President Bush to nominate Anne W. Patterson

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate one individual to serve in his Administration:

The President intends to nominate Anne W. Patterson, of Virginia, to be Assistant Secretary of State (International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs). Ambassador Patterson currently serves as Deputy Representative of the United States of America to the United Nations, to the Security Council of the United Nations, and to the Sessions of the General Assembly of the United Nations. She also served as Acting Permanent U.S. Representative to the United Nations from January until August of 2005. Ms. Patterson previously served as Deputy Inspector General at the Department of State. Prior to that, she was Ambassador to Colombia and to El Salvador. A member of the Senior Foreign Service, Ms. Patterson has served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Interamerican Affairs and as Office Director for the Andes. She was also political counselor to the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in Geneva and as economic officer and counselor in Saudi Arabia. Ms. Patterson received her bachelor's degree from Wellesley College.
