House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today called for immediate enactment of Republicans’ Pledge to America to help end the ongoing economic uncertainty in the wake of a new Department of Labor report showing that the U.S. economy lost 95,000 jobs in the month of September, while unemployment remained at 9.6 percent despite Obama Administration projections that it would never exceed eight percent following the passage of the ‘stimulus’: “This disappointing jobs report demonstrates the pressing need to immediately enact the Pledge to America and help end the uncertainty caused by Washington Democrats’ out-of-control spending spree and job-killing policies.

“According to the Obama Administration’s own projections, unemployment should now be at roughly seven percent on account of the ‘stimulus,’ but instead it now stands at 9.6 percent. In fact, unemployment is higher than the Obama Administration said it would be if we had not passed the ‘stimulus’ at all. Small businesses are pulling back at a time when we need them to be expanding and hiring, an uncertainty worsened by Washington Democrats’ failure to stop all the tax hikes set to take effect January 1st . Near 10 percent unemployment and widespread uncertainty is a far cry from the robust recovery President Obama promised the American people.

“With the Pledge to America, Republicans have offered a clear and positive plan to help end the economic uncertainty, create jobs, and make America more competitive. With the American people asking ‘where are the jobs?,’ Republicans’ blueprint for job creation starts with stopping all of the looming tax hikes and ending Washington’s out-of-control spending spree. Make no mistake, our economy will ultimately recover, but it will do so because of the hard work and entrepreneurship of the American people, not more of the same wasteful Washington spending and job-killing tax hikes and mandates.”

"It's on, Andrew, and you better be ready to answer your record," Caputo said. "Why did you take a multimillion dollar bribe from Andrew Farkas, a man you refused to prosecute at HUD? Are you sorry for lighting the fuse on the sub-prime mortgage meltdown that vaporized New Yorkers' 401k's? And why are you committed to raising taxes and spending while taxpayers suffer?"

The casting for the ad called for actors with a "hicky, blue-collar look."

NRSC spokesperson Brian Walsh said the call was written by consulting firm Jamestown Associates.

"No one at the NRSC, or associated with the NRSC, had anything to do with the language used in this casting call .... We do not support it, and suffice to say, we would encourage our contractors to never work with this outside agency again."

Ken Buck leads appointed Sen. Michael Bennet 50 percent to 42 percent in a McClatchy-Marist Poll

Unelected Democratic Senator Michael Bennet is now facing off against Republican Ken Buck in the race for U.S. Senate in Colorado. Here’s how the contest stands now. According to this McClatchy-Marist Poll in Colorado, half of likely voters including those who are undecided yet leaning toward a candidate -- 50% -- support Buck while 42% back Bennet. Two percent are voting for someone else, and 6% are undecided.

Partisan politics are alive and well in Colorado. Among likely voters including those who are undecided yet leaning toward a candidate, 94% of Democratic voters support Bennet while just 2% back Buck. 90% of Republican voters back Buck while Bennet receives 7% of their vote. Among likely independent voters, the candidates are more competitive. Buck is favored by 44% while Bennet receives 43% of their support.

Among registered voters in Colorado, Bennet and Buck are neck and neck. Bennet receives 41% of the vote compared with 40% for Buck. Two percent are voting for someone else, and 17% are undecided.

Republican John Kasich holds a 50 - 41 percent lead over Democratic incumbent Ted Strickland

October 5, 2010 - Strickland Gains Ground, But Trails In Ohio Gov Race, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; Incumbent Hurt By Grim Voter Outlook On Economy

Republican John Kasich holds a 50 - 41 percent lead over Democratic incumbent Ted Strickland among likely voters in the race for Ohio governor, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. This is down from a 54 - 37 percent Kasich lead September 16.

President Barack Obama's trips to Ohio to campaign for Democrats have not been helpful in attracting voters to Gov. Strickland, as only 14 percent of likely voters overall and just 6 percent of independent voters say the president's visits make them more likely to vote for the Democrat, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University survey finds. In all, 33 percent of likely voters and 39 percent of independent likely voters say an Obama visit made it less likely they would vote for Strickland.

The two candidates are holding onto their party faithful, with Kasich getting 88 percent of Republicans and Strickland getting 86 percent of Democrats. But Kasich's 62 - 29 percent lead among independent voters is responsible for his overall lead. Among the likely electorate, Strickland is viewed unfavorably by 47 percent and favorably by 41 percent, while Kasich is viewed favorably by 46 percent and unfavorably by 30 percent.

Only 14 percent of likely voters think Ohio's economy is getting better, while 45 percent think it is getting worse and 40 percent think it is staying the same. Strickland leads 88 - 3 percent among those who think the economy is getting better and 55 - 38 percent among those who think it is the same, but Kasich leads 76 - 13 percent among those who think it is getting worse.

"Whether his fault or not, the pessimistic public mood about the economy is a problem for Gov. Ted Strickland and a plus for John Kasich," said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

"The governor's race has tightened but Kasich still has a healthy lead with four weeks until Election Day. If Gov. Strickland is to mount a comeback, he needs to make a major dent in Kasich's commanding lead among independent voters, who often make the difference in close elections in Ohio," Brown added.

"Not only does Strickland have to take all the undecided voters, he needs to peel away some of the soft Kasich voters as well if he is to win," said Brown. "Among likely voters, President Barack Obama is a negative for Gov. Strickland. Ohio likely voters disapprove 57 - 39 percent of the job President Obama is doing. If Obama had a 57 - 39 percent positive job approval instead, Strickland would have a lot better chance of winning re-election."

By 53 - 40 percent, likely voters disapprove of the job Strickland is doing in his first term as governor and disapprove of his handling of the economy 58 - 35 percent.

Asked what qualities are most important in a candidate for governor, only 11 percent say the "right experience" - presumably a quality they would ascribe to the incumbent. More than twice as many voters, 27 percent, say they want someone to bring change to Columbus. Another 25 percent cite honesty as the most important quality in a candidate and 33 percent want a candidate who shares their values.

"There clearly is an anti-incumbent mood in the country and in Ohio as well. That certainly doesn't help Strickland. In most years, experience in office is a major plus with voters. But not necessarily this year."

By 49 - 40 percent, likely voters say Kasich rather than Strickland most shares their values, and by 51 - 39 percent they think the Republican would do a better job than the Democrat in rebuilding the state's economy.

"Four weeks is a lifetime in political campaigns, but the governor needs to seize the momentum soon if he is to win a second term," said Brown.

From September 29 - October 3, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,025 Ohio likely voters, with a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage points.

[Oshkosh, WI] Following calls from the National Football League (NFL) earlier today for Senator Russ Feingold to remove his attack ad from the air, the Senator’s campaign reportedly agreed to remove the illegally used footage from their ad. But in just one more example of Senator Feingold saying one thing and doing another, he continues to run his misleading attack ad, despite the NFL’s request.

“Senator Feingold’s tendency to talk out of both sides of his mouth is nothing short of shameful and dishonest,” Ron Johnson for Senate Spokeswoman Sara Sendek said. “Just like a typical career politician Senator Feingold told the NFL and the public the ad would be pulled, while continuing to air the very ad in question. It is time for Senator Feingold to end his partisan trickery and start being honest with the voters of Wisconsin.”

Austin Scott Surges to 8 Point Lead in New Poll

Results Reveal Backlash Against Marshall’s Big-Spending Record and Negative Ads. Macon, GA - Small businessman and GOP State Rep. Austin Scott has surged into an 8-point lead over Democrat incumbent Jim Marshall, according to a new poll commissioned by his campaign.

The poll, conducted from September 26-27 by American Viewpoint – Sen. Isakson’s pollster – shows Scott ahead of Marshall by a 46%-38% margin among the 300 likely voters surveyed. The survey has a +/- 5.7% margin of error.

Scott said, “Our team is very encouraged by these numbers. This poll shows what we’ve known all along—the voters in this district are concerned with the economy and job creation and want to put a stop to the big-spending, big-debt, job-killing agenda of Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Jim Marshall. But make no mistake, we have 32 days of hard work ahead of us. These results show that our common-sense conservative message is resonating, and that voters want a check and balance on Obama’s agenda in Washington.”

Among the poll’s other encouraging findings, only 34% of voters say Marshall’s done his job well enough to deserve re-election, while a majority (53%) say it’s time to give someone new a chance.

An American Viewpoint survey from July showed Scott trailing Marshall by a 39-44% margin. Since then, Marshall has launched a misleading, negative campaign. But Scott has responded forcefully by pointing to Marshall’s real record – including his support for Obama’s failed stimulus that helped create jobs in China, not Georgia.

Campaign spokesman Sam Ray said, “These numbers show why Jim Marshall has been desperately trying to distract from his voting record and what it’s done to the economy. This poll show voters agree we must have a new direction focused on halting runaway spending, promoting private sector job growth and getting the economy back on track.”

Jeff Perry Campaign Launches Web Video of Quincy Visit With U.S. Senator Brown

Senator Brown calls for greater fiscal responsibility and an end to 'dirty politics' by Democrats

SANDWICH – The Jeff Perry for Congress campaign launched a Web video today highlighting United States Senator Scott Brown's visit to Quincy yesterday in support of Jeff Perry.

During his visit to Quincy, Senator Brown spoke highly of Jeff Perry and said he hopes Perry can join him in Washington to fight against higher taxes and spending.

"I've known Jeff for awhile. We worked in the Legislature together," said Senator Brown. "Being the new guy in Washington, I need other new people who are going to be fighting the raising of taxes and the spending that's going on. Somebody who's going to be a fiscal hawk, and concerned about our national security. And, it's important to have someone who's independent and who's going to fight for the interests of the people of the 10th [Congressional District]."

Reducing the size of the $13 trillion national debt is a fiscal priority for Perry in his campaign. Last week, Perry pledged publicly not to request earmarks in the federal budget, earning him the endorsement of the nationwide Council for Citizens Against Government Waste Political Action Committee (CCAGW PAC) in the 10th Congressional district race. He has also voiced support for passage of constitutional amendments for a balanced budget and for presidential line item veto authority.

Senator Brown also addressed repeated campaign attacks against Perry by his Democratic opponent during the campaign.

"It's important for Bill to start focusing on the issues and get the election out of the gutter," Brown said. "When I was campaigning, my opponent tried that kind of 'dirty politics' playbook on me, and the voters rejected it. A lot of the issues that he's discussing have been aired, and the people down in the 10th [Congressional District] spoke. People are concerned about jobs, taxes, spending, debt, and how we protect ourselves from any terrorist activities. And I encourage him to start talking about the issues."

Speaking about Brown's visit in support of his campaign, Perry said, "I appreciate Senator Brown's support. Like Senator Brown, I am concerned about the lightning pace at which our national debt is increasing. At more than $13 trillion, our national debt is quickly becoming a national security issue, in addition to threatening the quality of life for future generations. I am prepared to go to Washington to keep taxes low and cut out the wasteful spending so we can reduce our national debt and get our federal budget back on track. We cannot continue with business as usual in Washington."
