Castle uses his experience as a former Governor, Lt. Governor and Delaware state legislator in Washington, D.C. to bring members of both parties together to enact laws that help all Americans. Mike Castle has played a key role in writing and enacting legislation in every term he has served in the U.S. House of Representatives, including: Vocational Education, Intelligence Reform, Child Nutrition, No Child Left Behind, Campaign Finance Reform, Balanced Budget Act, Welfare Reform, Line Item Veto, Assault Weapons Bill and the Brady Bill.

Castle is consistently ranked as one of the most independent Member of Congress by non-partisan publications that cover Congress, such as Congressional Quarterly and National Journal. Castle exerts his independence as the leader of the Moderate Republicans, through his leadership of the Republican Main Street Partnership, the largest centrist organization in the nation.
