Mike Huckabee endorses John Hoeven

John Hoeven for Senate by Mike Huckabee

I am pleased to endorse my good friend John Hoeven for the United States Senate from North Dakota. John is presently the Governor of North Dakota, having been first elected in 2000, and re-elected in 2004 and 2008.
We need John’s strong conservative voice on the national scene at this critical time in our nation’s history. That is why I am pleased that John has decided to run for the United States Senate. Our national debt continues to skyrocket and we are facing a government takeover of our health care system.

I know that John will be an effective conservative fighting against the liberal attempts to increase the size of government, take more control of our everyday lives, and their out of control spending. I have long admired John as Governor of North Dakota.

John is a native of North Dakota and was a businessman in the state before being elected Governor. John is widely believed to be one of the most popular Governors in the country and with good reason. He has focused on government fiscal responsibility, and for that reason North Dakota is one of the few states in sound financial condition.

The conservative principles that define John are strong and undisputed. He is Pro-life and supports traditional marriage, believing that marriage is defined as being between one man and one woman. He also is a strong supporter of second amendment rights. John believes that health care should remain a private matter, between the patient and their doctor, and that the federal government has no business taking over the nation’s health care system.

I am proud to endorse John for the United States Senate from North Dakota, and urge each of you to help this strong conservative win election and start the work of getting our country back on track.

Scott Brown Launches New Television Ad: "Momentum"

The campaign of Scott Brown for U.S. Senate today released a new television ad entitled "Momentum." The ad highlights the positive response Brown has been receiving from independent-minded Massachusetts voters on the campaign trail.

In a debate on Monday night, Brown drew praise when he reminded his opponent that "With all due respect, it is not the Kennedys' seat, and it's not the Democrats' seat, it's the people's seat."

In his latest ad, Brown spends a day campaigning in South Boston, where he receives encouragement and support from the people who will go to the polls on January 19th and decide who will represent them in the U.S. Senate. With five days left in this campaign, it is clear that Scott Brown is carrying the momentum going into Election Day. ###

RNC RELEASES NEW WEB VIDEO “RUNNING SCARED”

WASHINGTON – The Republican National Committee announced a new web video today on President Obama’s, Harry Reid’s, and Nancy Pelosi’s liberal government-run agenda, which has caused major Democrat leaders to decide not to seek reelection in 2010. The web video, entitled “Running Scared,” can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvzcxy3nK-I.

“For close to a year, President Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi have been hatching their government-run experiments from the closed-door power monopoly of Capitol Hill with absolutely no regard for the concerns of the American public. Using the economic crisis as a means to their liberal ends, they started with their failed $787 billion stimulus package, moved on to their job killing ‘cap and trade’ scheme, and are now working hard to finish their government takeover of our health care system. But this unprecedented power grab is not only hurting President Obama’s and Congressional Democrat’s approval ratings – it’s also causing major Democrat leaders to decide not run for office in 2010. Instead of facing the very voters they have been ignoring for the last year and defending the policies they have supported from day one, they would rather tuck their tails and run. All conservative and independent minded Americans should see these announcements as a clear rallying call and that the possibility for major Republican victories across all levels of government is growing larger with every passing day.” – RNC Chairman Michael Steele

STATEMENT FROM RNC CHAIRMAN MICHAEL STEELE ON PRESIDENT OBAMA BANK FEE

Chairman Michael SteeleWASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele released the following statement today:

“President Obama’s plans to institute a ‘financial crisis responsibility fee’ to recoup the bailout funds from major banks is nothing more than another tax on the American public.
The fact is this money has already been paid back by the banks and this punitive tax will hurt Americans’ savings and discourage job creation at the worse of economic times. However, it will fatten the wallets of Democrats on Capitol Hill by $90 billion over the next ten years. President Obama and Congressional Democrats are taxing banks for the same reason Willie Sutton robbed them – because that’s where the money is, and they desperately need these funds to finance their runaway binge spending for their liberal agenda.”

Gilbert Baker Calls for Federal Balanced Budget Amendment and Term Limits

Baker: “If the Obama - Reid – Lincoln government were a corporation it would be bankrupt.”

Uploaded on December 8, 2009, by Baker for US Senate. © All rights reserved.
Little Rock, Ark. – United States Senate Candidate Sen. Gilbert Baker announced today that the time is now to put an end to runaway Washington spending, and a Federal Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA) is the mechanism to make that happen. Sen. Baker also outlined his support for congressional term limits, in order to cultivate citizen legislators, not career politicians.
He made the announcement during a news conference at the Republican Party of Arkansas Rockefeller Republican Center in Little Rock.

“Every family and business owner in Arkansas knows when you spend more than you make, it leads to financial disaster,” Sen. Baker said. “My wife Susan and I balance our household budget, the state of Arkansas has a balanced budget, our federal government should be no different. As Arkansas’ next United States Senator, I will introduce legislation to amend our Constitution to mandate a balanced federal budget.”

If passed, the BBA would prohibit the federal government from spending more money than it collects each year.

“Congress had demonstrated an unwillingness to balance the federal budget. A constitutional amendment is necessary to reign in out-of-control spending. The best way to be a check and balance on Barack Obama’s agenda is through a balanced budget.”

Sen. Baker outlined his plan on day two of legislative budget hearings in preparation for the first fiscal session of the Arkansas General Assembly. His announcement comes with the endorsement of four previous minority leaders in the Arkansas General Assembly: Former Rep. Marvin Parks, Sen. Johnny Key, Sen. Michael Lamoureux, and Rep. Brian King.

- 2 -

“I’ve seen Sen. Baker make the tough decisions needed to balance our state budget,” said Rep. King. “Unlike Blanche Lincoln, he will not vote to raise the debt ceiling, he will not be influenced by unions and leadership, and he will not spend money we don’t have.”

“As Chairman of the Joint Budget Committee, we set priorities and make cuts where needed to balance the budget in Arkansas. Difficult decisions are necessary for our state government to live within its means; Americans deserve the same from their federal government,” Sen. Baker said.

The national debt is the total amount of money owed by the government; the federal budget deficit is the yearly amount by which spending exceeds revenue.

Here are the numbers:

* The national debt now exceeds $12 trillion dollars, or $40,000 per person
* The national deficit stands at $1.4 trillion, or $3,500 per person.

“Our national deficit has quadrupled since President Obama took office,” Baker said. “If the Obama- Reid – Lincoln government were a corporation, it would be bankrupt.

We cannot continue the current out-of-control spending that has been going on in Washington.

A balanced budget amendment is the best way to break the cycle of deficit spending and ensure that the government does not continue to burden future generations with our current debt,” Sen. Baker said.

In addition, Sen. Baker supports language allowing for emergency spending when our nation is faced with an imminent threat. In such cases, a 3/5ths approval of both Houses of Congress would be required for the federal government to spend more in a fiscal year than it receives. He also supports a requirement for 3/5ths vote for tax increases and provisions to restrict the growth rate.

“It’s time to restore fiscal discipline in Washington and require Congress to live under the same budget constraints as all Americans.

“As President Reagan said in his 1985 State of the Union Address, ‘America’s financial success is freedom’s success,’” Sen. Baker said. “I believe a Federal Balanced Budget will ensure our children and grandchildren inherit freedom and security, not a crippling national debt”

Amendments to the U.S. Constitution must be approved by two-thirds of those present and voting in both the House and Senate and three-fourths (38) of the 50 state legislatures. The Balanced Budget Amendment passed the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996 and came within one vote of passage in the U.S. Senate in 1997.

- 3 -

In an effort to ensure Congress is more accountable to the people, Sen. Baker would also support Congressional term limits. He believes U.S. Senators should be limited to 12 years, which is two six-year terms.

“I believe serving in Congress is an honor, not a career,” Sen. Baker said. “I will serve my time in the U.S. Senate and come back to Arkansas and get a job.”

“Limiting political terms would create positive, fundamental change in American politics,” Baker said.

Scott Brown's response to Martha Coakley attack ad VIDEO

U.S. Senate candidate Scott Brown today released a new television ad in response to Martha Coakley's decision to air negative and misleading attack ads against him.

In the ad, Brown says the ads are wrong and attempt to tear him down instead of discussing critical issues such as health care and jobs.

Brown says the ad is a product of a political machine and its candidate and that he is running the name of every independent thinking voter.

State Police Association of Massachusetts and Commissioned Officers Endorse Scott Brown

Scott Brown Phone Bank

Uploaded on December 6, 2009 by State Senator Scott Brown All rights reserved
The State Police Association of Massachusetts today endorsed Scott Brown’s bid for U.S. Senate, citing his determination to keep America safe by treating terrorists as enemy combatants and not as ordinary criminals.

Brown also received the support of the Commissioned Officers Association of the Massachusetts State Police, a body that represents state troopers at the rank of lieutenant and above.
“The terrorist threat in this country is real and Scott Brown will always come down on the side of protecting our nation,” said Richard Brown, president of the State Police Association of Massachusetts. “I’ve known him for years, he’s my state senator, and he’s someone we’ve always been able to trust on the issues that deal with keeping residents safe – especially during times of uncertainty in our country.”

Brown, a lieutenant colonel in the Army National Guard, sharply disagrees with his opponent Martha Coakley on national security policy and the treatment of terrorists. Brown believes that terrorists should be treated as enemy combatants and interrogated and prosecuted pursuant to military law.

Martha Coakley would grant terrorists constitutional rights, give them taxpayer-funded lawyers, and allow them to defend themselves in American courtrooms.

“Our laws are meant to protect this nation, not our enemies. In such an unpredictable and unstable period, I will never compromise on our nation’s security,” said Brown. “State troopers are out on the front lines every day, working to keep us safe from a wide range of threats that are constantly evolving. I am honored to have this endorsement.” ###

Sharron Angle Disgusted by Reid’s Racial Remarks

Sharron Angle Family

Sharron Angle Family Uploaded on June 5, 2009 by Sharron Angle, All rights reserved
Reno, NV - Sharron Angle (R-NV), a conservative former state legislator who leads over Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) by five percentage points in the January 2010 Mason-Dixon poll, released a statement today concerning revealed statements which came to light concerning Reid‟s assessment of President Barack Obama‟s skin color and speech dialect.
“Harry Reid‟s remarks are offensive to all Americans. I am disgusted, though not surprised that Reid thinks like this. The idea that he would strategize a presidential race based on skin color and speech pattern only proves that he is out of touch. Apparently, Reid decides that all Americans are not created equal; deciding one skin color over another color for the basis of being qualified to win or not goes against everything that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. hoped for, that one day his own children would „live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.‟”

Angle‟s statement came on the heels of Reid‟s admission that his private comments were “improper” and a “poor choice of words” when he based Obama‟s ability to win a presidential election by assessing that Obama chances were amplified by the fact that Obama is "light-skinned" and had no "Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."

“Of course he used words that were improper and poorly chosen, but no doubt this is how Reid deliberates when he is behind closed doors, and the only reason he is apologizing is because he got caught,” concluded Angle. “Harry Reid is offensive in the many things he says and does, and it shows in his blatant regard just by the way he leads this country against the people‟s will.” # # #

Just When You Thought Harry Reid Couldn’t Get Any Worse…

We have blatant bribery to buy votes, secret closed-door negotiations in the reconciliation of the House and Senate versions of the proposed health care bill,
and an invitation-only health care forum in Las Vegas that excluded free speech and open debate. (Were you invited? I wasn’t.)

Harry Reid may have cared, at one point in his career, about Nevada and about freedom of speech and representative government, but he clearly now has cast that aside to maintain power in the Senate.

Harry Reid has 13 million dollars in his campaign account, which he intends to use to maintain his power. He thinks he can buy your vote as other politicians have attempted to do in the past, as wealthy elitists often do. Nevadans know the difference between an election and an auction. Let me be the first to call on Harry Reid to join his North Dakota and Connecticut colleagues and decline to run for reelection.

Sue Lowden response regarding Harry Reid’s decision to stay in Senate race after racially insensitive comments VIDEO

(Las Vegas, NV) – Today, Nevada businesswoman and former State Senator Sue Lowden issued the following statement after a spokesman for Harry Reid stated that the Senator is certain to stay in the race for re-election. The Reid spokesperson was quoted as saying, “These are difficult times for Nevada and as majority leader he is in a position to help Nevada address those challenges, as we have already seen.”

Lowden’s statement:

“Nevadans do not need any more of Harry Reid’s ‘help’ during these difficult times. Harry Reid uses his power for himself and his Washington liberal interests. Radical, left-wing interest groups have overlooked Reid’s pattern of insensitive remarks because they need him to do their bidding, rather than serve the interest of Nevadans.

“His ‘help’ for Nevada has bankrupted our state and made a bad recession worse. Harry Reid is raising our taxes during the worst recession we’ve faced in a generation. He is saddling our nation with trillions of dollars of debt. He is using the tax dollars of hardworking Nevadans to bribe fellow senators on unpopular, unaffordable legislation in the Senate.

“Harry Reid is running as the most powerful politician Nevada has ever had, yet under his failed leadership, Nevadans face the highest home foreclosure rate in the country. We face the second-highest unemployment rate in the nation. We continue to face record business and personal bankruptcies in Nevada. And now, Reid is trying to strip us of our private health care decisions and hand them over to Washington bureaucrats.

“Harry Reid has spent the last year helping bail out financial institutions, big insurance companies, and sitting on his hands while the President was steering convention business away from Las Vegas. What has he really done for Nevada aside from making matters worse? Nothing.

“Voters tell me everyday that they have had enough and that they can no longer afford more ‘help’ from Senator Reid. Not only do I agree with them, but I will ensure that when I’m in Washington, ‘help’ means always putting Nevada first.”

Sue Lowden appeared this morning on Fox News Channel to discuss the campaign, Harry Reid’s recent comments on President Obama’s race, as well as the current state of Nevada’s economy under Senator Reid’s failed leadership.

Scott Brown Statement On Appointed U.S. Senator Kirk's Intention's To Be 60th Vote on Health Care

Scott Brown is a Lt. Colonel of the Army National Guard

Uploaded on December 14, 2009, by State Senator Scott Brown. All rights reserved.

Scott Brown is a Lt. Colonel of the Army National Guard. Use of his military rank, title and photograph in uniform does not imply endorsement by the Department of the Army or the Department of Defense.
Good afternoon – I wanted to make sure you saw the following comments earlier today, as reported by State House News Service, from Governor Patrick’s appointed U.S. Senator Paul Kirk, in which he clearly states that he intends to be the 60th vote for the Democrats’ health care bill – even if Scott Brown is elected to the Senate seat by the people of Massachusetts on January 19, 2010.

According to this report:

Speaking with reporters, Kirk also predicted that Congress would approve a national health care bill by the end of the month – in time for the president’s State of the Union address – and said he would vote for it even if Massachusetts voters elect Brown. Brown has said he’d be the 41st vote against the health bill, which would give Republicans a large enough margin to prevent if from moving forward.

“Absolutely,” Kirk said, when asked if he’d vote for the bill, even if Brown captures the seat.
“It would be my responsibility as United States Senator, representing the people and understanding Senator Kennedy’s agenda and the rest of it ... I think you’re asking me a hypothetical question but I’d be pleased to vote for the bill.”

In reporting on this I hope you will consider the following response from the Scott Brown for Senate campaign:

“This is a stunning admission by Paul Kirk and the Beacon Hill political machine today. Paul Kirk appears to be suggesting that he, Deval Patrick, and Harry Reid intend to stall the election certification until the health care bill is rammed through Congress, even if that means defying the will of the people of Massachusetts. As we’ve already seen from the backroom deals and kickbacks cut by the Democrats in Washington, they intend to do anything and everything to pass their controversial health care plan. But threatening to ignore the results of a free election and steal this Senate vote from the people of Massachusetts takes their schemes to whole new level. Martha Coakley should immediately disavow this threat from one of her campaign’s leading supporters.” ###

Congressman Pete King Weekly Republican Address 01/09/09 PODCAST VIDEO FULL TEXT TRANSCRIPT

Congressman Pete King Weekly Republican Address 01/09/09 FULL TEXT TRANSCRIPT VIDEO

PODCAST, MP3 for DOWNLOAD

Hi, I’m Republican Congressman Pete King. I serve as the Ranking Member on the House Homeland Security Committee and I’m also a member of the House Intelligence Committee. I have the privilege to represent New York’s Third Congressional District, on Long Island in the suburbs of New York City.

Two weeks ago, the terrorist plot to bring down Northwest Airlines Flight 253 in the skies over Detroit was thwarted by a combination of luck and vigilance. But as President Obama has rightly said, it should never have even gotten to that point.

Last year, this terrorist’s father, a widely respected member of his community, went to our embassy in Nigeria and shared his concerns that his son was becoming a radical jihadist. That should have been more than enough to trigger a red flag that would prevent this terrorist from ever setting foot on a plane bound for the U.S with explosives.

Both parties recognize the need for answers, so bureaucratic reviews will take place and congressional hearings will be held.

And while that’s all well and good, this is about much more than whether the no-fly list gets longer or it takes more time to get through the security line at the airport.

This is about whether we’ve learned our lesson. Terrorists still have innocent people in their sights and the will to murder them.

They are always working on the next attack, refining their methods, searching the globe for new recruits. In other words, September 11th is not ancient history -- it’s all too real.

So, the people in my community certainly get it. American families get it. And now it’s time for the Administration in Washington to stop sending mixed messages and get it too.

One of the first things we need to do is pass the Keep Terrorists Out of America Act, a common-sense bill Republicans have proposed to prevent terrorists from being brought onto our soil. This bill would help stop the misguided plan to put Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other 9/11 terrorists on trial in downtown Manhattan. It’s an enormous, unnecessary risk, as is housing terrorists at the proposed ‘Gitmo North’ facility near Chicago.

There’s a good reason why the government has had such a hard time transferring these terrorist detainees to other countries. They are the worst of the worst. No one should want them. That’s why we put in place a process by which these terrorists should be held and tried -- as enemy combatants, by military commissions.

The Keep Terrorists Out of America Act will also help to ensure that we’re treating terrorism as what it is -- a war crime, not a law enforcement issue. We can’t gather the intelligence we need to foil future attacks if we are blindly granting terrorists the right to remain silent. But for some reason, we’ve already done that with the terrorist who tried to bring down Flight 253.

We’re a nation at war, and we should act like it. We need to pull together, remain vigilant, and send a clear signal -- both to our friends and our enemies -- that this government will stop at nothing to protect our homeland. That’s how America sets an example for the world. Thank you for listening. ###

Jim DeMint Erroll Southers TSA VIDEO

DeMint Statement on TSA Nominee: WASHINGTON, D.C - U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) made the following statement about President Obama’s nominee to lead the Transportation Security Administration (TSA):

"Erroll Southers has not been forthcoming about whether he'll give union bosses control of our airport security, which is one of the most important decisions he'll make as head of the TSA. Mr. Southers' unwillingness to form a position on collective bargaining seriously calls into question his judgment, because it weakens security and has already been rejected by the CIA, the FBI, the Secret Service, the Coast Guard, and by every previous TSA administrator."

“And now we learn that he misled Congress in sworn testimony about accessing confidential records. The TSA is one of the most critical security agencies in the War on Terror, and the Senate must carefully vet this nominee. If Mr. Southers is unwilling to put security ahead of politics and if he can't tell the truth, then he's not qualified and should not be confirmed." ###

Peg Luksik Calling Joe Friday Global warming

Peg Luksik

DuBois Business College gave me a warm welcome when I stopped in. Oil City, PA. Uploaded on August 12, 2009 by pegluksik, All rights reserved
In the 1950’s, the icon of the American police detective was Sergeant Joe Friday. He never got lost in emotional outbursts, but calmly reminded every witness he interviewed to give “just the facts” so he could accurately resolve each case he was investigating.

We need Sergeant Friday to be on the case today, insisting that those intent on remaking American society to avert the crisis of global warming stop their emotional outbursts and stick to the facts.

Let’s start with the facts about carbon dioxide.

Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant. It is a natural, and necessary, part of our atmosphere. We breathe in oxygen, and breathe out carbon dioxide.
Plants take in the carbon dioxide, use it to fuel their growth, and emit oxygen. It’s the respiratory cycle of life. If either side of the oxygen/carbon dioxide cycle is eliminated, life on this planet ends.

If we follow the facts, we find that abundant carbon dioxide levels stimulate plant growth. In 279 published experiments, plants, such as wheat, which were fertilized with carbon dioxide showed enhanced growth rates even though the water levels or soil contents were less than ideal. So carbon dioxide is actually proving itself to be an effective fertilization tool that would help the growth of plants over larger geographic areas, increasing the food supply across the world.

The same effect is found in forest growth. The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service reports that inventories of American hardwood and softwood timber have grown by 40%, and are increasing by 1% per year. This increase has led to a corresponding increase in the animal population that feeds on plants.

Carbon dioxide does not cause global warming. If it did, Mars would be a furnace because 95% of the atmosphere of Mars is carbon dioxide. But Mars is not a furnace, it is an ice cube. It is impossible for carbon dioxide to simultaneously warm the Earth and cool Mars.

The facts show that there is no correlation between temperature and levels of carbon dioxide. There is a correlation between solar activity, such as sun spots, and temperature change. That is why the temperatures of Mars, Jupiter, Neptune, Neptune’s moon Triton , and Pluto are rising at about the same rate as those on Earth.

The lack of connection between man-made carbon dioxide levels and temperature is not hard to establish. The Sargasso Sea is a 2 million square mile region of the Atlantic Ocean. Scientists have measured, with isotopes, the marine organism remains at the bottom to find the average temperatures of the earth going back 3,000 years. This is actual data, not a computer model.

They found that the average temperature on Earth has remained within a range of 3 degrees Celsius over 3,000 years. The warmest times occurred around 1,000 B.C., 500 B.C. and 1,000 A.D. This latest period is known as the Medieval Climate Optimum, when records show that farming occurred in Greenland and grapes grew in England. The period ended at about 1300 A.D., and temperatures have not reached that level of warming since.

The twentieth century is right in the middle of that 3 degree temperature range, making it exactly average in temperature levels.

If man-made carbon dioxide were causing, or even connected to, rising temperatures, the twentieth century would be the warmest. But it’s not even close.

As Joe Friday would say, let’s, “Stick to the facts, just the facts”, and leave the emotional outbursts behind.

Pat Toomey Time Running Out VIDEO

According to the Congressional Budget Office’s report, the Reid health care monstrosity will raise taxes by $518.5 billion and violates President Obama’s pledge not to raise taxes on the middle-class.

The $518 billion in new taxes include:

- A $149 billion tax increase on private health insurance plans that will affect many middle-class people in high cost areas.

- $43 billion in new taxes and fines on individuals and businesses as part of the bill’s new health insurance mandate.

- More than $100 billion in new taxes and fees on firms in the health sector, including a tax on manufacturers and importers of medical devises. According to the CBO, these taxes and fees “would be largely passed through to consumers in the form of higher premiums for private coverage.”

- $87 billion in new Medicare payroll taxes.

But President Obama was not the only one to break his pledge when Reid’s health care monstrosity was voted on in the wee hours of the morning today. Senator Arlen Specter had signed a Taxpayer Protection Pledge against raising taxes. Last night, he broke that pledge. (RC #385, 12/21/09)

Senator Specter was given the opportunity to vote separately against the huge tax increases in this bill, but preferred to be a rubber stamp for Harry Reid’s extreme agenda. Specter voted against an amendment to strip the bill of tax increases on people earning less than $250,000 a year. Even though five Democrats supported the amendment, Specter voted “NO.” (RC #376, 12/15/09)

“Over the past nine months, Senator Specter has gone from being opposed to a public option to being a rubber stamp for Harry Reid’s extreme liberal agenda,” Toomey Communications Director Nachama Soloveichik said. “It is shame to see Specter putting his political career ahead of the needs of Pennsylvania taxpayers. Unlike Specter, Pat Toomey supports commonsense health care reforms that will lower health care costs and introduce competition into the system. These include comprehensive tort reform, allowing individuals to purchase health insurance across state lines, allowing the formation of health associations, and giving individually purchased health insurance the same tax benefits as employee provided health insurance.”

“Pat’s principled and thoughtful approach to health care reform is just one of the many reasons why Pennsylvanians are rallying to his side and rejecting Specter’s rampant political opportunism.” -30-

Marco Rubio Praises McCollum’s Challenge to Constitutionality of Health Care Reform

Miami, FL – U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio today (01/04/09) issued the following statement in support of Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum’s efforts to challenge the constitutionality of federal health care legislation:

“I commend Attorney General McCollum’s pre-emptive effort to clean up the mess federal health care legislation stands to make if it becomes law. In their quest to pass a bill by any means necessary, Democrats have proven there is no price they aren’t willing to pay even if it means violating the U.S. Constitution through the imposition of an individual mandate that would force Floridians to obtain insurance or face penalties.
“As attorneys general and elected officials across the country have pointed out, the government takeover of health care rammed through Congress runs contrary to the freedoms Americans have enjoyed since our founding. This is particularly true in Florida where our state constitution guarantees us ‘the right to be let alone and free from governmental intrusion into [our] private life.’ Accordingly, I support Attorney General McCollum’s effort to question the constitutionality of the health care legislation and his office’s exploration of Florida’s legal options should this legislation eventually become law.

“When he endorsed President Obama’s failed stimulus, Charlie Crist embraced a policy that similarly called for more taxes, more spending and more government intrusion into Floridians’ lives. It also helped Democrats set the course for other government interventions like this health care policy.

“Aided by the support of a few Republicans like Charlie Crist, President Obama and the Democrat Congress have been unrelenting in their push toward big government intrusions in economic policy, energy policy and health care policy. In the face of this relentless onslaught, individual states should take necessary action to protect their citizens’ freedom and limit government by pursuing bold actions to tighten the reins on Washington. State leaders have an obligation to speak clearly and forcefully against what is being done in Washington on health care, and I commend Attorney General McCollum for doing just that.
