Government of Zimbabwe Denies Entry to Coalition of Black Trade Unionists
We condemn the Government of Zimbabwe’s decision today, September 22, to deny entry to a delegation from the United States Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU).
The CBTU delegation was denied entry at the last moment by Zimbabwe, which claimed that the visit was "unacceptable," despite the fact that the delegation had the proper visas and was scheduled to meet with government officials as well as non-governmental organizations.
The Zimbabwe Government’s decision comes after the brutal suppression of a planned peaceful demonstration by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU). This is yet another example of the Zimbabwean government’s failure to allow freedom of expression and ideas.
