“Hello, I’m Senator Olympia Snowe from Maine. In the coming days, the United States Senate will have a long overdue debate and vote on a constitutional amendment to require a balanced federal budget. And let there be no mistake, we have no greater duty than to once and for all obligate the government to live within its means and spend no more than what it takes in.

“I have been a longtime champion of a balanced budget amendment in both the House and Senate to prevent precisely the kind of fiscal quagmire we are enmeshed in today, as our federal government borrows an astounding 40 cents of every dollar we spend.

“The fact is, debts and deficits do matter. We have now entered what some have called an ‘economic danger zone.’ Our outstanding debt, which has now reached $15 trillion, has stunted economic growth, costing millions of American jobs. Just as disturbingly, the government currently pays a staggering $200 billion per year in interest to foreign countries that hold our treasury bonds…countries like China, and Russia. And that number is projected to increase to $1 trillion per year by 2021.

“Indeed, in the three short years since President Obama has taken office, the national debt has increased by nearly $5 trillion. So when the President stated last summer that, ‘We don’t need a constitutional amendment to do our jobs,’ well…not exactly. If Congress were capable of doing its job, it wouldn’t have added nearly $10 trillion to our national debt since 1997, the year a balanced budget amendment failed to pass the Senate by just a single vote. Just imagine where we would be today, if we had accomplished then what we must achieve now.

“So let’s be clear. The impending vote to amend the Constitution represents a choice between changing business as usual in Washington, or embracing the status quo that we can no longer afford. The status quo that has led to an inexcusable 950 straight days without passing a federal budget…the status quo that has brought us the first ever downgrade of America’s sterling triple-A credit rating…and the status quo that was exemplified by the so-called supercommittee’s inability to agree on $1.2 trillion in deficit reduction over the next 10 years.

“Even the automatic cuts resulting from the supercommittee’s failure to reach an agreement could all be undone by this or any future Congress – unless we pass a balanced budget amendment like those already adopted by 49 other states, which will bind each successive Congress in perpetuity.

“Now, I’ve heard all the arguments against this amendment. And we will hear them all again. Some even portray a balanced budget amendment as simply a ‘gimmick’ that isn’t worthy of Congress’ consideration. But I say, if this really were a gimmick, Congress would have passed it a long time ago.

“The bottom line is, the real reason many lawmakers don’t want a balanced budget amendment is the exact reason why it’s so essential. They don’t want their hands tied…they want to continue to spend without restraint. Their way has been to break budgets and amass more and more debt…all the while promising Congress will one day balance the budget. Well, as we sadly know, the promises were empty, the debt is astronomical, and their way hasn’t worked. Now, it’s time for our way.

“For too long, the burden has fallen to supporters of the balanced budget amendment to justify its necessity. Today, at this moment when our debt has exceeded the size of our entire economy, I ask you, the American people, to place the burden squarely where it belongs…on those who would oppose this measure. In typical Washington fashion, they’re hoping you won’t notice this historic vote is occurring. They are banking on you thinking it doesn’t matter.

“Well, with the national debt at $15 trillion and rising, let me suggest there are 15 trillion reasons to prove them wrong. Fifteen trillion reasons to make a stand. Fifteen trillion reasons to contact your Senators and urge them to support our balanced budget amendment…Senate Joint Resolution 10…so that we can finally seize the fiscal reins, and reclaim our future for our children and our grandchildren.

“Thank you for listening, and may God bless America.”

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement today after the Department of Labor released its unemployment report for November 2011:

“Any job creation is welcome news, but the jobless rate in this country is still unacceptable. Today marks the 34th consecutive month of unemployment above eight percent. As you may remember, the Obama administration promised unemployment would stay below eight percent if its ‘stimulus’ was enacted. That promise has gone unfulfilled.

“Because the president’s policies have failed, the House has passed a series of bills designed to remove government barriers to private sector job creation. There are now 25 bipartisan jobs bills passed by the House awaiting a vote in the Senate. The key to getting all of these jobs measures enacted is the United States Senate. President Obama should use this opportunity to call on Senate Democrats to immediately give these bipartisan bills the vote they deserve.

“The American people want action on jobs, and the House is listening to the American people.”

Ron Paul releases online ad that challenges Newt Gingrich on a group of issues dear to conservative voters VIDEO

150-second online ad cross-examines the former Speaker’s record on policy, values and seriousness

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign announced today that it has released and will broadly distribute a 150-second online advertisement that challenges former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on a group of issues dear to conservative voters.

Much of the ad is in the former Speaker’s own voice, and after a few statements by Newt it follows with an image of him sitting on a loveseat beside former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the two chuckling over their agreement concerning as-yet scientifically proven anthropogenic global warming. The ad also features Newt’s knee-jerk assault on Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) modest budget proposal, and the former Speaker’s lobbying ties to government mortgage giants Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae that perpetuated the financial crisis and recession. In addition, the spot showcases discussion of Newt’s lobbying ties to healthcare firms prior to his support of an Obama-Pelosi-Reid individual mandate as part of the recent wildly unpopular healthcare reform, to the absolute horror of nationally-syndicated conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

Taken together, claims made in the ad present conservative voters with a question about Newt, and indeed the ad concludes with this query. And that is “What will you tell me next time?”

The campaign will send the ad to a far-reaching email list of conservative voters nationally, including in key early voting states, and it will purchase banner ads on national and state websites where conservative readers congregate.

“Our campaign is making a bold move to debunk the myth that the Newt we are seeing on the 2012 campaign trail is the conservative he has been touted to be all along. This step we are taking is necessary, as voters are seeking authenticity among conservatives who are able to show a decades-long career of consistently walking the walk of Constitutional principles, limited government, and promoting sound money and economic policy. John Boehner, Republicans stand ready to work with Democrats to extend the payroll tax break and unemployment insurance VIDEO

Washington (Dec 1) At his weekly press conference, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) reiterated that Republicans stand ready to work with Democrats to extend the payroll tax break and unemployment insurance, but reaffirmed that it must be done in a fiscally-responsible way to protect Social Security and avoid compounding the crippling debt problems facing our nation. Speaker Boehner also highlighted House action on three additional jobs bills this week, and urged President Obama to call on Senate Democrats to act on these, and more than 20 other bipartisan, House-passed jobs bills awaiting action.

BOEHNER: REPUBLICANS READY TO WORK WITH THE PRESIDENT TO FIND COMMON GROUND ON JOBS, PAYROLL TAX BREAK EXTENSION:

“Republicans told the president back in September that we are ready to work with him to find common ground on jobs, including an extension of the payroll tax cut and extending unemployment insurance. And that offer still stands. The key question is: how do we pay for it?

“When the president used a joint session of Congress in September to announce his plan, he promised the American people that every penny would be paid for – including the extension of the payroll tax break. And Democrats in Congress have also conceded that it should be paid for.”

BOEHNER: PAYROLL TAX BREAK MUST BE PAID FOR TO PROTECT SOCIAL SECURITY:

“It’s important that the payroll tax cut be paid for because that money is used to fund the Social Security Trust Fund, which is already facing imminent bankruptcy. Unlike other taxes, the payroll tax is used to fund Social Security. As such, the revenues that the payroll tax generates are already dedicated to a specific purpose. Revenue collected via the payroll tax finances benefits for current and future retirees. And any drop in revenue resulting from a temporary reduction in the payroll tax that is not paid for will harm the Social Security Trust Fund and accelerate the program’s looming bankruptcy.

“So Republicans agree that we need to focus on jobs, but we need to do it in a way that doesn’t harm Social Security or add more to the country’s already large deficit. Americans know we can’t get our economy moving and create jobs without dealing with Washington’s out-of-control spending. Republicans are ready to work with the President and the Democrats to extend the payroll tax cut and unemployment insurance temporarily, but they must be offset with spending cuts elsewhere.”

BOEHNER: HOUSE HAS PASSED MORE THAN 20 JOBS BILLS THAT ARE STUCK IN THE DEMOCRATIC-CONTROLLED SENATE:

“This week, Republicans are taking several more steps in order to help create jobs and boost our economy. The House will pass three additional jobs bills to help create a better environment for private-sector job creation. This is in addition to the 20 bills that we already have sitting over in the United States Senate. Our plan to help America’s job creators – we’ve got some of these enacted into law through both chambers, but there’s 20 bills sitting over in the United States Senate.”

BOEHNER: PRESIDENT OBAMA SHOULD CALL ON SENATE DEMOCRATS TO VOTE ON BIPARTISAN, HOUSE-PASSED JOBS BILLS:

“And I would urge the president to call on the Senate to allow votes on these bipartisan bills, and ensure that they receive a fair vote in the Senate. So we hope the president will put his partisan politics aside and urge the Senate to move these bipartisan bills as quickly as possible.”

Governor Chris Christie: I believe that the Occupy movement and the Tea Party movement come -- their genesis -- is from the same feeling, which is an anger that government can’t get things done. And so, now, that is the last similarity between the Tea Party movement and the Occupy movement. But I believe that the cause for their anger comes from the same place. They look at Washington D.C. and they look at a president who is a bystander in the Oval Office. You know, I was angry this weekend, listening to the spin coming out of the administration about the failure of the Supercommittee. And that the President knew that it was doomed for failure so he didn’t get involved.

Well then what the hell are we paying you for? It’s doomed for failure so I’m not getting involved? Well, what have you been doing exactly? I mean, I will tell you that I think both parties deserve blame for what’s going on in Washington D.C., both parties do. They’re spending more time talking at each other than talking with each other. We all know what the solutions to these problems are, we’ve done them in New Jersey in many areas, but we don’t have the political will to get them done. And in New Jersey, the reason why they got things done is because I called people into a room and said we’re going to solve this problem and I had people of good will on the other side who said they believed it was their obligation, regardless of party, to get done things like pension and benefit reform.

That Mayor Redd can tell you personally how it’s helping her and her budget situation in Camden. Why the President of the United States refuses to do this is astonishing to me. I mean, you know, if he wanted to run for Senate again and just be 1 of 100, I’m sure he could have gotten reelected over and over again in Illinois. When you’re president, it’s kind of what I was talking about before, you know 41, 21 and 1, well he’s the one in Washington. And he’s got to get something done here. And it’s not good enough just to say well, I’ll get it done after the election.

Ron Paul Remains Top-Tier in Latest Iowa Poll, Strong second, leads field in Independent vote

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – A NewsMax / Insider Advantage poll released yesterday shows 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul in second place in the state of Iowa, solidifying his position at the top of the field and remaining a serious threat to take the Iowa Caucuses in January. Paul won 13 percent of likely caucus-goers in the poll and an impressive 30 percent of independent voters, leading the rest of the field. In addition, Paul won 47 percent of voters between 18 and 29 years old.

AMHERST, N.H. – Texas Gov. Rick Perry today received the endorsement of Sheriff Joe Arpaio, a steadfast advocate for border security and national leader in combating illegal immigration, citing Gov. Perry’s unmatched efforts to bolster border security in Texas in light of a federal government that for too long has abdicated this basic responsibility to the states. Sheriff Arpaio made his announcement at Joey’s Diner in Amherst, New Hampshire.

“The federal government has failed on border crime and border enforcement, and no candidate for president has done more to secure the border than Governor Rick Perry. I have been watching Governor Perry and Texas closely and know his border surge operations with state, local and federal law enforcement officials have helped shut down the illegal trafficking of weapons, drugs and people,” said Sheriff Arpaio. “I’m endorsing Rick Perry because we need a tough-on-crime president who will champion and fund full-time border security operations from Brownsville to San Diego. Governor Perry has a superior border security record and plan to make our border and our nation safer.”

As governor of Texas, Rick Perry has diligently worked to fill the gap left by Washington’s abject failure to secure the nation’s southern border with Mexico, and supported and passed measures to combat illegal immigration.

He has directed more than $400 million since 2005 to provide law enforcement the tools they need to combat border-related crime. The governor’s initiatives have put more boots on the ground, including Texas Rangers and National Guard units, and improved technology to help law enforcement detect and deter criminal activity on the border. In January 2009, Gov. Perry asked President Obama to authorize 1,000 additional National Guard troops and six helicopters to assist the state in doing Washington’s job, but he has refused.

“Sheriff Arpaio knows the struggle border states face as Washington politicians and bureaucrats fail time and again to properly secure our nation’s southern boundary with Mexico,” said Gov. Perry. “I am honored to have Sheriff Arpaio’s support for my presidential campaign and our shared goals of fighting border crime with more personnel, border fencing and surveillance. A secure border is vital to protecting America’s national security, public safety and jobs. As president, I will secure the border within a year putting thousands more federal boots on the ground, strategic fencing and aerial resources to fight border crime and make our states and nation safer.”

Gov. Perry’s border security initiatives have resulted in the seizure of 6.8 million pounds of marijuana; 82,353 pounds of cocaine; 1,835 pounds of heroin; and 7,552 pounds of methamphetamine which has an estimated value of more than $6.5 billion. In addition, officers have seized $227 million in currency and more than 3,500 illegal weapons.

Additionally, to combat illegal immigration, Gov. Perry:

Championed a Voter ID law that ensures only American citizens will be able to vote in elections;

Signed into law a requirement that only citizens and legal residents may obtain a driver license;

Declared legislation outlawing “sanctuary cities” an emergency item in Texas, and added it to the call of the special session;

Fought for tougher penalties for those who engage in human trafficking;

Signed a law that requires counties to assist the state in tracking the number of illegal immigrants in Texas county jails;

Passed an omnibus gang bill providing even more tools for law enforcement to be able to infiltrate and break up the transnational gangs; and

Protected a Texas law that prevents any public agency, taxing jurisdiction or economic development corporation from receiving public subsidies if they have been found to have hired undocumented workers.

Also known as “America’s Toughest Sheriff,” Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been elected five times as Maricopa County Sheriff in Arizona, serving in the post for 20 years, and is respected for his successful efforts to fight crime, combat illegal immigration and raise awareness of the federal government’s ongoing failure to secure the border. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953, and as a police officer in Washington, D.C. and Las Vegas for five years. He then joined the Bureau of Narcotics, eventually renamed the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) where he became one of the very first federal agents sent overseas to help dismantle the international heroin conspiracy operating in Turkey and throughout the Middle East. Sheriff Arpaio was a regional director for the DEA for Mexico and South America and was head of the DEA for Texas and Arizona.

Dear President Obama,

Welcome to New Hampshire.I hope you enjoy your visit. In 49 days, voters here will be going to the polls to choose a Republican nominee to run against you. I would like to lay out for you some of what I will be saying on the campaign trail if I am fortunate enough to become my party’s candidate.

I would begin by acknowledging that you were dealt a hard hand. You came into office in the midst of an economic crisis that was not of your making. You were asked to face great challenges and to solve difficult problems. The tasks before you would have taxed the abilities of any new president.

But we now have had three years to watch your policies unfold and to assess their results. The evidence is in and it is unequivocal. I will be blunt. Your policies have failed. It is bad enough that they have fallen short even by the standards your own administration set for itself. But things are much worse than that. Far from bringing the crisis to an end, your policies have actively hindered economic recovery. In some cases, they were the exact opposite of what our government should have been doing.

You and your advisors sold your economic “stimulus” package to Congress on the basis of a forecast that it would hold unemployment below 8 percent. There is a reason why this projection was wildly off base and that unemployment soared above 10 percent and is now stuck around 9 percent. Your stimulus bill was filled with special interest giveaways, and eased the way for your administration to
shovel loan guarantees out the door to politically connected “green” technology firms, some of which are now in bankruptcy, with the taxpayers on the hook for more than $500 million.

Even where crony capitalism did not get in the way, so many projects were far from “shovel ready” or had absolutely nothing to do with creating jobs. Nearly a trillion dollars of tax dollars was spent, our budget deficit exploded, and some 25million Americans remain either unemployed, underemployed, or have given up seeking work altogether. You placed a burden of debt on America that will takegenerations to repay and we got almost nothing in return.

You also failed to grasp the impact of your policies on the American businessclimate. Investment depends upon a degree of certainty, but your administration made it impossible for enterprises to make accurate forecasts about their future costs. If companies have stopped hiring in America, it is in no small part becauseof policies, including Obamacare, Dodd-Frank, and an astonishing tangle of new federal regulations that have snuffed out investment. If we are ever to get America back to work, they all must be repealed.

I will also be talking about how you have catered to favored special interests, like civil-service unions and environmentalists, at the expense of American workers.Take your decision to “delay” building the state-of-the-art Keystone XL oil pipeline. Some 20,000 American jobs are at stake. You may not regard that as a large number, but every one of the unemployed men and women whose future you have sacrificed to satisfy your political base in the environmentalist left deserve farbetter. And this is but one of many examples I can cite.

America deserves better.

It is not America’s laziness that is the problem, as you recently suggested. It is your policies.

So once again, Mr. President, welcome to New Hampshire. We need a great debate about how best to get our country working again. We can’t afford four more years of failure. I believe in unleashing America’s potential. That is what my own campaign for the presidency is all about.

WASHINGTON– Today, the Co-Chairs of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, Representative Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) and Senator Patty Murray, released the following statement.

"After months of hard work and intense deliberations, we have come to the conclusion today that it will not be possible to make any bipartisan agreement available to the public before the committee’s deadline.

"Despite our inability to bridge the committee's significant differences, we end this process united in our belief that the nation's fiscal crisis must be addressed and that we cannot leave it for the next generation to solve. We remain hopeful that Congress can build on this committee’s work and can find a way to tackle this issue in a way that works for the American people and our economy.

"We are deeply disappointed that we have been unable to come to a bipartisan deficit reduction agreement, but as we approach the uniquely American holiday of Thanksgiving, we want to express our appreciation to every member of this committee, each of whom came into the process committed to achieving a solution that has eluded many groups before us. Newt Gingrich Was Right On The 'Super Committee' VIDEO TEXT

In the summer of 2011, the Washington establishment pinned its hopes on a so-called 'Super Committee' of 12 Congressmen and Senators to solve America's deficit and spending problems. The Committee was established with a law that imposed mandatory cuts to defense and other programs as a threat to force action.

At the time, Newt Gingrich was alone in calling this "Super Committee" what it was: "a truly dumb idea." Today, Newt 2012 released a new web video, with clips from the August 11th presidential debate in Iowa, where Newt was the leading critic of the "Super Committee" and predicted its failure.

We need a president with the experience of balancing the federal budget and reforming government if we are going to get our fiscal house in order. That's Newt.

House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) issued the following statement following a joint press conference where he announced he will pursue Right to Work legislation this session to bring more economic development opportunity for Hoosiers:

STATEHOUSE—"Today marks the beginning of the freedom campaign for Hoosier workers. While we are the envy of the Midwest in our job creation efforts, economic development experts tell us that removing the last barriers to job creation in our state will help the quarter of a million unemployed Hoosiers get back to work. That is why my top priority this session is to make Indiana the 23rd Right to Work state in the nation.

"Right to Work isn't about Unions - it is about freedom and economic opportunity. It is about giving all Hoosiers the freedom to choose a job, decide how their hard earned money is spent and bring more employment opportunities to Indiana.
