Nevada will see a reduction in their capital gains and dividends taxes. (“2008 Tax Relief Kit,” U.S. Department Of Treasury, Office Of Tax Policy) # # #

Sharron Angle TV Ad: Right Here Right Now TEXT VIDEO

"We have a fearful society right now. What they're afraid of is that what we're going to be passing down to our children is not liberty and freedom but debt and deficit," says Angle in the ad, speaking in front of an audience. "That's why you and I have an opportunity right now to change the direction of our country. Government is not the solution to the problem. Government is the problem. We the people are the solution."

President Obama Harry Reid Two Of A Kind VIDEO

You think they're not scared, look at how the left bank media is covering Sharron Angle.

President Obama is in to Las Vegas, Nevada to help rescue the reelection hopes of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. It would be difficult to find two people who have dealt more blows to Nevada’s economy than President Obama and Harry Reid. As two of the most powerful politicians in Washington, this Democratic duo has schemed and forced their liberal agenda onto the people of Nevada, leading to 14% unemployment in the state, the highest in the nation. Nevadans will surely have a lot of questions for a President and Majority Leader who have sold them out in favor of promoting their failed far-left, tax and spend policies. Unfortunately, Harry Reid’s shameless devotion to President Obama’s job-killing agenda and his thirty year record of putting Washington first will do little to assuage their economic woes.

Obama Takes More Time Off from Oil Spill to Clean Up Harry Reid’s Mess VIDEO

Las Vegas -- Thursday and Friday morning President Barack Obama took time away from his busy schedule of playing golf and suing the state of Arizona to fly to Las Vegas and host a swanky fundraiser for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Obama spoke to a packed house of lobbyists and special-interest groups. During the speech, approximately 2,000,000 gallons of oil gushed into the Gulf of Mexico and thousands of workers continued to be displaced.

Jerry Stacy, spokesman for U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle said today, “Why was the President in Nevada at all? Shouldn’t he be more concerned about suing Arizona, a state that's actually trying to do something about immigration, unlike his Administration? Or the clean up of the oil spill in the Gulf that happened because his Mineral Management Agency got too cozy with BP?

Instead he’s flying out from Washington on the taxpayer dime trying to bail out ‘Rubber-Stamp Harry Reid’ and talking down to Nevadans about their economy getting better and what a great job Reid is doing. It’s insulting to the people of Nevada--they know better.”

At the glitzy Las Vegas fundraiser President Obama hosted for Reid, Obama also went so far as to call Angle “extreme.”

“What is truly extreme is Obama and Reid saddling this country with 13 trillion dollars in debt,” said Stacy. “What’s extreme is proposing higher taxes in the midst of the worst economy since the Great Depression. What’s extreme is pushing for more spending when Nevada’s unemployment rate sits at 14 percent.

“It’s appropriate that Obama and Reid would come to Las Vegas to ‘double down’ on their failed policies of higher taxes, more spending, and more regulation. I suppose Nevadans should just be glad President Obama managed to get out of town without insulting Las Vegas or further damaging the tourism industry here.”

“Nevada needs a Senator who will go to Washington and fight for lowering taxes, cutting spending, and letting small businesses keep more of their money so they can create jobs and get Nevada moving again. That’s Sharron Angle,” Stacy concluded.

The Reid/Obama Record:

* Currently, The Unemployment Rate In The U.S. Is 9.5 Percent, Up From 8.2 Percent When The Stimulus Was Passed. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, www.bls.gov, Accessed 7/8/10)

* Since The Stimulus Passed, 2.3 Million Americans Lost Their Job. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, www.bls.gov, Accessed 6/15/10)

* Since The Stimulus Passed, Las Vegas Has Lost Over 39,000 Jobs And The Unemployment Rate Has Risen From 10.3 Percent To 14.1 Percent, The Highest Unemployment Rate For A Major Metropolitan Area. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, www.bls.gov, Accessed 7/8/10)

Newest Poll has Angle Winning GOP Nod, Beating Reid in November

Sharron Angle and FamilyShows Lowden losing to Reid in November

Reno, NV – U.S Senatorial candidate Sharron Angle (R-NV) continues to surge in recent polling while her opponents spiral downward. Angle, seeking the bid to remove Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) from office, came out on top once again in a newly released independent poll that shows Angle beating her GOP opponents and defeating Reid in November.
Today’s Mason-Dixon poll shows Angle with a wide lead going into Tuesday’s election with 32% of the vote, compared with 24% for Danny Tarkanian and 23% for Sue Lowden. The poll also has Angle defeating Reid 44% - 41% in the general election, while Lowden loses to Reid in a matchup.

“Sharron Angle has campaigned successfully throughout the state, introducing herself to voters and talking about the issues that matter to Nevadans,” said Angle spokesperson Jerry Stacy. “Sharron Angle has done what her opponents have failed to do; she has built a broad and diverse coalition of supporters sharing an overall mission which is to replace Harry Reid in November with a principled conservative that Nevadans can trust.”

Angle also toppled her opponents in three other statewide polls released during the week by Public Policy Polling, Research 2000, and Suffolk University. # # #

Tea Party Express Endorses Sharron Angle For U.S. Senate Nevada VIDEO

The Tea Party Express (website: www.TeaPartyExpress.org) is proud to announce its endorsement of former State Assemblywoman Sharron Angle in her campaign for U.S. Senate in the seat currently held by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Angle, a four-term Assemblywoman, is the author of Nevada's Property Tax Reform Initiative, and lost a nail-biter race for Congress in 2006 (losing by less than 1/2%). She has attended 16 tea parties, and raised $1 million in her race for Senate.

"Sharron Angle is a hero for conservatives and the tea party movement. There is no candidate who can match her record of principled conservatism. At a time when politicians of both parties have betrayed the people's trust, Sharron Angle is a rare gem," said Bryan Shroyer, Political Director for the Tea Party Express.

"Her impeccable record in office is consistent with the values of the tea party movement, and her conservative activism since leaving office has earned her the respect and admiration of Nevada Republicans. There is no better candidate for Senate than Angle," said Shroyer.

"Most importantly, Sharron Angle is the strongest candidate to defeat Harry Reid. She offers the clearest contrast to Reid's tax-spend-bailout policies. She does not succumb to the whims of the political establishment or lobbyist, and she is not a creature of the back rooom deal, unlike Harry Reid," Shroyer concluded.

Angle receives boost in last quarter fundraising. Contributors include Citizens United, responsible for last week’s Supreme Court decision

Reno, NV - Sharron Angle (R-NV), a former state legislator who leads over Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) in major independent polling, reported fundraising levels in the fourth-quarter of this year that exceeded her last two quarters combined.
Angle raised $368,941 for the quarter ending December 31, bringing her total raised to $582,941.

Angle, a conservative Republican who served eight years in the Nevada State Legislature, officially announced her run for the United States Senate in late October of 2009, resulting in a boost of donations which included a $5000 contribution from Citizens United.

Citizens United, a nonprofit conservative grassroots organization dedicated to reinstating government back to the control of the citizens, was responsible for the ruling handed down last week by the United States Supreme Court that resulted in the removal of several unconstitutional provisions of the McCain-Feingold act which had imposed undemocratic restraints on the First Amendment. Citizens United filed the suit after being shut down by the Federal Elections Committee as they prepared to release a fact-based documentary that was uncomplimentary of then-Senator Hillary Clinton.

Angle, no stranger to the Supreme Court when it comes to protecting the Constitution, was pleased to have the support of Citizens United, and applauded their victory as an enormous win for the First Amendment. “Our Constitution protects the right of free speech and that includes speech that pertains to political candidates,” said Angle. “McCain-Feingold was an endeavor to apply shackles to the First Amendment, and last week’s Supreme Court decision will remove those shackles and put us back on a path of restoring free speech for all Americans as guaranteed by our United States Constitution.” # # #

Sharron Angle Disgusted by Reid’s Racial Remarks

Sharron Angle Family

Sharron Angle Family Uploaded on June 5, 2009 by Sharron Angle, All rights reserved
Reno, NV - Sharron Angle (R-NV), a conservative former state legislator who leads over Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) by five percentage points in the January 2010 Mason-Dixon poll, released a statement today concerning revealed statements which came to light concerning Reid‟s assessment of President Barack Obama‟s skin color and speech dialect.
“Harry Reid‟s remarks are offensive to all Americans. I am disgusted, though not surprised that Reid thinks like this. The idea that he would strategize a presidential race based on skin color and speech pattern only proves that he is out of touch. Apparently, Reid decides that all Americans are not created equal; deciding one skin color over another color for the basis of being qualified to win or not goes against everything that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. hoped for, that one day his own children would „live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.‟”

Angle‟s statement came on the heels of Reid‟s admission that his private comments were “improper” and a “poor choice of words” when he based Obama‟s ability to win a presidential election by assessing that Obama chances were amplified by the fact that Obama is "light-skinned" and had no "Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."

“Of course he used words that were improper and poorly chosen, but no doubt this is how Reid deliberates when he is behind closed doors, and the only reason he is apologizing is because he got caught,” concluded Angle. “Harry Reid is offensive in the many things he says and does, and it shows in his blatant regard just by the way he leads this country against the people‟s will.” # # #
