The Republican National Convention began in St. Paul, MN with a shortened session. First Lady Laura Bush introduced a video about Hurricane Gustav relief efforts, with statements by governors of four Gulf Coast states. She and Cindy McCain encouraged delegates to support recovery efforts.

About the Republican National Convention - The 2008 Republican National Convention will be held at Saint Paul's Xcel Energy Center from Sept. 1-4, 2008. Approximately 45,000 delegates, alternate delegates, volunteers, members of the media and other guests are expected to attend the convention. Minneapolis-Saint Paul is expected to receive an estimated $150-$160 million positive economic boost from the four-day event. Youth Radio's National Network team has been in Minneapolis-Saint Paul coveringthe Republican National Convention this week. Last week they were in Denver
covering the 2008 Democratic National Convention. The team is made of young reporters and producers from around the country including Appalshop in Whitesburg, Kentucky, Radio Arte in Chicago, YR Oakland, YR DC, YR LA and YR
