Rob Simmons Statement on Health Care Vote

Rob Simmons(MYSTIC) - Rob Simmons, candidate for US Senate, made the following statement in reaction to Senate Democrats' vote for cloture on health care legislation:

"In the dead of night, after cutting back-room deals and buying votes with pork-barrel projects, Senator Dodd and the rest of the Democratic caucus voted for cloture on a more than 2,000-page, nearly one trillion dollar government takeover of health care.
Rather than following the will of the American people who want serious cost containment, this bill increases taxes, will increase premiums, cuts Medicare to the tune of $500 billion and passes a massive new Medicaid liability onto already cash-strapped states."

"Congress should scrap the bill before it altogether and focus on real health care reform that begins with controlling costs and increasing competition. We should be reducing frivolous lawsuits that fuel the wasteful practice of defensive medicine, allowing small businesses to pool and negotiate better insurance rates, removing the barriers that prevent insurance competition across state lines and giving individuals a tax deduction on their health care premiums."
