Senator Marco Rubio to Deliver Republican Address to the Nation on February 12
Washington, D.C. – House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced today that they have selected U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) to deliver the Republican Address to the Nation following the President’s State of the Union address on February 12, 2013. Sen. Rubio, now in his third year in the U.S. Senate, has been a champion of growing the American middle class through limited government and free enterprise policies, making him a natural choice to outline why the Republican vision can help Americans rise above their current circumstances in the Obama economy.
The address will be delivered in both English and Spanish.
During his first two years in office, Sen. Rubio has been a strong advocate of conservative principles:
He has consistently opposed job-destroying tax increases and spending proposals that fail to stop Washington’s runaway spending.
“Marco Rubio embodies the optimism that lies at the heart of the Republican vision for America. On Tuesday, he will contrast the Republican approach to the challenges we face with President Obama’s vision of an ever-bigger government and the higher taxes that would be needed to pay for it,” said Senator McConnell. “Marco’s own experience as the child of immigrants has always informed his belief in limited government and free enterprise, which is why he has helped lead the fight against out-of-control spending and job-destroying tax hikes that continue to hold our economy back and stifle opportunity for millions. He was a natural choice to deliver the Republicans’ alternative to the administration’s reliance on government and debt.”
“I’m honored to have this opportunity to discuss how limited government and free enterprise have helped make my family’s dreams come true in America,” said Senator Rubio. “Limited government and free enterprise are the very foundation of what makes America special and separates us from the world, particularly through our strong middle class. I look forward to laying out the Republican case of how our ideas can help people close the gap between their dreams and the opportunities to realize them.”
In his U.S. Senate campaign in 2010, Marco Rubio prevailed on a pledge to stand up to Washington’s reckless spending and its assault on the free enterprise system. Today, Rubio proudly represents Florida in the U.S. Senate where he’s working to fulfill his promise to restore fiscal discipline and give job creators more certainty and confidence to open new businesses or expand existing ones. Rubio and his wife, Jeanette, have four young children and live in West Miami. More information on Senator Rubio can be found here.
