NEW YORK, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2004 Republican National Convention today announced the selection of more than 155 youth from across the nation to serve in the Page Program at this year's convention in New York City. The four-day event, the party's first-ever convention in New York City, will take place at Madison Square Garden from August 30 through September 2, 2004.
"The Page Program is part of the convention's comprehensive plan to energize the Republican Party's young leaders and equip them with the tools to carry out grassroots efforts on behalf of President Bush," said Bill Harris, CEO of the 2004 Republican National Convention. "We look forward to having these young men and women here and greatly appreciate their efforts to serve the convention in this capacity."

The Page Program, an official part of the convention for over one hundred years, provides young adults with a positive educational experience, while fostering a new generation of Republican activists through political participation and service. Pages are selected in a highly rigorous and competitive process that involves local Republican officials and national committee members of the Republican National Committee. As general convention support staff, Pages serve as a vital energizing component of convention floor demonstrations and rallies during convention sessions. They also are charged with the distribution of official convention materials and assisting the whip operations team with necessary tasks.

Responding to President Bush's Call to Service, pages will volunteer at a service project in New Jersey as part of the convention's community service initiative, Compassion Across America. They will also visit various cultural centers like the New York Stock Exchange and the Harvard Institute of Politics Lecture Series. Pages will participate in their own mock proceedings at the Youth Convention. The Youth Convention, to be held on Wednesday, September 1, is an exciting opportunity that will allow pages to access the convention floor and interact with campaign leaders, media personalities, youth representatives and national Republican leaders.

The Republican National Convention will be held in New York City at Madison Square Garden from August 30 - September 2, 2004. For more information about the 2004 Republican National Convention, please visit
