Ron Johnson Russ Feingold Wisconsin Senate Debate 10/08/10 FULL STREAMING VIDEO

Ron JohnsonRon Johnson Russ Feingold Wisconsin Senate Debate 10/08/10 FULL STREAMING VIDEO.

Tonight, voters had a chance to see a clear choice between Senator Russ Feingold and Oshkosh Manufacturer Ron Johnson. Senator Feingold is a career politician who has been part of the problem in Washington. At the debate Senator Feingold showed he was all rhetoric and no results. Ron Johnson stood out as the candidate with the common sense solutions to move Wisconsin and our country in the right direction. Below are the facts on Senator Feingold’s failed policies and why he is wrong for Wisconsin voters.
On the economy…

The US and Wisconsin Have Lost Jobs Since The Stimulus Was Enacted: 2.6 million American jobs have disappeared since February 2009 and 79,657 jobs in Wisconsin have been lost. ((Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Local Area Unemployment Statistics – Wisconsin,” US Department of Labor, http://data.bls.gov/, accessed 10/7/10)

On cutting wasteful spending…

Feingold Has Voted For Over 33,000 Earmarks: Senator Russ Feingold Voted In Favor Of 47 Appropriations Bills, Which Included At Least 32,980 Items Of Pork Totaling More Than $98 Billion. (Citizens Against Government Waste Website, “Pig Book,” www.cagw.org, Accessed 7/30/10)

On health care…

CMS Says Health Care Spending Will Increase More Than Before ObamaCare Was Passed. “In February, the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services projected that overall national health spending would increase an average of 6.1% a year over the next decade. The center’s economists recalculated the numbers in light of the health bill and now project that the increase will average 6.3% a year, according to a report in the journal Health Affairs. Total U.S. health spending will reach $4.6 trillion by 2019, accounting for nearly one of every five U.S. dollars spent, the report says.” (Janet Adamy, “Health Outlays Still Seen Rising,” The Wall Street Journal, 9/9/10)

“U.S. Health Spending Is Projected To Rise 9.2% In 2014, Up From The 6.6% Projected Before The Law Took Effect.” (Janet Adamy, “Health Outlays Still Seen Rising,” The Wall Street Journal, 9/9/10)

On a radical environmental agenda…

White House: Cap and Trade Would Cost $1700 Per Family, Per Year. “The Obama administration has privately concluded that a cap and trade law would cost American taxpayers up to $200 billion a year, the equivalent of hiking personal income taxes by about 15 percent. A previously unreleased analysis prepared by the U.S. Department of Treasury says the total in new taxes would be between $100 billion to $200 billion a year. At the upper end of the administration’s estimate, the cost per American household would be an extra $1,761 a year.” (Declan McCullogh, “Obama Admin: Cap And Trade Could Cost Families $1,761 A Year,” CBS News, 9/15/09, cbsnews.com, accessed 10/8/10)

On tea party support…

When Interviewed By The New York Times in August, Sen. Feingold Attacked Members of the Tea Party Saying It Was Fueled By Hatred of President Obama, Not Government Spending. “I go to every county every year and hold a town meeting. Within days of the president being sworn in, I had people showing up at my town meeting with hats on, with tea bags coming out, saying this is going to be socialism.” (Jeff Zeleny, “10 Questions for Russ Feingold, The New York Times, August 31, 2010)

On Social Security…

In 1999, Feingold Voted Against An Amendment That Would Create A Social Security Lockbox. “Motion to invoke cloture (thus limiting debate) on the Lott, R-Miss., amendment that would create a Social Security ‘lockbox,’ establish declining limits on the public debt and create a Senate point of order against any provision that would exceed the debt limit.” (S. 557, CQ Vote #211: Rejected 52-43: R 51-1; D 0-42; I 1-0, 7/16/99, Feingold Voted Nay)

The Justice Department Credited The Patriot Act With Enhancing Information Sharing That Could Have Prevented 9/11. “The Justice Department credits the Patriot Act with expanding the government’s arsenal of investigative tools, helping it crack several cases. Law-enforcement officials say the act has greatly enhanced information sharing within the FBI, and with the intelligence community at large. The law helped erode the legal and bureaucratic ‘wall’ that used to separate the intelligence and criminal sides of an investigation. Federal authorities say this wall is at least partly responsible for FBI and CIA intelligence failures prior to the attacks of Sept. 11.” (Larry Abramson, Maria Godoy & Katie Gradowski, “The Patriot Act: Justice Department Claims Success,” www.npr.org, 7/20/05)

Florida Senate Debate Marco Rubio Charlie Crist Kendrick Meek 10/06/10 FULL STREAMING VIDEO.

Orlando, FL – Following today’s (10/06/10) U.S. Senate debate on ABC 9 in Orlando, Rubio for Senate spokesman Alex Burgos released the following statement:

“There are over 1 million Floridians who are out of work, but all Kendrick Meek and Charlie Crist offered tonight were false attacks, partisan name-calling or calls to continue on the current path of higher taxes, more debt and bigger government.
Over the course of 60 minutes, Marco once again made clear what more Floridians have been learning over the past 20 months – that he’s the only candidate in this race who will go to Washington, stand up to politicians in both parties who have taken our country in the wrong direction, and offer a clear alternative based on ideas and principles.

“Kendrick Meek wants to continue on America’s current direction while Charlie Crist could care less what direction we go in so long as he can be a senator. But Floridians know we simply can’t afford the next two years to be like the past two years. It’s clear that the current agenda being pursued in Washington stands in sharp contrast with the mainstream ideas Marco Rubio supports to promote job creation, tackle our dangerous debt and ensure our country remains the strongest nation on earth.”

Mark Kirk Alexi Giannoulias Debate Meet the Press 10/10/10 VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

Meet the Press transcript for Oct. 10, 2010 Mark Kirk, Alexi Giannoulias, Peggy Noonan, Joe Klein

MR. DAVID GREGORY: This Sunday, the countdown to November 2nd, Election Day. The president is on the trail trying to protect home turf, stumping for the Democrat vying for his old Senate seat.

(Videotape)

PRES. BARACK OBAMA: You can trust him. You can count on him.

(End videotape)

MR. GREGORY: As the GOP threatens to change the balance of power in Washington, the fight for the Illinois Senate seat is still too close to call. This morning we kick off our election year Senate debate series with a showdown between the Democrat, Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, and the Republican, Congressman Mark Kirk. The big issues: jobs, spending and taxes, and the credibility questions dogging both candidates, making this an intensely negative campaign.

Then, our political roundtable on the bigger picture. How new jobless numbers affect the campaign, whether Democrats can make the election a closer contest than most expect, and another high-level departure from the White House. With us, Time magazine columnist Joe Klein and The Wall Street Journal’s Peggy Noonan.

Announcer: From NBC News in Washington, MEET THE PRESS with David Gregory.

MR. GREGORY: Good morning. With only 23 days to go, the campaign team of President Obama and Vice President Biden heads to Philadelphia today to try to rally Democrats to turn out for Pennsylvania Senate candidate Joe Sestak. But here in Washington this morning it’s all eyes on the tight battle in Illinois.

(Videotape, October 7, 2010)

PRES. OBAMA: Hello, Chicago. Oh, it’s good to be home.

(End videotape)

MR. GREGORY: The fight is personal for the president.

(Videotape, October 7, 2010)

PRES. OBAMA: In some very tough circumstances, in a tough political season, you know, he has not wavered. And that’s the kind of person that you want. That’s the kind of person that you know when the going gets tough in Washington will be fighting for you.

(End videotape)

MR. GREGORY: Democratic State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, neck and neck with five-term Republican Congressman Mark Kirk, battling for perhaps the most famous Senate seat up for grabs in this midterm race: President Obama’s former seat. For the GOP, it’s the ultimate prize.

MR. CHUCK TODD: The fact of the matter is if Democrats hold the majority, it’ll be because they held the president’s Senate seat. If they lose the majority, it means that one of the seats they lost is the president’s Senate seat. That’s the ultimate repudiation if you’re a former Illinois senator now sitting in the Oval Office.

MR. GREGORY: It is also a race that was marred by scandal from the start. When President Obama left one end of Pennsylvania Avenue for the other, then-Governor Rod Blagojevich ignored objections from Democratic leaders and appointed a former state attorney general, Roland Burris, to the seat. Blagojevich was later arrested, charged with attempting to sell the president’s old Senate seat. Then the campaigning began and the scandals continued.

(Clip from campaign ad)

MR. GREGORY: Kirk, a Navy reservist, has a list of erroneous or exaggerated claims about his military record, including his service in the Gulf War and during the invasion of Iraq. And Giannoulias, a 34-year-old former college basketball star who played professionally in Greece, has been plagued with questions surrounding his family’s troubled bank and whether Giannoulias, at the time a senior loan officer at the bank, was aware of $20 million in loans to a pair of Chicago criminals.

MS. LYNN SWEET: If all you’re looking at is the negative side, you have a choice between a serial embellisher and a mob banker.

MR. GREGORY: So how will Illinois voters decide, and what will the outcome say about this midterm campaign?

And joining me now, Republican Congressman Mark Kirk and Illinois State Treasurer Democrat Alexi Giannoulias.

Welcome to both of you to our studio and to this debate, MEET THE PRESS style. So there are no set rules. We’re sitting around this table, we’re going to have a conversation, and we’re going to go through the issues. And there’s a lot to get to, so let’s get to it.

I don’t have to tell you both, the specter of President Obama hangs over this race because indeed it was his Senate seat that you are now vying for. And it was on Election Day, November 4th, 2008, in Chicago, when the president and his family appeared after he was then the president-elect, and this is what he said.

(Videotape, November 4, 2008)

PRES. OBAMA: It’s been a long time coming. But tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America.

(End videotape)

MR. GREGORY: Mr. Giannoulias, let me start with you. How would you define the change that has come to America under President Barack Obama?

MR. ALEXI GIANNOULIAS: Well, I think it’s important to put things in context. And if you look at the mess that he inherited and the enormous challenges that he inherited—a trillion-dollar deficit, increasing job losses—I think he’s done everything he can to help turn this economy around. The question is, going forward, what more can we do? We focused our campaign on creating private sector jobs, we’ve talked about infrastructure, we’ve talked about moving forward with the next generation of clean energy, clean energy jobs, tax breaks to small businesses, a job creation tax credit for small business, a payroll tax holiday for low to moderate income workers, doing everything we can to get that $1.5 trillion that’s, quite frankly, sitting on the sidelines in the private sector, encouraging and promoting economic growth.

MR. GREGORY: But the country’s better off in this economic recession because of the change that President Obama brought?

MR. GIANNOULIAS: I think if you look at what would’ve happened if some of the measures weren’t taken—and again, they weren’t, weren’t perfect. For example, I think when you look at TARP, the bailouts for the biggest banks, something that Congressman Kirk voted for, I think I would’ve liked to have seen, as a, as a former community banker, some more oversight, some more accountability, requirement that these banks lend money to help increase access to capital, something we’ve done in the State Treasurer’s Office. I think that was a, a missed opportunity.

MR. GREGORY: Congressman, you had said at a rally back in March, a GOP rally, that Obama, that we—about the president, “We are on the way to making this guy a one-termer.” How do you answer that question? How do you define the change he’s brought to America?

REP. MARK KIRK (R-IL): A tremendous amount of debt. I’ve got a chart here that shows our debt-to-GDP ratio. And while we did run deficits in the past, we now number our debt in trillions rather than in billions. And I think that represents a long-term danger, especially to the, the American dream. Every American born today owes $43,000 to the federal government the day she or he is born. And we are transferring a tremendous amount of debt to the new generation, much of it owed to overseas creditors who expect to be repaid by our children with interest.

MR. GREGORY: But, Congressman, as a Republican member of Congress, do you really want to stand by your party’s record on the debt going back since you came to Congress?

REP. KIRK: No. I’ve become very much of a fiscal hawk here. I foreswore earmarks for my own congressional district, we could save $66 billion right there. The Kirk Amendment passed in the House that attacked the bridge to nowhere, even though it was in a Republican district, the chairman of the House Transportation Committee, and now it’s actually the bridges to nowhere will not be built.

MR. GREGORY: All right, I want to come back to the debt in just a minute, but I want to talk about the number one issue, I think, which is jobs, on the minds of every—unemployment is 9.9 percent in Illinois. And look at this chart, which is really a tale of woe in this country. You go back to 2009 in August; since that point, unemployment has been at 9.5 percent or higher. That’s 14 straight months. Congressman Kirk, I’ll start with you. What do you do at this point as the federal government to spur private sector job creation?

REP. KIRK: First of all, we recognize that the stimulus has largely failed. A very small part of it even went to infrastructure development projects. It didn’t answer the question, what happens when all the borrowed money runs out? Secondly, this Congress has been very, very viciously anti-business—new taxes, new regulation. We need senators and congressmen that will back a pro-growth agenda. For example, my Small Business Bill of Rights, 10 new policies to help out the number one employers in Illinois and the United States, small business. Half of all the jobs, 80 percent of the job losses in the great recession. They can’t afford a Washington lobbyist to go find stimulus money or a Washington lawyer to wade through the latest 1,000-page bill that congressional leaders haven’t even read.

MR. GREGORY: So tax, tax relief, tax cuts, in your mind, is really the job creation answer.

REP. KIRK: Well, a pro-growth agenda.

MR. GREGORY: Yeah.

REP. KIRK: Like making sure we don’t pass legislation to take away your right to a secret ballot in a union election. My opponent wants to take that right away, called the Card Check bill. I think that’s a terrible idea.

MR. GREGORY: All right, Mr. Giannoulias, how do you answer the question, job creation?
Advertisement | ad info

MR. GIANNOULIAS: I think one of the problem, I think one of the problems, quite frankly, is we have typical Washington, D.C., politicians who have forgotten what it’s like on Main Street. I’m the only candidate in this race who’s worked in the private sector. Congressman Kirk has been in Washington, D.C., for 20 years. If you’re thrilled with out-of-control spending, the out-of-control borrowing that has become the Washington, D.C., ethos, then Congressman Kirk is your man. I think what we have to do...

MR. GREGORY: My question is, what do you do to create private sector jobs, to put people back to work? What you just said doesn’t put anybody back to work, and that’s what people are wondering.

MR. GIANNOULIAS: So what we’ve done in, in the State Treasurer’s Office, for example, low interest loan programs, increasing access to capital. One of the biggest problems out there that I hear from my friends in the business community is that there’s no lending, that it’s tough to get a loan today. Even if you have a line of credit, it’s being tapped. So one of the first things that we need to do is find ways to increase liquidity, to increase access to capital, to make sure that $1.8 trillion that is sitting on the sidelines in the banking system, which can be leveraged to at least $18 trillion, we need to do everything we can to focus on that. We need to focus on green jobs: solar, wind, geothermal, biomass. There’s so many opportunities. But other countries like China are getting ahead of the curve.

MR. GREGORY: The government did do a lot with the stimulus, right? You had actually said the stimulus was not big enough. You’ve also said you’re going to lead a progressive caucus if you’re the senator from Illinois. Will you push the administration, if elected, to enact more stimulus, to spend more money to try to get more people back to work?

MR. GIANNOULIAS: If, if more stimulus means more tax cuts to small businesses, if, if more stimulus means middle class tax cuts, then I’m for it. I will tell you that we also have to keep in mind what the Recovery Act really did. A third of it was tax cuts to middle class families, a third of it was emergency measure to—emergency funding to state and municipalities, something that I’ve seen as state treasurer is important.

MR. GREGORY: But do you acknowledge it hasn’t done the trick? I mean, 14 months of unemployment. They said that it would—if you passed stimulus, it would—the unemployment would get to 8 point--8 percent; 9.5 percent for 14 straight months.

MR. GIANNOULIAS: I think, David, the bigger question is what would have happened—and it wasn’t flawlessly done. But if, if you take a look at what would have happened, I mean, do we need to see soup lines down the street to figure out what would have happened? We avoided—and all economists will tell you that millions of jobs were saved because of the Recovery Act, and we avoided a second Great Depression. That, that is a reality.

MR. GREGORY: All right, let me have you two engage on the big tax debate here. Congressman, do you think that the Bush-era tax cuts should be extended for all Americans?

REP. KIRK: Right. Like CNN just did a survey of economists...

MR. GREGORY: You believe that.

REP. KIRK: ...saying that they should not have a new big tax increase on December 31st. If you look what congressional leaders want to do, they want to hit the U.S. economy with a $900 billion tax increase on December 31st on top of the 10 new taxes that were in the healthcare bill, on top of the taxes that were in financial regulation bill, on top of the taxes that were in the August congressional legislation. I don’t think—the, the key danger here is will our policies increase the chance of a double-dip recession? If you look at the job numbers just last week, we have a significant danger of that. And taking more money out of the private economy and having the government perform as it has poorly done with the stimulus I don’t think is the right way to go.
Advertisement | ad info

MR. GREGORY: But it’s interesting you’d say that. And you said just a moment ago, if I heard you right, that you’re a deficit hawk, a fiscal hawk.

REP. KIRK: That’s right.

MR. GREGORY: Well, back in 2004 you were part of this Republican Main Street Partnership. And as part of that group, you had a press release on 2004. I’m going to put some of it up on the screen. “Today the Republican Main Street Partnership, the largest organization of elected moderate Republicans in the nation, offered six principles for the fiscal year ‘05 budget resolution that were designed to put Congress on a path toward a balanced budget. These principles,” you said then, “stand for a key value that once we adopt the budget, we must have the tools to stick to it,” said Congressman Mark Kirk. Now, here was a key part of that: “Tax cuts should only be extended temporarily and limited to those that are due to expire in 2004.” Key point: “We simply can’t afford permanent and across-the-board extensions at this time.” That’s what you said then, when the...

REP. KIRK: Right.

MR. GREGORY: ...when the debt was about one-third of what it was today. Congressman, how can we afford to make permanent tax extensions now with the Bush tax cuts in this climate?

REP. KIRK: Because especially in this climate we have congressional leaders that are not interested in spending restraint at all. For example, I back spending restraint across the board; at the DOD, like no second engine for the F-35 fighter, closing down Joint Forces Command, across-the-board reductions. When you look at the state of the economy right now, you have to set a priority. And my top priority is the deficit of jobs and economic growth, and especially this perception that the United States could be falling behind especially Asian economies. If we go through all the tax increases that congressional leaders propose—and by the way, Congress is going to come back right after the election in this lame duck session of Congress with a new round of spending in a omnibus appropriation bill, and new tax increases.

"America is rapidly transforming into a government-run enterprise ... American politicians are selling out America and its most cherished institution, that being capitalism."

“America needs a president who believes in America. America needs a president who will stand up for America and protect its language, its borders, and most importantly, its culture.

What American’s need is a president who seeks to empower the people and to allow the free market to determine value, not a president intent on empowering Government and misappropriating the resources of the productive class. America,

I will fight to give the power back to the people. My entire platform and all of my policies and decisions will be organized so as to achieve a much smaller, fiscally responsible, decentralized federal government, a robust economy run strictly on Free Market Principles, and the strongest National Defense on Earth.”

Senator John Barrasso Weekly Republican Address TEXT VIDEO 10/09/10

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Vice Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference John Barrasso (R-Wyoming) released the following weekly Republican address.

“I’m John Barrasso, United States Senator for Wyoming.
John Barrasso

Senator Barrasso And wife Bobbi get a picture with Allison Perry at the Annual Buddy Walk in Laramie, WY.
”The Code of the West says “when you make a promise, keep it.” In Washington, promises don’t seem to mean much these days.

“For almost two years, President Obama and Democrats in Congress have broken their promises on jobs, on spending and on health care.

“The White House promised that massive federal spending would keep the unemployment rate below 8%. Instead what taxpayers got was $800 billion in new debt and nearly 10% unemployment.
“48 states have lost jobs. Friday’s job figures confirm that far too many Americans are still looking for work.

“While the White House touts its Recovery Summer, most Americans see an alarming autumn.

“People are beginning to realize that the only jobs Congressional Democrats are really focused on are their own.

“The President promised to be financially responsible with your tax dollars. Yet our federal government continues down a ruinous path of outrageous spending, borrowing and piling more and more debt on future generations.

“Our nation is now over $13 trillion in the red. A number so large it’s difficult to imagine.

“Since Democrats took over the Congress, the national debt has grown by five trillion dollars and the President’s own budget says it will grow by trillions more by the end of his term.

“Astonishingly, instead of cutting wasteful Washington spending, President Obama and the Democrats plan to raise taxes. Last week, Congress fled Washington while one of the largest tax hikes in our nation’s history hangs over the heads of working families.

“Rather than forcing Congress back into session to do the people’s business, the President merely waved goodbye.

“Interviewed recently about why he wouldn’t extend all of the tax cuts, President Obama declared that he had, quote, ‘a whole bunch of better ways for us to spend that money.’

“With all due respect Mr. President, this money isn’t yours. It belongs to the American people.

“The Obama tax hikes are yet another job killing burden that the American people and American employers cannot afford. Raising taxes on anyone in the middle of a recession is the worst thing we can do.

“Our problem is not that we are taxed too little – the problem is that Washington spends too much.

“As a doctor, I’ve also heard from Americans who are concerned about the President’s broken healthcare promises.

“In Wyoming and across the country, we are now bracing for the President’s new health care law. As you may remember, during the debate over health care President Obama promised time and time again that if you like your current health care plan, you can keep it.

“Well, it’s now clear that the President has broken that promise too.

“In June, the Obama administration took two pages of the health care law and transformed them into 121 pages of bureaucratic rules, regulations, and red tape that clearly violate the President’s promise.

“Employers large and small across the country say they may be forced to stop offering health insurance to employees --- simply because of the cost and the penalties of the President’s new health care law.

“And millions of American seniors could be forced from the Medicare Advantage plans that they know and they like.

“At the time of his inauguration, President Obama talked about how the American people had entrusted him with a great responsibility to keep the public’s trust.

“The President has failed to keep his promises on jobs, on spending and on health care. Frankly, very little trust remains.

“The President’s policies are irresponsible, and unsustainable. Worse, many Americans fear the damage done by these policies may also be irreversible.

“I believe there is too much at stake, and far too much to lose, for us to allow bad policies and reckless spending to remain unchecked or unchallenged. And so we will fight for a dramatic change in priority and direction.

“Republicans have a Pledge to America. A Pledge to prevent tax hikes, to reduce federal spending, and to work every day to repeal the massive new health care law and replace it with commonsense reforms that lower costs.

“If you are tired of Washington’s broken promises, you now have a choice. More of the same or a new direction.

“Thanks for listening.”

Jerry Brown using highly offensive and derogatory language to describe Meg Whitman:FULL AUDIO

CUPERTINO -- The morning, The Washington Post published an article on Jerry Brown's problems gaining women votes. The issues was highlighted today when the Los Angeles Times released an audio recording that captured members of Brown's campaign using highly offensive and derogatory language to describe Meg Whitman:

The Washington Post: In California, Jerry Brown's Woman Problem By Karen Tumulty

Jerry Brown has developed a woman problem - specifically, the fact that he doesn't seem to grasp what it means to be running against one.

The Los Angeles Times reported Thursday that in a private conversation inadvertently captured on voice mail, California's Democratic candidate for governor and his aides discussed their intention to portray his GOP opponent, Meg Whitman, as a "whore."

The conversation between Brown and his aides was picked up on a voice mail recording that Brown had left for a police union official in early September, apparently after Brown believed he had hung up.

As the recording continued, Brown and his aides discussed the pressure that police unions were putting on him to follow Whitman in pledging not to reduce their pensions.

"Do we want to put an ad out? That I have been warned if I crack down on pensions, I will be - that they'll go to Whitman, and that's where they'll go because they know Whitman will give 'em, will cut them a deal, but I won't," Brown said.

At that point, someone - the newspaper reported it was not clear whether it was Brown or another person - asked: "What about saying she's a whore?"

According to the paper, Brown said: "Well, I'm going to use that. It proves you've cut a secret deal to protect the pensions."

In a statement by spokeswoman Sarah Pompei, Whitman's campaign said: "The use of the term 'whore' is an insult to both Meg Whitman and to the women of California. This is an appalling and unforgivable smear against Meg Whitman. At the very least Mr. Brown tacitly approved this despicable slur, and he himself may have used the term at least once on this recording."

Brown's campaign manager Steven Glazer acknowledged to the Los Angeles Times that "at times our language was salty. We apologize to Ms. Whitman and anyone who may have been offended." Brown spokesman Sterling Clifford told the newspaper that the person who used the term "whore" was not Brown.

In a race whose outcome may well depend on Whitman's ability to appeal to women voters, it was not the first time that the California attorney general has spoken of his female opponent in terms that could be interpreted as sexist.

A September Field Poll suggested that Whitman has managed to erase the Democratic Party's traditional advantage among women, which is a rare feat for a Republican in California.

In response to a question about that surge in female support in a radio interview last month, Brown suggested that women had been swayed by a deluge of negative advertising by Whitman's campaign.

"You wanna say bought, or paid for, or as she likes to say, 'invested,'" Brown said on KGO radio. "Buying 125,000 commercials, 90 percent of which are negative, that has to have an impact."

And during an appearance on the talk show "Good Day LA," Brown suggested to the hosts - two of whom were female and blond, as is Whitman - that staging a debate would bring "another blonde on the show."

The controversy over Brown's latest comments comes as Whitman is trying to tamp down a furor that could alienate Latinos, another crucial constituency with which she has been making inroads.

For more than a week, Whitman has been struggling with a controversy over the fact that she had employed for nine years a housekeeper who was not in the country legally. The former eBay chief executive, who has advocated stiffer enforcement of penalties against employers who hire illegal immigrants, said she did not know of the housekeeper's status until her employee admitted it, at which point Whitman fired her.

Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) and Dallas Police Association (DPA) Endorse Gov. Rick Perry for Re-election

Rick Perry

By Governor Rick Perry All Rights Reserved
FORT WORTH – Today Gov. Perry received both the endorsements of the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) and the Dallas Police Association (DPA) for the 2010 general election.

“It is a true honor to receive the endorsements of the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas and the Dallas Police Association," said Gov. Perry. “Because of these brave men and women, people come to Texas knowing it’s a place where they can find a job, raise their families, and enjoy an outstanding quality of life.
The safety that the officers of the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas and the Dallas Police Association provide is crucial in keeping our communities safe and plays an essential role in our continued status as a national economic leader."

In his remarks, Gov. Perry reiterated that abolishing sanctuary cities in Texas will be a priority recognizing that some Texas cities have enacted sanctuary city rules that tie the hands of their police officers as they work to uphold the law. He announced he will make the abolition of sanctuary city rules an emergency item in the next legislative session, which will help ensure that Texas law enforcement professionals have the discretion to use their judgment as they work to keep Texas communities safe.

“Thanks to Gov. Perry’s steadfast support, Texas law enforcement officers and their families’ quality of life has improved,” said Todd Harrison, President of Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas. “Gov. Perry’s true commitment to law enforcement and conservative leadership has been solidified by his unwavering dedication to make sure we have the resources we need to continue protecting the lives of families across the state. Our organization believes the governor has earned our endorsement and deserves our ongoing support.”

CLEAT represents more than 17,500 local law enforcement officers in more than 80 local law enforcement associations. Its mission is to ensure that their brave men and women receive the rights, protections and respect they deserve for their role in enforcing the laws of Texas and protecting the lives and property of its citizens.

“Gov. Perry has been a tremendous help to the Dallas Police Association,” said Glenn White, President of the Dallas Police Association. “Throughout his tenure the governor has upheld his record of support of our police officers to the highest extent, which has been instrumental in allowing us to do our duty as law enforcement officers, effectively, and protect our citizens’ lives soundly. We are proud to endorse Gov. Perry for the 2010 general election.”

The Dallas Police Association is the original and the largest police employee group for Dallas Police Officers. The DPA has over 4,000 active and retired members and is open to any sworn member of the Dallas Police Department.

John Boehner Unemployment Rate With and Without Recovery Plan

Unemployment Rate With amd Without Recovery Plan

NOTE: This chart, included in a report in PDF format authored by economists Christina Romer – who has since left the White House – and Jared Bernstein, details the Obama Administration’s projections that unemployment would currently be at approximately 7.25 percent following the passage of the ‘stimulus’:
House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today called for immediate enactment of Republicans’ Pledge to America to help end the ongoing economic uncertainty in the wake of a new Department of Labor report showing that the U.S. economy lost 95,000 jobs in the month of September, while unemployment remained at 9.6 percent despite Obama Administration projections that it would never exceed eight percent following the passage of the ‘stimulus’:

“This disappointing jobs report demonstrates the pressing need to immediately enact the Pledge to America and help end the uncertainty caused by Washington Democrats’ out-of-control spending spree and job-killing policies.
“According to the Obama Administration’s own projections, unemployment should now be at roughly seven percent on account of the ‘stimulus,’ but instead it now stands at 9.6 percent. In fact, unemployment is higher than the Obama Administration said it would be if we had not passed the ‘stimulus’ at all. Small businesses are pulling back at a time when we need them to be expanding and hiring, an uncertainty worsened by Washington Democrats’ failure to stop all the tax hikes set to take effect January 1st . Near 10 percent unemployment and widespread uncertainty is a far cry from the robust recovery President Obama promised the American people.

“With the Pledge to America, Republicans have offered a clear and positive plan to help end the economic uncertainty, create jobs, and make America more competitive. With the American people asking ‘where are the jobs?,’ Republicans’ blueprint for job creation starts with stopping all of the looming tax hikes and ending Washington’s out-of-control spending spree. Make no mistake, our economy will ultimately recover, but it will do so because of the hard work and entrepreneurship of the American people, not more of the same wasteful Washington spending and job-killing tax hikes and mandates.”

Carl Paladino October 7 VIDEO Channel 12/Newsday debate on October 18th

BUFFALO, NY) - Paladino campaign manager Michael Caputo said at 6:15pm today that Republican candidate for Governor Carl Paladino would change his schedule to accept the Channel 12/Newsday debate on October 18th.

"Carl is delighted that Andrew Cuomo has accepted his challenge to debate after 23 days of dodging the question," Caputo said. "Carl Paladino has accepted seven debates, so now we wait for Cuomo to accept the other six invitations."

"Carl is also pleased that all the minor party candidates will be included and said from the beginning that excluding the African America and woman candidates was unfair," Caputo said. "Andrew Cuomo is the champion debater of all time and Carl understands he has his work cut out for him."

"The Paladino campaign was working via telephone with Newsday to nail down a date for a debate between all candidates for Governor. The debate hosts changed the date four times, and we accepted for October 14th," Caputo said. "Then they told us with less than 24 hours notice that they had changed the date to October 18th - a day when we had a longstanding scheduling conflict."

"Andrew Cuomo is playing games with the voters. His fear of addressing the issues has been clear for weeks, and he accepted the Newsday debate only when he heard Carl had a scheduling conflict," Caputo said. "Well, that's no problem. We've changed our plans to accommodate Cuomo's busy schedule hiding from the voters."

"It's on, Andrew, and you better be ready to answer your record," Caputo said. "Why did you take a multimillion dollar bribe from Andrew Farkas, a man you refused to prosecute at HUD? Are you sorry for lighting the fuse on the sub-prime mortgage meltdown that vaporized New Yorkers' 401k's? And why are you committed to raising taxes and spending while taxpayers suffer?"

ABOUT CARL PALADINO

Carl Paladino, a successful Buffalo builder and attorney, is a candidate for Governor of New York on the Republican Party, Conservative Party and Taxpayer Party lines. He is the CEO of a $500 million business and employs 450 people in Western New York. On September 14th, Paladino beat his Republican Primary opponent by a record 62 to 38 in one of the highest-turnout primaries in New York history.

Joe DioGuardi: Kirsten Gillibrand is desperate VIDEO

Joe DioGuardi: Kirsten Gillibrand is desperate VIDEO.

Thursday on "Washington Unplugged," telling CBS News' Kaylee Hartung Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is "desperate."

Why I am running to represent New York in the U.S. Senate

As a professional CPA and a former Member of Congress, I have witnessed firsthand the fiscal deterioration of our great country, and I cannot sit on the sidelines now that our economy is in shambles. In 1990, the bill that I introduced as a junior member of Congress, the “Chief Financial Officer and Federal Reform Act,” to help bring fiscal sanity to the budget process in Washington, DC, was signed into law. Two years later, I wrote a book to warn the American people about the gross lack of fiscal responsibility, financial accountability, and transparency on Capitol Hill, even predicting the inevitable insolvency of America. Today it is absolutely clear that my grave concerns can no longer be ignored, as millions of Americans lose their jobs and their homes. I want to finish the job that I began in 1985 to insure that the United States is once again acting in a fiscally responsible way to protect our economic and national security.

Republican John Kasich holds a 50 - 41 percent lead over Democratic incumbent Ted Strickland

October 5, 2010 - Strickland Gains Ground, But Trails In Ohio Gov Race, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; Incumbent Hurt By Grim Voter Outlook On Economy

Republican John Kasich holds a 50 - 41 percent lead over Democratic incumbent Ted Strickland among likely voters in the race for Ohio governor, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. This is down from a 54 - 37 percent Kasich lead September 16.

President Barack Obama's trips to Ohio to campaign for Democrats have not been helpful in attracting voters to Gov. Strickland, as only 14 percent of likely voters overall and just 6 percent of independent voters say the president's visits make them more likely to vote for the Democrat, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University survey finds. In all, 33 percent of likely voters and 39 percent of independent likely voters say an Obama visit made it less likely they would vote for Strickland.

The two candidates are holding onto their party faithful, with Kasich getting 88 percent of Republicans and Strickland getting 86 percent of Democrats. But Kasich's 62 - 29 percent lead among independent voters is responsible for his overall lead. Among the likely electorate, Strickland is viewed unfavorably by 47 percent and favorably by 41 percent, while Kasich is viewed favorably by 46 percent and unfavorably by 30 percent.

Only 14 percent of likely voters think Ohio's economy is getting better, while 45 percent think it is getting worse and 40 percent think it is staying the same. Strickland leads 88 - 3 percent among those who think the economy is getting better and 55 - 38 percent among those who think it is the same, but Kasich leads 76 - 13 percent among those who think it is getting worse.

"Whether his fault or not, the pessimistic public mood about the economy is a problem for Gov. Ted Strickland and a plus for John Kasich," said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

"The governor's race has tightened but Kasich still has a healthy lead with four weeks until Election Day. If Gov. Strickland is to mount a comeback, he needs to make a major dent in Kasich's commanding lead among independent voters, who often make the difference in close elections in Ohio," Brown added.

"Not only does Strickland have to take all the undecided voters, he needs to peel away some of the soft Kasich voters as well if he is to win," said Brown. "Among likely voters, President Barack Obama is a negative for Gov. Strickland. Ohio likely voters disapprove 57 - 39 percent of the job President Obama is doing. If Obama had a 57 - 39 percent positive job approval instead, Strickland would have a lot better chance of winning re-election."

By 53 - 40 percent, likely voters disapprove of the job Strickland is doing in his first term as governor and disapprove of his handling of the economy 58 - 35 percent.

Asked what qualities are most important in a candidate for governor, only 11 percent say the "right experience" - presumably a quality they would ascribe to the incumbent. More than twice as many voters, 27 percent, say they want someone to bring change to Columbus. Another 25 percent cite honesty as the most important quality in a candidate and 33 percent want a candidate who shares their values.

"There clearly is an anti-incumbent mood in the country and in Ohio as well. That certainly doesn't help Strickland. In most years, experience in office is a major plus with voters. But not necessarily this year."

By 49 - 40 percent, likely voters say Kasich rather than Strickland most shares their values, and by 51 - 39 percent they think the Republican would do a better job than the Democrat in rebuilding the state's economy.

"Four weeks is a lifetime in political campaigns, but the governor needs to seize the momentum soon if he is to win a second term," said Brown.

From September 29 - October 3, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,025 Ohio likely voters, with a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage points.

The Quinnipiac University Poll, directed by Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D., conducts public opinion surveys in Florida, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Ohio and the nation as a public service and for research. Russ Feingold Continues Illegal Use of NFL Footage VIDEO

There are 100 members of the US Senate. 57 of them, including Russ Feingold, are lawyers. That would be fine if we had a lawsuit to settle. But we have an economy to fix.

[Oshkosh, WI] Following calls from the National Football League (NFL) earlier today for Senator Russ Feingold to remove his attack ad from the air, the Senator’s campaign reportedly agreed to remove the illegally used footage from their ad. But in just one more example of Senator Feingold saying one thing and doing another, he continues to run his misleading attack ad, despite the NFL’s request.

“Senator Feingold’s tendency to talk out of both sides of his mouth is nothing short of shameful and dishonest,” Ron Johnson for Senate Spokeswoman Sara Sendek said. “Just like a typical career politician Senator Feingold told the NFL and the public the ad would be pulled, while continuing to air the very ad in question. It is time for Senator Feingold to end his partisan trickery and start being honest with the voters of Wisconsin.”

Eric Cantor Awarded By Manufacturers For Commitment To Pro-Growth Policies

Congressman Eric Cantor

Eric Cantor (R-VA) addresses the spring 2010 President's Club meeting By The Heritage Foundation Think Tank All Rights Reserved
WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-07) was awarded this week with the National Association of Manufacturers’ (NAM) Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence based on his strong voting record on behalf of American workers and manufacturers in the 111th Congress. This award recognizes members of Congress who are committed to pro-growth and pro-manufacturing policies that will grow the economy and create quality jobs.
“The United States is the most productive and innovative nation in history, and American manufacturers are a big reason why. Yet, I remain concerned that when I meet with local manufacturers in Virginia, they tell me that in order to remain competitive we must stop Washington’s assault on our free enterprise system. Faced with increasing uncertainty, they don’t know which burdensome tax hike, regulation or mandate will come next, and therefore are reluctant to hire new employees, assume risk and make investments—all crucial components of any economic recovery.

“Hard-working Americans need a signal that their government finally gets it. We can start by cutting spending, reining in the size of government, and replacing overregulation with smart regulation. These steps will help get Americans back to work and our economy going again. Right now, we must focus on fostering an economic environment conducive to investment, innovation and job creation which is why I will continue to fight for lower taxes and less government regulations on the working people of Virginia,” Congressman Cantor said.

Background: The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) is the nation’s largest industrial trade association representing small and large manufacturers in every industrial sector and in all 50 states. Voting records for all members of Congress are available at www.nam.org/111thCongress. The NAM is non-partisan, does not have a political action committee and does not endorse candidates. ###

Austin Scott Surges to 8 Point Lead in New Poll

Austin ScottResults Reveal Backlash Against Marshall’s Big-Spending Record and Negative Ads.

Macon, GA - Small businessman and GOP State Rep. Austin Scott has surged into an 8-point lead over Democrat incumbent Jim Marshall, according to a new poll commissioned by his campaign.
The poll, conducted from September 26-27 by American Viewpoint – Sen. Isakson’s pollster – shows Scott ahead of Marshall by a 46%-38% margin among the 300 likely voters surveyed. The survey has a +/- 5.7% margin of error.

Scott said, “Our team is very encouraged by these numbers. This poll shows what we’ve known all along—the voters in this district are concerned with the economy and job creation and want to put a stop to the big-spending, big-debt, job-killing agenda of Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Jim Marshall. But make no mistake, we have 32 days of hard work ahead of us. These results show that our common-sense conservative message is resonating, and that voters want a check and balance on Obama’s agenda in Washington.”

Among the poll’s other encouraging findings, only 34% of voters say Marshall’s done his job well enough to deserve re-election, while a majority (53%) say it’s time to give someone new a chance.

An American Viewpoint survey from July showed Scott trailing Marshall by a 39-44% margin. Since then, Marshall has launched a misleading, negative campaign. But Scott has responded forcefully by pointing to Marshall’s real record – including his support for Obama’s failed stimulus that helped create jobs in China, not Georgia.

Campaign spokesman Sam Ray said, “These numbers show why Jim Marshall has been desperately trying to distract from his voting record and what it’s done to the economy. This poll show voters agree we must have a new direction focused on halting runaway spending, promoting private sector job growth and getting the economy back on track.”

Jeff Perry Campaign Launches Web Video of Quincy Visit With U.S. Senator Brown

Senator Brown calls for greater fiscal responsibility and an end to 'dirty politics' by Democrats

SANDWICH – The Jeff Perry for Congress campaign launched a Web video today highlighting United States Senator Scott Brown's visit to Quincy yesterday in support of Jeff Perry.

During his visit to Quincy, Senator Brown spoke highly of Jeff Perry and said he hopes Perry can join him in Washington to fight against higher taxes and spending.

"I've known Jeff for awhile. We worked in the Legislature together," said Senator Brown. "Being the new guy in Washington, I need other new people who are going to be fighting the raising of taxes and the spending that's going on. Somebody who's going to be a fiscal hawk, and concerned about our national security. And, it's important to have someone who's independent and who's going to fight for the interests of the people of the 10th [Congressional District]."

Reducing the size of the $13 trillion national debt is a fiscal priority for Perry in his campaign. Last week, Perry pledged publicly not to request earmarks in the federal budget, earning him the endorsement of the nationwide Council for Citizens Against Government Waste Political Action Committee (CCAGW PAC) in the 10th Congressional district race. He has also voiced support for passage of constitutional amendments for a balanced budget and for presidential line item veto authority.

Senator Brown also addressed repeated campaign attacks against Perry by his Democratic opponent during the campaign.

"It's important for Bill to start focusing on the issues and get the election out of the gutter," Brown said. "When I was campaigning, my opponent tried that kind of 'dirty politics' playbook on me, and the voters rejected it. A lot of the issues that he's discussing have been aired, and the people down in the 10th [Congressional District] spoke. People are concerned about jobs, taxes, spending, debt, and how we protect ourselves from any terrorist activities. And I encourage him to start talking about the issues."

Speaking about Brown's visit in support of his campaign, Perry said, "I appreciate Senator Brown's support. Like Senator Brown, I am concerned about the lightning pace at which our national debt is increasing. At more than $13 trillion, our national debt is quickly becoming a national security issue, in addition to threatening the quality of life for future generations. I am prepared to go to Washington to keep taxes low and cut out the wasteful spending so we can reduce our national debt and get our federal budget back on track. We cannot continue with business as usual in Washington."
