Dan Debicella New Survey Shows CT-4 Race a Dead Heat, Tied at 42-42 Percent

Dan Debicella with his wife Alexandra

Dan Debicella with his wife Alexandra
Norwalk, CT – Debicella for Congress today released the results of a new poll showing Dan Debicella in a dead heat with Jim Himes, while Dan continues gaining significant ground among key groups of voters.

“Among likely voters, Dan has caught Jim Himes and the race is now a dead heat at 42 to 42 percent,” said Debicella spokeswoman Ashley Maagero.
“With just 30 days to go until the election, Jim Himes’ desperate attempts to mislead voters about Dan’s record are not working. Dan has now overtaken Himes in several important categories, including those who are most likely to vote (+2), and leads independents (+19 at 47-28). Overwhelmingly, voters in the district oppose Jim Himes’ support of the failed stimulus package, massive government bailouts and his record of voting 95 percent of the time with Nancy Pelosi and liberal Democrats. The trend is clear: the more voters learn about Jim Himes, the less they like him. The inverse is true for Dan.”

“As the mood of voters strongly trends Republican, Congressman Himes’ most recent decision to cast the deciding vote to adjourn Congress before voting on the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts has left Fairfield County families stranded again. It is clear Himes will continue to face an uphill battle against his own record, as key voting blocks keep breaking Dan’s way.”

Top Lines

* Dan Debicella and Jim Himes both garner 42% in our latest survey, with 14% undecided. This represents an improvement from our August poll, where Himes led Dan by a 42%-38% score. Thus, Himes has been stuck at 42% for over a month, despite his barrage of negative attacks against Dan.
* Dan leads 47%-28% among voters with no party affiliation.
* Dan leads 44%-42% among voters who are most likely to turn out.
* Among voters who have heard of both candidates, Dan leads 45%-42%. Among voters who have an opinion of both candidates, Dan leads 53%-38%.
* The Republican leads the generic ballot, 43%-41%.
* By a 50%-40% margin, voters prefer a Republican to provide a check and balance to the Speaker and the President, rather than a Democrat who will support their programs.
* The Bottom Line: For the ballot to be tied at this stage is a testament to Dan and the kind of candidate he is. He has clearly weathered a significant assault, courtesy of Himes and DCCC, and he is in a stronger position than ever.
* Beyond Dan’s strengths, is the fact that the overall national political environment favors Republicans, and actually continues to grow more strongly in our favor.
* National Research Inc. conducted a telephone survey in Connecticut’s 4th Congressional District on September 27-28, 2010. The survey was conducted among 300 likely voters and has a margin of error of +/- 5.66% in 95 out of 100 cases. 36% of the sample are registered Democrats, 34% are registered Republicans and 30% are registered unaffiliated/undeclared voters.
* National Research Inc. is a national political and corporate polling firm, whose client list includes New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Congressman Leonard Lance, and Republican candidates and officeholders throughout the country.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell Weekly Republican Address TEXT VIDEO 10/02/10

Good morning. This is Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

Over the past 19 months, we’ve witnessed something truly remarkable in Washington.

We’ve seen a governing party basically tune out the American people who elected them and aggressively advance an agenda that most Americans vehemently opposed.

In fact, the more Americans spoke out against government takeovers, government-run health care, wasteful spending, and debt, the more Democratic lawmakers seemed to dig in.

This is a pretty risky approach in a nation where the government, to quote the Declaration of Independence, derives its powers from the consent of the governed. It’s also the main reason most people expect Republicans to do pretty well in the upcoming November elections.

But Republicans aren’t under any illusions. We know voters are primarily interested in stopping the government freight train and sending a message to both parties this November.

They want all of us to know that we work for them, not the other way around.

And they want us to do something about jobs. Because chronic unemployment is not a second-tier issue: it’s a national crisis.

At the moment, nearly 15 million Americans are currently looking for work and can’t find it.

Another 11 million are working below their skill levels.

Yet virtually every single piece of major legislation Democrat leaders in Washington have proposed over the past 19 months has made it either harder for businesses to hire new workers or retain the workers they already have. And now they want to make it even worse.

Earlier this week, Democrat leaders who’ve spent the past year and a half working tirelessly to expand the reach of government, left town without doing the single most important thing they could have done for jobs.

Too preoccupied enacting the rest of their agenda, they neglected to pass or even propose legislation that would prevent one of the largest tax hikes in history.

As a result, at the stroke of midnight on December 31st, every American who pays income taxes is set to get a tax hike that Democrats have had two years to prevent.

The lowest income taxpayers will see a 50% increase in their federal income tax rate on their first $8,000 of income.

Middle class Americans will get hit hard, at the worst possible time.

Parents will see the child tax credit they’ve enjoyed for nearly a decade cut in half.

Many young people with college degrees will see the deduction they get on their loan interest vanish.

The death tax will rocket from 0 percent to 55 percent, meaning many Americans will soon have to hand over more than half of everything they have to the federal government before leaving it to their families.

Hundreds of thousands of small businesses will get socked with a job-killing tax hike.

And young couples will be penalized even more than they already are just for getting married.

All of these changes would overturn provisions that have been the law of the land for nearly ten years. And allowing them to happen at a time when so many are struggling makes no sense at all if you want to help the economy — something even the President admitted in the past.

That’s why I proposed a bill last month that would extend current law and prevent any of these tax hikes from taking place, S.3773, the Tax Hike Prevention Act.

Unfortunately, Democrats weren’t interested.

In the final days of the session, they had other priorities.

And whenever they were asked about this looming tax hike, they just blamed the Republicans.

They said that Republicans will be to blame for some people getting a tax hike because we didn’t think anyone should get a tax hike …

Now, I don’t get it either.

The fact is, the best way to help individuals and small businesses and the economy is to give them all the certainty that their taxes won’t be going up at the end of the year.

But Democrat leaders in Washington appear to have other plans with your money.

As the President recently said, and I’m quoting him directly: ‘I’ve got a whole bunch of better ways to spend that money.’

So after maxing out the national credit card on a failed Stimulus bill and a government-run health care bill, they want even more. And that’s why they are now holding middle class Americans hostage in a pursuit of their foolish desire to tax America’s job creators in the middle of a recession.

It makes you wonder who they’re listening to. I’m Mitch McConnell. Thanks for tuning in. ####

Carl Paladino Fred Dicker Statement Of Michael Caputo Camoaign Manager, Paladino For The People VIDEO

The New York Post sent a photographer to the Buffalo home where Carl Paladino's 10-year-old daughter lives with her mother. This photographer attempted to take photos of the child through the windows and subsequently attempted to follow the girl to a playground.

We believe this conduct puts Carl Paladino's daughter in harm's way, susceptible to kidnapping or sexual predators. This behavior by The New York Post and their senior political editor Fred Dicker is unacceptable. Endangering the safety of a 10-year-old child is repugnant.

Carl Paladino is passionate about the need to clean up the mess in Albany. The only thing he is more passionate about is his family. Carl is deeply concerned about the privacy of his children and grandchildren. His concern is well founded: in April his corporate and campaign office was threatened with a bomb by a serial felon - this man is being prosecuted today.
Fred Dicker has demonstrated his bias in this campaign from the beginning. Veteran observers recall a similar bias during the campaigns that elected Eliot Spitzer and George Pataki.

On September 17th, Mr. Dicker wrote of Cuomo's "tax and spending cut plan," although Mr. Cuomo has proposed no tax cut and no spending cut. Rather, Andrew Cuomo proposes to "slow the rate of growth of taxes."

When Andrew Cuomo's campaign charged Carl Paladino with receiving millions of dollars in state leases, Mr. Dicker failed to note that Andrew Cuomo or his Democratic predecessor reviewed and approved all of Mr. Paladino's leases.

When Mr. Dicker attacked Paladino campaign chairwoman Nancy Naples, for awarding bond underwriting to an underwriter active in the Conservative Party, Mr. Dicker failed to note that the Comptroller who succeeded Nancy did the very same thing and Nancy was never accused of any improper conduct. And Mr. Dicker knew it, because I told him. He failed to write it because it didn't fit the Cuomo campaign plan.

Andrew Cuomo is on Fred Dicker's speed dial.

Sadly, while Fred Dicker may be on the payroll of The New York Post, his outrageous bias toward Mr. Cuomo is demonstrated again and again through his coverage of this campaign. Every political reporter and observer in the state knows his bias.

Carl Paladino has been repeatedly asked irrelevant questions regarding relationships he may have had while married. We challenge Fred Dicker to ask Andrew Cuomo this question on the record, since it has been posed repeatedly to Carl Paladino: "Did you engage in extramarital relationships while you were married?" A simple "Yes" or "No" will suffice.

Mr. Dicker will not ask this question of Cuomo, nor will Andrew Cuomo answer it.

Mr. Dicker gets extra Cuomo Brownie Points by claiming Carl threatened him. Carl has used this exact word choice throughout this campaign and several times on Mr. Dicker's radio show: he'll take out this government. He'll take out the bad guys. He'll take out Sheldon Silver.

Carl feels the same about Mr. Dicker, who is the best example of the cozy relationship some media have with the ruling elite. This is part of the problem in Albany, and Carl will take out the trash.

Mr. Dicker's real purpose in this charade is to help Andrew Cuomo avoid a public debate, where he might be forced to answer questions about his disastrous stewardship of the U.S. Department of Housing, where he's largely responsible for the sub prime mortgage crisis by requiring government agencies to purchase hundreds of millions of dollars worth of bad mortgages, costing U.S. taxpayers $2.4 trillion or why he has failed to prosecute Obama advisor and big Democratic fundraiser Steve Rattner for bribery, instead prosecuting the state official whose brother received the bribe, but not prosecuting Mr. Rattner, who made the $77,000 bribe in order to receive $75 million in state pension funds.

New York voters can judge Carl Paladino and Andrew Cuomo's relative fitness for the governorship only through such a debate. If Andrew Cuomo does not have the courage to debate his opponents, how can he have the courage to break the stranglehold of the special interests destroying this state?

Carl has returned to Buffalo to console his upset daughter. The Post photographers are gone. But will Mr. Dicker, who has no children, publish the photos? That is Carl's main concern. ###

Rick Scott Leads In Florida Gov Race 49 43 percent Quinnipiac University Poll

Scott Leads In Florida Gov Race, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; Obama Approval 16 Points In The Hole.

Republican Rick Scott holds a 49 - 43 percent lead over State Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink, the Democrat, in the race to become Florida's next governor, according to today's Quinnipiac University poll of likely voters whose overall low opinion of President Barack Obama appears to be dragging Sink down.

Scott's lead comes despite a television advertising campaign that voters say they find annoying, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University survey, conducted by live interviewers, finds. This first likely voter general election survey in Florida in this election cycle can not be compared with prior surveys of registered voters.

Although Scott holds a 6-point lead in the horse race, the candidates have almost identical favorability ratings from Florida likely voters: 39 - 39 percent for Sink and 41 - 40 percent for Scott.

Florida likely voters disapprove 56 - 40 percent of the job President Obama is doing. Democrats approve 83 - 15 percent, while disapproval is 92 - 6 percent among Republicans and 56 - 38 percent among independent voters.

"Rick Scott's millions in TV advertising may annoy voters, but it won him the Republican nomination and is pushing him to a 6-point general election lead," said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

"It's no surprise that Scott's campaigning and advertising has been trying to tie State CFO Alex Sink to President Barack Obama. The president's low ratings, especially among independents who are likely to decide the governor's race, are a problem for Ms. Sink's campaign."

"It's a fair bet that if the president had a 56 - 40 percent approval rating, instead of the opposite, Sink probably would be ahead," Brown added.

Although Sink could become Florida's first female governor, there is only a small gender gap in the matchup: Women support Scott 47 - 43 percent while men back him 50 - 42 percent.

Only 14 percent of likely voters who name a candidate say they might change their mind, including 16 percent of Sink backers and 13 percent of Scott supporters.

"There aren't very many undecided voters and relatively few who say they might switch their allegiance, which means this race is likely to be close until Election Day," said Brown. "Whichever side does the best job getting its people to the polls is likely to be the winner."

Scott's edge in the horse race may be tied to the public perception that he would be better able to rebuild the state's economy, 48 - 39 percent, than can Ms. Sink. On rebuilding the economy, Scott enjoys a 48 - 34 percent lead among independent voters.

Scott, a former health care executive, was a political unknown until last spring when he began the biggest television advertising campaign in Florida political history.

Among likely voters, 89 percent said they had seen Scott's TV ads and 54 percent of that group call the ads annoying, while 40 percent say they are informative. But 43 percent of likely voters say Scott's campaign advertising is "the right amount" while 38 percent call it "excessive," and 11 percent say "not enough."

Almost as many likely voters, 87 percent, have seen Sink's commercials. This group splits 47 - 46 percent on whether the ads are informative or annoying. More than half, 51 percent, say the Sink ad spending is "about right," while 17 percent call it "excessive" and 21 percent say it's "not enough."

From September 23 - 28, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,151 Florida likely voters with a margin of error of +/- 2.9 percentage points.

The Quinnipiac University Poll, directed by Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D., conducts public opinion surveys in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Ohio and the nation as a public service and for research. For more data or RSS feed - http://www.quinnipiac.edu/polling.xml, or call (203) 582-5201.

Joe Barton on Waxman Net Neutrality Proposal

Congressman Joe BartonWASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Joe Barton, ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, today made the following statement about the net neutrality proposals from Chairman Henry Waxman:

“I appreciate the efforts Chairman Waxman has made to craft a congressional solution to the problem that the Federal Communications Commission has created by attempting to reclassify broadband Internet service.
“With Chairman Waxman’s effort comes a tacit admission that the FCC is going down the wrong path, a path that will stifle investment and create regulatory overhang in one of the most dynamic sectors of our economy. I am glad that there seems to be a fairly broad consensus that the FCC should not reclassify Internet service under the monopoly-era Title II of the Communications Act.

“I have consulted with Republican leadership and members of the Energy and Commerce Committee, and there is a widespread view that there is not sufficient time to ensure that Chairman Waxman’s proposal will keep the Internet open without chilling innovation and job creation.

“It is not appropriate to give the FCC authority to regulate the Internet. If the Congress wants to prevent the FCC reclassifying internet service under Title II it should go ahead and do so without qualification.

“This is not a solution for the future of the Internet. America should be about preserving the vibrant and competitive free market that exists for the Internet and other interactive computer services, unfettered by federal or state regulation. The free market has produced 200 million broadband subscribers in the last 10 years.

“If the majority wants to work on a solution to continue a free and open Internet, let’s consider the issue deliberately, rather than punting with a halfway measure two days before the end of Congress. ”

San Francisco Chronicle: Brown Campaign Stunt: A Bunch Of Garbage

CUPERTINO - Today, the San Francisco Chronicle published an editorial in response to the false and ridiculous accusations made by notorious Attorney Gloria Allred at a press conference this morning. Read the whole editorial below:

San Francisco Chronicle: Campaign Stunt: A Bunch Of Garbage

Editorial

"What did Meg Whitman know and when did she know it?" publicity hound attorney Gloria Allred asked Wednesday. It was a savvy close to a news conference at which client Nicandra Diaz Santillan, who worked as a housekeeper for Whitman, alleged that Whitman knew that she was an illegal immigrant, then fired her in 2009 as she prepared to run for governor.

Turns out, there are reasons to believe that Whitman did not know that Diaz was illegal when she hired her in 2000.

The campaign released copies of the Social Security card and immigration eligibility verification form presented by Diaz when she was hired. By Allred's account, these documents are phony. Having exhibited a willingness to fake legal status, the housekeeper's credibility is damaged.

I've known smart people who thought they were following the law in demanding documentation, only to find out later that they were duped.

In this case, Diaz also presented a driver's license. DMV spokesperson Jan Mendoza tells me, "It was a valid driver's license." California did not require proof of legal residence until 1994. Diaz got her first license in 1991.

To any voter who ever has hired a nanny, gardener or housecleaner, this would appear to be due diligence - especially for a 15-hour per week job that, according to Diaz, paid $23 per hour.

This story goes to the heart of the dilemma that faces Californians who welcome legal immigrants, but also believe in respecting federal law. What was Whitman supposed to do, not trust Diaz because she has an accent?

Allred repeated Whitman's assertion during Tuesday night's gubernatorial debate: "We do have to hold employers accountable for hiring only documented workers. And we do have to enforce that law."

That's why, Whitman says, she fired Diaz when she realized she was illegal.

At the press conference, Diaz complained that she felt as if, after nine years' service, Whitman "was throwing me away like a piece of garbage."

Whitman called firing Diaz "one of the hardest things I've ever done."

What proof does Allred have that Whitman knew? Allred alleges that the Social Security Administration sent a letter informing the Whitman household that their housekeeper's Social Security number did not match her name.

Whitman and her husband deny having seen such a letter. So far, Allred has failed to produce it.

"If Ms. Whitman would like to dispute our claims of what she knew and when she knew it, then she should be prepared for the release of evidence," Allred said. And you thought the burden was on the accuser.

"This entire political circus is targeted at one demographic," said Whitman spokesman Tucker Bounds. "New polling numbers show that Jerry Brown is nearly losing in the Latino community. This is a political play."

Brown spokesman Sterling Clifford released a statement that hit Whitman for showing "that she thinks the rules don't apply to her. After more than a year of Whitman demanding immigration policy that 'holds employers accountable,' we learn that accountability doesn't extend to her own actions."

Without proof that Whitman knew about Diaz, that's a cheap unsubstantiated shot from the Brown camp.

Read it at the San Francisco Chronicle here: Campaign stunt: a bunch of garbage

CUPERTINO - Please see the following statement from Meg Whitman and attached background materials in response to news reports that notorious attorney Gloria Allred will hold a press conference to discuss political allegations from a former Whitman employee. Included with Meg Whitman's official statement is background concerning Nicky Diaz's employment from the campaign's legal counsel accompanied by a background of Gloria Allred's political activism and partisan support for Jerry Brown:

Meg Whitman Statement:

"Nicky Diaz was my housekeeper from 2000 to 2009. We consider Nicky a friend of our family and were saddened this morning to hear about her legal action.

After 9 years of faithful service, Nicky came to us in June 2009 and confessed that she was an illegal worker. Nicky had falsified the hiring documents and personal information she provided to the employment agency that brought her to us in 2000. Nicky told me that she was admitting her deception now because she was aware that her lie might come out during the campaign. Nicky said she was concerned about hurting my family and me.

As required by law, once we learned she was an illegal worker, I immediately terminated Nicky's employment. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done. I considered Nicky a friend and a part of our extended family.

I am deeply worried about Nicky and her family. I believe Nicky is being manipulated by Gloria Allred for political and financial purposes during the last few weeks of a hotly contested election. This is a shameful example of the politics of personal destruction practiced by people like Jerry Brown and Gloria Allred. The charges are without merit. I will continue to focus my campaign on the issues that the people of California want to hear about: jobs, education and fixing our broken budget system in Sacramento."

Timeline:

As early as 1999, Meg Whitman and Griff Harsh retained a placement agency in California to assist them in finding a qualified applicant for in-home domestic services.

In May 2000, Nicandra Diaz-Santillan filled out a standard application provided by the agency. She provided the agency with a social security number and California driver's license number as well as filling out a standard employment application including references of prior employers over a lengthy period of time.

In November 2000, Nicandra Diaz-Santillan was hired by Meg Whitman. At the time she was hired, she filled out a standard IRS form W-4 and U.S. Department of Justice Immigration and Naturalization Service form I-9. Ms. Diaz provided a copy of her Social Security Card and her California Driver's License. Ms. Diaz signed the I-9 stating under penalty of perjury that she was a lawful Permanent Resident Alien.

During her employment, Meg Whitman paid state and federal income tax and provided Ms. Diaz with a standard IRS form W-2.

On or about, June 20, 2009, Ms. Diaz came to Meg Whitman and Dr. Harsh and confessed that she was not a legal resident and that she had used her sister's documents to gain employment. Diaz was immediately suspended.

On or about Monday, June 29, 2009, Meg Whitman informed Ms. Diaz that her employment was terminated.

There has been no further contact between Ms. Diaz and Meg Whitman since her termination.

U.S. Chamber Launches TV Ad Blitz in California

“28 Years of Barbara Boxer” Highlights Senator’s Wasteful Spending and Anti-Jobs Record

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today launched the television ad “28 Years of Barbara Boxer” in Los Angeles and across California to highlight Senator Boxer’s tax-and-spend voting record, which has helped drive away California jobs.

“America is going broke because Barbara Boxer has voted to raise taxes and add trillions to the national debt during her nearly three decades in Washington,” said Bill Miller, national political director for the Chamber. “Her burdensome policies are making California businesses less competitive, costing the state jobs.”

“If you want to know why California can’t create or keep new jobs, the answer lies at the doorstep of career politicians like Barbara Boxer,” Miller said. “Our ad reminds Californians of Boxer’s anti-jobs record and urges the Senator to stop supporting ballooning budget deficits.”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations. # # #

Harry Reid’s “Pet” on the Leash: Chris Coons “Pledges His Vote” to Embattled Majority Leader in Lame Duck Session

Christine O'Donnell's Victory Speech

Christine O'Donnell's Victory Speech
Wilmington, DE – Though he desperately claims to be an “independent voice,” liberal tax-hiker Chris Coons (D-DE) has once again proven himself to be U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-NV) “pet.” As the Examiner’s David Freddoso reports, “Chris Coons… promises in a fundraising email today that he will vote with Democrats in the coming lame duck session of Congress.”
Coons has previously come under fire for bragging that his first vote as a U.S. Senator would be to keep 27-year incumbent Harry Reid as Senate Majority Leader, and for admitting he “would broadly support the agenda of our President…” adding, “in general, I think we need more folks in the Senate of the United States who are willing to vote… with [the] Administration.”

“Delawareans deserve to have a representative in the U.S. Senate who votes their interest, and isn’t just a waterboy for Harry Reid. The lame duck session of Congress will be make-or-break for the U.S. economy – a vote with Harry Reid to raise taxes on American families and job creators could spell disaster. To sign a blank check for Harry Reid before even winning an election is unconscionable. He owes the people of Delaware an apology,” said Christine O’Donnell.

Dino Rossi, Patty Murray’s top priorities, a tax hike on profits of U.S. companies

Bellevue, WA – One of Sen. Patty Murray’s top priorities, a tax hike on profits of U.S. companies with foreign subsidiaries, would hurt Microsoft and other corporations and drive jobs out of Washington State. Sen. Murray has touted her efforts to protect jobs for Washingtonians, even though Microsoft, the state’s second-largest private employer which has numerous locations worldwide, stands to lose big if the tax hike becomes law. The Senate could take up legislation on Tuesday which would jeopardize jobs for Washingtonians at a time when the state is already facing high unemployment.
“It’s incredibly disturbing Senator Murray would choose partisan politics and angry rhetoric over supporting Microsoft and the many Washington companies that operate in countries around the world,” said Rossi.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer told Bloomberg News that this type of tax hike “makes U.S. jobs more expensive. We’re better off taking lots of people and moving them out of the U.S. as opposed to keeping them inside the U.S.”

“Washington State has a unique economy where many of our companies are engaged in commerce across the globe, which lends to jobs for tens of thousands of Washingtonians,” Rossi added. “Apparently Senator Murray still doesn’t understand that when you punish job creators, they will go elsewhere. There is never a good time to send good-paying jobs overseas, but, with Washingtonians facing high unemployment, Senator Murray’s mission to hurt good Washington State companies like Microsoft could hardly come at a worse time.”

This politically-motivated bill being marketed as yet another “jobs bill,” is expected to have little positive effect according to experts. Anne Mathias, a tax analyst at Concept Capital’s Washington Research Group said, “I don’t think this package is going to be successful.”

“Health care ‘reform’ will cost Boeing $150 million up front, and result in health insurance premium increases for Boeing workers, and now she’s targeting Microsoft,” Rossi concluded. “It seems like Senator Murray is going down the list of our state’s top employers, and doing as much damage as she can. If Senator Murray is really standing up for Washingtonians, she needs to oppose this latest attempt to score political points and instead push for full extension of the 2001 and 2003 tax relief packages.”

Harry Reid Prevents Senate Vote to Give Tax Cuts to Every American VIDEO

He has decided to continue to put Americans at risk in this economic climate.

Just when we thought Senator Reid couldn’t get any more delusional, he has decided to delay a vote that would give tax cuts for every American. As we found out earlier this week that Nevada’s unemployment rate continues to soar under Senator Reid’s failed leadership, the Majority Leader proposed to attach the DREAM Act, which would give taxpayer-funded benefits to illegal immigrants, to the Defense Authorization Bill.

The Sharron Angle for Senate campaign released this statement from spokesman Jerry Stacy regarding Harry Reid’s decision to delay a vote to provide tax cuts for all Americans:

"Harry Reid would rather give tax breaks and taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal immigrants instead of hard-working Nevadans suffering from the highest unemployment rate in the nation. At a time when we need tax relief most, Reid is freezing a recovery because small businesses owners know their taxes are going up. If Senator Reid was trying to hurt the economy, he wouldn't be doing anything differently. He has supported massive tax increases, pushed Obamacare down our throats, and rammed through “Stimulus”— further signifying how out of touch he is with everyday Nevadans paying the price for his failed policies." # # #

Ken Buck calls on appointed Senator Michael Bennet to Pledge No New Taxes in Lame Duck session of Congress

Ken BuckKen Buck calls on appointed Senator Michael Bennet to Pledge No New Taxes in Lame Duck session of Congress.

Harry Reid's late-night announcement opens door to Thanksgiving tax hikes
DENVER—Republican Senate nominee Ken Buck called on appointed Senator Michael Bennet to pledge to vote against tax hikes in a post-election session of Congress. Buck sought reassurance from the Appointed Senator after a late-night announcement by Senator Harry Reid on Thursday that opens the door to tax hikes during the lame-duck session.

“Appointed Senator Bennet must come clean about whether he will support tax hikes in a lame-duck session of Congress,” said Buck. “I call on Bennet to pledge he will not follow any plans by Senate Democrats to raise taxes after the election on Nov. 2.”

Late last night—conveniently after many newspaper editors had gone home for the day—Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced that Congress would punt until after the election votes on the extension of the Bush tax cuts. If Congress does not act, on January 1 tax rates will increase dramatically across the board: every single personal income tax rate will go up, the child tax credit will be cut in half, the marriage penalty will come back, and the capital gains rate and the estate tax will skyrocket. Letting all of the Bush tax cuts expire would be disastrous to the economy and job-creators, and so observers agree that the Senate will have to take up the issue before Jan. 1.

But kicking the decision to a lame-duck session of Congress signals clearly that Harry Reid's proposed action—letting some of the tax cuts expire—is too politically-risky for endangered Democrats like Bennet. The thinking goes that after the election, Democrats will feel less pressure from voters to extend all of the tax cuts.

"Appointed Senator Bennet first was in favor of broad-based tax increases, but now as he takes heat from over-taxed Coloradans, he has waffled on which taxes he wants to hike and which ones he will let stay at current levels. Senator, why don't you just shoot straight with Coloradans and tell them where you stand?" said Buck Campaign Manager John Swartout. "Americans are on the cusp of rejecting the Democrats' over-taxing, over-regulating, over-spending agenda. The Appointed Senator needs to look Colorado voters in the eye and promise that he won't follow his Democrat leaders and rubberstamp Thanksgiving tax increases."

Both the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post have reported on preliminary Democratic plans to move major and unpopular legislation during a lame-duck session. The Journal reported that Democratic leaders in Congress have talked about tax increases during the lame duck to coincide with the lame duck release of the Congressional deficit commission's report right after Thanksgiving. The Journal also quoted one senior Democrat as saying the "lame duck would be the last chance, quite honestly, for the foreseeable future" to pass Card Check—a bill Senator Bennet hasn't been willing to take a position on for his entire 20 months in office. The Journal article is available online here: online.wsj.com/article

Although Appointed Senator Bennet has refused to take a position on Card Check, he has been candid about raising the estate tax (the "death tax"), which is currently phased out. He has also voted for every Obama budget that has come before him, and he has taken separate, up-or-down votes specifically in favor of other senators' pork projects. One Senate aide told the Journal that a post-election lame duck could be the "biggest porkers' . . . last hurrah."

Buck continued: "I call on Appointed Senator Bennet to pledge not to support cap-and-trade, spending bills that increase discretionary spending, or Card Check in the lame-duck session. Elections have consequences. Bennet needs to honor the will of the American people if they rebuke the spend-and-regulate Democratic agenda. He can tax, spend, and regulate to his heart's desire if he and his Democratic friends come back to Congress in January. But Americans have had enough of being ignored. It's the Appointed Senator's responsibility to tell Coloradans whether he will move this big government agenda in a lame duck."

John Dennis Challenges Nancy Pelosi To A Televised Debate On Issues That Matter To Voters In The 8th District Of California

Congressional Candidate John Dennis personally delivers formal debate invitation To Pelosi's San Francisco Federal District Office.

San Francisco, CA -- Congressional candidate John Dennis personally delivered a formal invitation to debate to the offices of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, located in the new downtown Federal Building (California 8th Congressional District, San Francisco, CA).
The written debate invitation, which included a request for response from the Congresswoman by Wednesday, September 22nd, was accepted by a staff member and delivered to Pelosi's District Director.

"The voters need to compare and contrast our positions on the critical issues facing the district and the nation," John Dennis said. "They need to know why she has turned her back on our district and reversed her position on many key issues. Ms. Pelosi has never explained these reversals, ranging from her support of the Patriot Act to voting to continue the Afghanistan war to supporting bank bailouts. Voters deserve to see how we compare on issues that affect every citizen in our district. This can only happen in a formal debate aired throughout San Francisco."

The John Dennis campaign will be posting a "Debate Watch" clock at the Campaign website. It will track the time it takes for Congresswoman Pelosi to respond to John Dennis' invitation. The Campaign will also post an online petition for visitors to sign which will urge Pelosi to accept John Dennis' invitation.

“Families, homeowners and small business owners are struggling under mounds of debt and taxes,” added Dennis. “The wars wage on, the federal government continues to recklessly spend and the economy is not getting better. Under Pelosi’s leadership, Washington has created failed policies and excuses that need to be debated in a fair and honest forum.”

The John Dennis for Congress campaign offered to cover the logistic expenses of a televised debate, in order to save taxpayer dollars.

Loretta Sanchez Racist words against the Vietnamese people VIDEO

California Democratic Congresswomen Loretta Sanchez’s racially-charged statement was made during an interview with Univision and aimed at her opponent, Van Tran, the Republican state assemblyman whose family had to flee Vietnam after the fall of Saigon.

“The Vietnamese and the Republicans are, with an intensity, trying to take away this seat — this seat that we have done so much for our community – take away this seat from us and give it to this Van Tran, who is very anti-immigrant and very anti-Hispanic,” she said according to a translation on YouTube.

Tran’s campaign strongly condemned the comments.

“At a time when our state faces an unemployment rate above 12 percent, Loretta Sanchez resorts to insensitive racist attacks against her own constituents,” said Tran campaign spokesman George Andrews. “Her attack against immigrants and the Vietnamese community on national television is shocking. The 47th Congressional District belongs to the people and not an individual ethnicity.”

Sanchez’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

Washington (Sep 24) In the Weekly Republican Address, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) discusses “A Pledge to America,” a new governing agenda built by listening to the American people and focused on addressing their top priorities – including creating jobs, cutting spending, and changing the way Congress works. Rep. McCarthy talks about how this agenda could be implemented today if President Obama and Democratic Leaders would allow it. Now in his second term, Rep. McCarthy serves as chairman of the America Speaking Out project that culminated in Thursday’s release of “A Pledge to America.”
Congressman Kevin McCarthy“Hi, I’m Congressman Kevin McCarthy of California.

“This week Republicans made a Pledge to America.
“Our new governing agenda answers the question so many Americans are asking: will we leave to our children a stronger, healthier, more prosperous country than our parents left us? As we stand here before you, the future of our country hangs in the balance. Across this great nation, mothers and fathers wonder if their children will find the same opportunities for success that existed just a generation ago.

“Can you blame them? As a result of the economically disastrous policies of the current administration, millions of Americans are out of work today, and our children will be saddled with a deficit and debt that is -- by every definition -- out of control.

“We have more people depending on food stamps to feed their families than at any point in history. The economy is so dire that one in six Americans has to rely on government assistance for financial support. One in six. The land of opportunity has become the land of shrinking prosperity.

“Americans across the country are outraged, and so are we. Just as John Hancock boldly signed his name to the Declaration of Independence so that even Britain’s King George could read it, I want to say this slowly so there is no room for misinterpretation…

“Our government has failed us.

“From the billion-dollar bailouts to the ‘stimulus’ package that failed to stimulate to the government takeover of health care, you cried “STOP!”…but the Democratic Majority in Washington has refused to listen.

“I am speaking to you on behalf of Republicans to tell you that we’ve been listening, and we’ve heard you. We heard you loud and clear, and we assure you that there is nothing more inspiring than the common voice of the common man.

“When you said you wanted a prosperous, competitive economy, we heard you.

“When you said you wanted a more accountable government, we heard you.

“When you said you didn’t want a government takeover of health care, we heard you.

“We know that you want a government dedicated to working for the people, and that’s why we’ve written this Pledge to America. This pledge isn’t about Republicans or Democrats, liberals or conservatives – it’s about you.

“This pledge focuses largely on three things:

* a plan to create jobs, end economic uncertainty, and make America more competitive;
* a plan to cut wasteful Washington spending and reduce the size of government;
* a plan to reform Congress and restore trust in government.

“The new agenda embodies Americans’ rejection of the notion that we can simply tax, borrow and spend our way to prosperity. It offers a new way forward that hasn’t been tried in Washington – an approach focused on cutting spending – which is sadly a new idea for a Congress accustomed to always accelerating it.

“To put Americans back to work, our agenda seeks to eliminate uncertainty for the private-sector innovators and entrepreneurs who create jobs.

“And it commits to immediate action to change the way Congress works, recognizing that the current structure is rigged to minimize public scrutiny and facilitate unnecessary spending.

“This pledge is a governing agenda that could be implemented right now if the powers-that-be in Washington would allow it. We are calling on Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid to implement these proposals before Congress adjourns for the fall.

“We go forward now with optimism and a firm belief that we live in a land of great promise and great possibilities… a land where – until recently, our tomorrows have held more promise than our yesterdays.

“We are not ready to concede the fight for the prosperity of our country. We refuse to believe that the same American dream that shone so brightly for our parents has dimmed for our children. We must reverse our current course of action and reject the job-killing policies of the Democratic Majority. We will take back our country and restore our right to a better future.

“This is our pledge to America.”
