Washington (Sep 16) At his weekly press briefing, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) called on Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to pledge to the American people that she’ll allow an honest up-or-down vote before Congress adjourns this fall on legislation to stop all of the coming tax hikes. Boehner’s remarks come as a growing chorus of Democrats, including Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and at least 31 others – according to the
Associated Press – agree with Republicans that raising taxes on anyone, especially small businesses, is the wrong thing to do in a struggling economy. Boehner also highlighted the GOP’s
two-point plan to cut spending back to 2008 levels and stop the tax hikes, and slammed the White House for offering a “
pre-election shopping list” of more job-killing spending.
