President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate five individuals, appoint four individuals and upon appointment designate one individual to serve in his Administration:
The President intends to nominate Benedict S. Cohen, of the District of Columbia, to be General Counsel of the Department of the Army. Mr. Cohen currently serves as Senior Advisor to the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Prior to this, he served as Staff Director for the House Committee on Homeland Security. Earlier in his career, he served as Deputy General Counsel for Environment and Installations at the Department of Defense. Mr. Cohen received his bachelor's degree from Yale University and his JD from the University of Chicago.
The President intends to nominate Robert M. McDowell, of Virginia, to be a Commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission, for the remainder of a five-year term expiring June 30, 2009. Mr. McDowell currently serves as Senior Vice President and Assistant General Counsel for the Competitive Telecommunications Association (CompTel). Prior to this, he served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel for the America's Carriers Telecommunications Association. Earlier in his career, he was a Senior Attorney at Helein & Associates, P.C. Mr. McDowell received his bachelor's degree from Duke University and his JD from the College of William and Mary.
The President intends to nominate Mauricio J. Tamargo, of Florida, to be Chairman of the Foreign Claims Settlement Commission of the United States at the Department of Justice, for an additional three-year term expiring September 30, 2009. Mr. Tamargo currently serves as Chairman. Prior to this, he served as Chief of Staff and Legal Counsel for the Office of Representative Ileana Ros Lehtinen. Earlier in his career, he served as Staff Director and Counsel for a variety of subcommittees of the House Committee on International Relations. Mr. Tamargo received his bachelor's degree from the University of Miami and his JD from Samford University.
The President intends to nominate Armando J. Bucelo, of Florida, to be a Director of the Board of Directors of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (Public), for the remainder of a three-year term expiring December 31, 2008
The President intends to nominate Todd S. Farha, of Florida, to be a Director of the Board of Directors of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (Public) and upon appointment designate Vice Chairman, for a three-year term expiring December 31, 2006 and an additional three-year term expiring December 31, 2009.
The President intends to appoint Douglas DeMaster, of Washington, to be the Deputy United States Commissioner on the International Whaling Commission.
The President intends to appoint William Hogarth, of Florida, to be the United States Commissioner on the International Whaling Commission.
The President intends to appoint William B. Keleher, of New Mexico, to be a Member of the Board of Directors of the Valles Caldera Trust (Expert in Cultural and Natural History), for the remainder of a four-year term expiring January 16, 2009.
The President intends to appoint Michael Robert Oestreicher, of Ohio, to be a Member of the Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations, for a two-year term.
