In the Weekly Republican Address, House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-IN) calls for immediate enactment of Republicans’ Pledge to America in the face of continued uncertainty surrounding the state of the economy. Rep. Pence talks about how this governing agenda includes clear and positive plans to help create jobs, cut spending, and make Congress more open and accountable. The Pledge offers a new way forward that hasn’t been tried in Washington – an approach focused on ending uncertainty instead of creating more of it and an approach focused on cutting spending instead of accelerating it
Mike Pence“Hello, I’m Mike Pence of Indiana.

“These are difficult times in the life of this nation. Families are hurting, American businesses are struggling. In the city and on the farm, the economic policies of this administration have failed.
“Wherever I go, everyday Americans tell me they’re tired of runaway federal spending, bailouts and takeovers.

“And they tell me they’re worried that everything they’ve worked for could someday be gone.

“This week, the world rejoiced as 33 miners emerged safely from months of dark captivity in a deep Chilean mine.

“Today, many Americans feel trapped under the weight of historic spending and government mandates.

“Every day, they see Washington putting our children and grandchildren deeper in a hole of historic debt.

“Something has got to give.

“Today, our national debt stands at more than $13 trillion – that’s more than $44,000 of debt for every man, woman and child in this country.

“The administration promised that if Congress borrowed a trillion dollars from future generations, their ‘stimulus’ bill would keep unemployment below eight percent. Today unemployment remains at a heartbreaking 9.6 percent, making this the longest period that unemployment has been at or above 9.5 percent since the Great Depression.

“In September, the economy lost another 95,000 jobs. More than 14 million Americans are out of work and millions more have just quit looking for a job. The American people know more spending won’t mean more jobs.

“But the president and Democrats in Congress just aren’t listening.

“And to add insult to injury, they want to add a tax increase to their failed economic plans. That’s right. After months of deficit spending and government takeovers, Democrats in Washington want to raise taxes in the worst economy in decades.

“Despite the fact that some in their party were willing to vote to prevent any tax increase, Democrats in Congress chose to leave Washington to try and save their jobs without even allowing a vote to protect the jobs of millions of Americans threatened by higher taxes.

“If Congress fails to act, every American will see a tax increase in less than 100 days. 88 million taxpayers in the lowest bracket will face a minimum tax increase of $503. Middle income families will face an average tax increase of $1,540. And small business owners will face higher taxes on income, capital gains and inheritance.

“You know, Washington, DC, doesn’t tax too little, Washington, DC, spends too much. Raising taxes on job creators won’t create jobs.

“No American should see a tax increase in January and Republicans are determined to oppose any effort to raise taxes on any American in this difficult economy.

“Uncertainty is the enemy of our prosperity. The American people should not have to wait one more day for Congress to act to prevent one of the largest tax increases in American history from taking effect.

“Speaker Nancy Pelosi should call Congress back into session immediately and allow an up-or-down vote on preserving all current tax rates.

“The prosperity of the American people is more important than the political fortunes of any politician or any political party.

“This administration suggests that our choice is between the failed economic policies of the present and the failed economic policies of the past, but there is a better way.

“Last month, I joined my House colleagues at a hardware store in Virginia to unveil our Pledge to America, a specific set of proposals that could be enacted today to start getting federal spending under control and get this economy moving again. The Pledge to America calls on Congress to immediately cut spending back to pre-‘stimulus,’ pre-bailout levels, to refund unspent ‘stimulus’ funds and to preserve and promote the kind of tax relief that will create American jobs.

“We can get federal spending under control and reform Congress. We can let the American people keep more of what they earn and create jobs. We can return our national government to the common sense and common values of the American people.

“You can read more about our agenda at pledge.gop.gov. We will build a stronger and better America.

“Our best days are yet to come. Thanks for listening.”

Rossi for Senate Campaign Statement on Spokane Debate.

Spokane, WA— Rossi for Senate campaign manager Pat Shortridge made the following statement after the debate between Sen. Patty Murray and U.S. Senate candidate Dino Rossi
“Tonight, Washington voters were presented with a clear choice between continuing with Sen. Murray’s failed policies which have driven up the debt, expanded government, and put our economy in jeopardy, and Dino Rossi’s commonsense policies which will restore fiscal discipline in Washington, D.C. and economic growth in Washington State.

“Dino will go to the U.S. Senate and represent the interests of Washington State, while Sen. Murray leaves Washingtonians wondering whether she represents them or her fellow insiders in Washington, D.C.

“Washington voters are looking for a leader who will work for pro-growth policies to get our economy back on track and put people back to work, and they were reminded tonight that Dino Rossi is that leader. They know he will end the corporate bailouts, special interest earmarks, and insider deal-making that produces fiascos like the health care bill. The debate offered no doubt that Dino is the only choice to bring about the course correction so badly needed in D.C.”

John Dennis Comments on Judge's Ruling Allowing States' Healthcare Suit to Proceed

Uncle Sam Enjoying ObamaCare

By Fresh Conservative AttributionNoncommercialShare Alike Some rights reserved
San Francisco, CA -- Today, John Dennis, entrepreneur and candidate for the California 8th Congressional District, issued the following statement on today's court ruling which allows U.S. states to proceed with their lawsuit that seeks to overturn President Barack Obama's landmark healthcare reform law:

“While this is only a first step, it's an important ruling to overturn a poorly written and poorly conceived legislation addressing the nation's growing health care costs.
Nancy Pelosi and her Democrat colleagues should pay the political price for ignoring the public and forcing the wrong solution of mandatory health care insurance on Americans who are already burned by Congress’ excessive taxation, failed policies and reckless spending.

"American families are having enough problems keeping food on the table and lights on in their homes. As your next Congressman, I will help our families and small business owners by working to immediately repeal the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010. Under Nancy Pelosi’s leadership, Congress has done nothing but take care of their Fat Cat CEO friends in the insurance business and special interest groups that continue to buy their support through campaign donations.

I believe that the courts will eventually conclude that the Pelosi and her colleague's unconstitutionally imposed one the most drastic intrusions into our private lives in recent memory, which will likely increase in health care costs, and generate huge profits for their friends at the big insurance and drug corporations. We need to start over in January with the new 112th Congress and find equitable health care reforms that address and provide reasonable solutions for all Americans.”

O’Donnell Closing in on Opponent in Latest Poll

Christine O’Donnell, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, is now within 11 points of her opponent, New Castle County Executive Chris Coons. It marks a 10-point jump following the debate on Wednesday at the University of Delaware.

“It is clear that as voters become increasingly aware of my opponent’s liberal record of increasing taxes and wasteful spending, they understand the real choice that they face on November 2,” said O’Donnell, who would be seated immediately to fight in the lame duck session should she win the election.

“Does Washington really need another career politician rubber-stamping the radical agenda which has put our country on the wrong track? Delawareans know that we have an opportunity to send a message to Washington -- to stop the tax hikes, the bailouts, the slush funds, and cronyism by returning power to We the People.”

The poll was conducted on Oct. 14 by Rasmussen Reports, and had a very scientific 500 likely voter sample. The results are as follows: 40% Christine O’Donnell 51% Chris Coons 5% Some other candidate 4% Not sure

Chairman Michael Steele Meeting with Charlotte Bergmann to help fire Nancy Pelosi! VIDEO

Chairman Michael Steele Meeting with Charlotte Bergmann to help fire Nancy Pelosi!

Charlotte Bergmann is a fiscal conservative!

Bailouts have to stop. The U.S. government cannot insure every investor against failure. Such spending is bankrupting the country. No business is "too big" to fail. If a company that is providing a necessary service fails, some other private investor who knows how to run a business will buy it, and make it profitable. Every taxpayer bailout devalues the dollar in your wallet or purse! What has our government successfully run? The Post Office is bankrupt, Social Security is bankrupt, Medicare is bankrupt, and most public school systems are broke. The people need jobs! Reducing the tax burden and regulation on small businesses works every time it's tried!

Who is Charles Lollar? VIDEO

Who is Charles Lollar? VIDEO, Who is Charles Lollar? Let the voters of Maryland's 5th Congressional District tell you!

Charles Lollar is a concerned citizen, taxpayer, hard working business executive, Major in the United States Marine Corps Reserves and most importantly a father of four and a devoted husband.

Charles was born in Toppenish, Washington, a sleepy western town boasting a diverse mix of cultures. His father, a tax consultant, instilled in him an old fashioned work ethic while his mother, a librarian, taught him how to be compassionate and caring for his fellow man. Their efforts would prove to be essential to him and have a huge impact on his future.

At the age of 13 Charles delivered newspapers before going to school every morning. He worked his way through both high school and college by bagging groceries, stocking shelves, and selling items door-to-door.

After attending McEachern High School, Charles earned an AA degree from Emory University, a Bachelor's of Science degree in Political Science from Kennesaw University and an MBA from Regent University.

Not surprisingly, his "get up and go" attitude, willingness to work hard and desire to excel in service to others led him to join the one organization that would enable him to achieve all of the above, the United States Marine Corps. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps where he was on active duty in Kosovo. During his time as an active-duty Marine, he graduated from Officer Candidate School and was awarded several medals and decorations including: the Kosovo Campaign Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Combat Action Ribbon, and Joint Meritorious Unit Award. Presently, Charles serves as a Major in the Marine Corps Reserves where he is an intelligence officer.

Professionally Charles is the General Manager for Cintas, a facility services corporation with over 23 million dollars in sales. He oversees 170 employees at their Prince George's County, Md. facility, a role which has enabled him to interact extensively with the diverse and varied communities of Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince Georges, and St. Mary's County.

Never one to ask of others what he would not do himself, Charles has been active in numerous community organizations. He serves on the Executive Board of Directors for the Maryland Chamber of Commerce and is also a member of the DC Chamber of Commerce. He is a graduate of both Leadership Maryland and Leadership Prince George's County. Charles also served as the Chairman of the Charles County Republican Central Committee and the Chairman of the Maryland GOP Taxpayers Commission where he fought to protect the interests of Maryland taxpayers.

Charles and his wife, Rosha, have been married for sixteen years and reside in Charles County, Md. They are the proud parents of four daughters ranging in age from eleven to fifteen years old. Charles and his family are active members of Trinity Christian Center.

Dr. Marvin Scott Letter from Newt Gingrich

Dr. Marvin ScottDear Marvin: I want to wish you the very best on Election Day!

The stakes could not be higher for our nation this November. I am sure that your own deep concerns about the enormous challenges facing the families in your area, your state and our country motivated you to make the sacrifices required to run for public office. Thank you for taking your beliefs, values and aspirations into the public square.
I am also very pleased that you share my commitment to transforming government at every level to save America. Creating a new model of how government works is essential to addressing the most critical issues facing our nation today, including taxation, regulation, litigation, health, energy, education, and infrastructure.

Policies you are supporting will not only help transform government but they will also provide lower taxes, less government, and real job creation. Those policies, not the Democrats’ policies of higher taxes, more government and job killing legislation, are what will finally put America back on the road to recovery.

The growing public excitement and support surrounding our policy ideas is why I believe the votes cast on November 2nd have the potential to create a sea-change election, just like 1994!

I ran for office thirteen times myself (two losses followed by eleven straight wins), so I have a pretty good idea of what your life is like right now. These will be days that you look back upon as the most exhilarating and exhausting of your life!

Thank you for the courage you have shown and the sacrifices you and those close to you have already made for our nation. Callista and I wish you all success, on Election Day and in all the exciting days that will follow.

Your friend, Newt Gingrich

Rand Paul Jack Conway Kentucky Senate Debate Fox News Sunday VIDEO TEXT TRANSCRIPT

Rand Paul Jack Conway Kentucky Senate Debate Fox News Sunday VIDEO TEXT TRANSCRIPT

The following is a rush transcript of the October 3, 2010, edition of "Fox News Sunday With Chris Wallace." This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated.

CHRIS WALLACE, ANCHOR: I'm Chris Wallace, reporting from Louisville, Kentucky, and this is "Fox News Sunday." The Kentucky Senate showdown -- with 30 days till the election, it's one of the nation's most closely watched races. Republican Rand Paul, one of the original tea party candidates, who opposes government intervention in the private sector, and Democrat Jack Conway, the state's attorney general, who supports much of the Obama agenda -- Paul and Conway, in their only national debate, on "Fox News Sunday."

Then, a key player leaves the White House. We'll ask our Sunday panel what Rahm Emanuel's departure means for the midterms and a president seeking reelection.

And as Mr. Obama tries to whip up the Democratic base and Congress leaves town with plenty of unfinished business, we go "On the Trail," all right now on "Fox News Sunday."

And hello again from Fox News, today on the road in Louisville, Kentucky, the home of the most famous horse race in the world, the iconic Louisville slugger baseball bats, and now one of the hottest Senate races in November.

We are in the studios of WDRB TV, our Fox affiliate here in Louisville, and we're joined by the two contenders for the Kentucky Senate seat, Democrat Jack Conway and Republican Rand Paul.

And, gentlemen, welcome to "Fox News Sunday."

JACK CONWAY, DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR KENTUCKY SENATE SEAT: It's good to be with you.

WALLACE: I'd like to ask each of you to take a minute to lay out what you think is at stake in this race. What is the choice for Kentucky voters?

Dr. Paul, why don't you start?

RAND PAUL, REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR KENTUCKY SENATE SEAT: Well, I think I'm very concerned about the debt that we're piling on -- I think mountains and mountains of debt.

I'm concerned about President Obama adding trillions of dollars of entitlement programs.

I'm concerned about the president adding or allowing the largest tax hike in our history.

And I'm concerned about President Obama foisting cap and trade on Kentucky which will be a disaster for our coal jobs.

I think this election really is about the president's agenda. Do you support the president's agenda or do you not support it? I think his agenda's wrong for America. I will stand up against President Obama's agenda. And I think that's what people in Kentucky want.

WALLACE: Attorney General Conway, same question. What's at stake in this race? What's the choice for Kentucky voters?

CONWAY: Well, Chris, welcome to Kentucky. First of all, it's a real clear choice. I think we need to put the people of Kentucky first.

The special interests in Washington have enough people standing up for them. As attorney general, I have stood up for the people of Kentucky. I've taken on pharmaceutical companies when they have lied to our Medicaid program. I have taken on oil companies that have gouged us. I have taken on anyone that would do wrong by the people of Kentucky.

And there's a real clear choice in this race. There's a real clear choice between someone who has taken on the drug issue and someone who says that drugs aren't a pressing issue in Kentucky, someone who stands up to criminals and someone who says that nonviolent behavior shouldn't be a crime, someone who supports the rights of the disabled and someone who has said that he's against the Americans With Disabilities Act, between someone who's going to stand up and protect Medicare and someone who says in Medicare we need a $2,000 deductible. I mean, that's a really clear choice.

WALLACE: Attorney General Conway, you have even gone further than that. On the campaign trail you have called Dr. Paul "crazy." Your campaign ads call him "out of touch." Why?

CONWAY: I just think he's out of touch with the values of mainstream Kentuckians. You know, as Democrats, we need to talk about our values a little more. I think we value inclusivity.

We have 12,000 new disabled vets since 9/11 here in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. And I don't think it's appropriate to stand up and say that you're against the Americans With Disabilities Act in that environment.

I'm not saying Dr. Paul is crazy. I think some of his ideas are out of the mainstream and they're out of touch with the values of normal Kentuckians.

WALLACE: Dr. Paul, quite frankly, you say very little about Attorney General Conway on the campaign trail. You say nothing about him in your ads. Now's your chance, sir.

PAUL: We're waiting for him to catch up a little bit in the polls and then we may refer to him more. But really, he has to -- what he needs to do is he needs to either defend his president or run away. So far he's running away from President Obama and the agenda.

He supports "Obamacare." He supported repealing the tax cuts before he was against it, before he was before it again. Cap and trade, he's been on both sides of the issue. Kentuckians are not going to tolerate someone who's ambivalent on cap and trade. Cap and trade will be a disaster to our economy.

And these are the issues of the day, and these are the things that people want to talk about. People are concerned about jobs and the economy. And if we pass cap and trade, it will be a disaster to Kentucky's economy and to Kentucky jobs.

WALLACE: Let's talk -- and you kind of led in the direction that I wanted to head in this debate. Let's talk about jobs and the economy, which I think we would all agree are the key issues for voters here and across the country.

Unemployment in Kentucky is now 10 percent. In fact, it has been below that figure of 10 percent only one month in the last year and a half.

Attorney General Conway, you say -- and this picks up on what Dr. Paul was saying -- that you would have voted for the stimulus, you would have voted for TARP's $700 billion for Wall Street. And you would have voted for Obama's health care reform.

So if you had been in the Senate the last two years, you would have supported most of President Obama's agenda.

CONWAY: Some of President Obama's agenda. Listen, these are all hypotheticals. I've been attorney general of the Commonwealth of Kentucky the last two years.

The stimulus, a third of it went to tax cuts. No one talks about it. A third of it went to keeping the jobs of police and firefighters. And a third supposedly went to shovel-ready projects where the administration hasn't done that great a job.

Actually, I wouldn't have voted for the bailouts. The bailouts are -- there weren't enough accountability in them. You know? There were not enough accountability in them. We had people getting bonuses after getting the bailouts.

And on health care, look, we've got 654,000 Kentuckians getting health care for the first time as a result of this bill. I have a friend who's had a kidney transplant -- tells me how hard it is to get coverage with a preexisting condition. I'd like to fix health care. I'd like to make it more responsible going forward by allowing Medicare to engage in bulk purchasing.

WALLACE: You actually take me in the direction of the question I wanted to ask Dr. Paul. And incidentally, this is a free-flowing...

CONWAY: Sure.

WALLACE: ... debate. Feel free to talk to each other if you would like to.

Dr. Paul, you say you would have voted against the stimulus. Kentucky has received $2.9 billion, almost $3 billion, in stimulus funds. And according to records, to the government, 17,000 jobs were saved or created. What are you saying to those people? Fend for yourselves?

What I'm not for -- what I'm not for -- is the $2,000 deductible and taking our health care system back to a pre-World War II system, which is what Rand Paul's on the record as having said. So I'd like to fix health care. He wants to repeal it. And I think that's a stark difference. Kentucky Senate Showdown on 'FNS' | Fox News Sunday FULL TEXT TRANSCRIPT

Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barney Frank, and…Lisa Murkowski?

Anti-Reform Teachers Union Endorses Senator Murkowski

Anchorage, Alaska. -- Senator Lisa Murkowski recently announced on her website that she has achieved the dubious distinction of becoming the only incumbent Republican in the U.S. Senate to win the endorsement of the nation's largest teachers union -– the National Education Association.
With this honor, Senator Murkowski joins such political figures as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and Representative Barney Frank who have also received 'A' ratings from the anti-reform teacher's union.

"The NEA is so far to the left that even the Obama Administration's education policies like expanding charter schools and teacher performance pay have come under fire from this group," stated Miller campaign spokesman Randy DeSoto. "The fact that Lisa Murkowski received both an endorsement and an 'A' rating from the NEA speaks volumes about her liberal voting record."

A story on NEA's endorsements in the Washington Post (October 6) noted, "Critics of the union say that it stands for the status quo in education and against innovation." The story goes on to say, "In dozens of targeted races, most of the union's recommended candidates are Democrats. But NEA officials said they are backing selected Republicans who have supported their causes, including Sen. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska)...."

For the 2010 election cycle, the NEA has endorsed 316 candidates in House and Senate races. 303 of the endorsed candidates (96 percent) are Democrats; just 13 (4 percent) are Republicans.

Among the many votes that earned Senator Murkowski an 'A' rating from NEA was a vote to kill the popular "Opportunity Scholarship Program" in Washington, D.C., which allowed disadvantaged students to leave failing public schools and attend more academically rigorous and safer private schools.

DeSoto also stated he was curious about why the NEA would choose to back a write-in candidate over Democratic Party nominee Scott McAdams. "We certainly have our differences with Scott McAdams on the issues, but his educational credentials cannot be disputed," said DeSoto. "Mr. McAdams has served as the president of the Alaska Association of School Boards, he's a former member of the Sitka School Board, and he's currently the Director of Community Schools for the Sitka School District. We can only conclude that Lisa Murkowski's anti-reform voting record back in D.C. was more attractive to the NEA than Mr. McAdams' hands-on experience."

Isaac Hayes Support A True Conservative VIDEO

Support Illinois Conservative Isaac Hayes. Isaac is taking on Jesse Jackson Jr. in the Second Congressional District of Illinois.

HAYES URGES VOTERS TO GIVE JACKSON "A BREATHALYZER"

CHICAGO: Republican Nominee for Illinois 2nd Congressional District Isaac Hayes released the following statement in response to today's September Jobs Report that unemployment remains at 9.6%.

"Today’s unemployment number is a stark reminder that we need real change in Washington. Since Nancy Pelosi and her tax, borrow, and spend Majority gained control of Congress in 2006, the unemployment rate more than doubled from 4.6% to 10.6%. Unemployment remains high at 9.6%.

"In recent weeks, we have heard Republicans want to 'get the keys back' so they can 'drive the car back in a ditch.' But what they don’t want Americans to consider is the one Party rule that has controlled both Houses of Congress the last four years. So who really has been driving the car? Nancy Pelosi and Jesse Jackson Jr.

"Quite frankly, this 'Blame it on Bush' tantrum is rather childish. When I was growing up, we would throw snowballs at people and then, to avoid accountability, blame someone else for throwing them. This is what the Democrats are trying to do. They have driven the car in Congress – where bills are passed – for the past four years, but want Americans to believe that Republicans are the Party that got us into this ditch.

"7 million net jobs have been lost since Nancy Pelosi and Jesse Jackson Jr. began their anti-business crusade in the House of Representatives. $7 trillion has been added to the federal debt since Jesse Jackson Jr. went to Washington. Still, after voting 98% of the time with Mrs. Pelosi, he wants to add trillions more to the debt and enslave our great-grand children to foreign nations who are footing the bill. It is time we gave Jr. a breathalyzer and take the keys away.

"Like many American families, Latonya and I have had to reduce our spending and supplement our household income by withdrawing money from our retirement accounts. We understand that you can’t borrow and spend your way into prosperity. During difficult economic times you must spend less and borrow less so that you don’t find yourself facing bankruptcy. With nearly $14 trillion of debt, America is facing bankruptcy and the only solution my opponent can offer is to spend more, borrow more, and tax more. Is this what American families are doing?

"I get it. It’s time for America to live within its means and focus on reducing our debt, reducing our borrowing, and reducing our spending. The future solvency of our country is at stake and I am willing to make those tough decisions in the U.S. House so that American families are not forced to make those tough decisions in their houses." ###

Wauwatosa – Today, the campaign for Scott Walker released a new ad that sets the record straight on Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett’s slanderous attacks against Scott Walker.

Mayor Tom Barrett’s campaign recently released a TV ad that contained three fabricated Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (MJS) front pages aimed at distorting Walker’s fiscally responsible record as county executive.
“Unlike Scott Walker, who is focused on a debate about the issues, Tom Barrett continues to launch false, negative, and slanderous attacks against Scott Walker,” said Gilkes. “It’s unacceptable that despite the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s complaint about the Barrett’s use of their own news stories, Tom Barrett continues to stand by his slanderous attacks The people of Wisconsin deserve better than elected officials who make stuff up.

Eext Transcript (30): "Lies"

BARRETT: "So when it comes to the negative ads, I trust you to separate fact from fiction."

ANNOUNCER: "Well Tom Barrett, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel just did that. They said your ad against Scott Walker was like a forgery: using fake front pages, and pictures of Scott Walker in stories that weren't even about him.
'Pants on Fire' is the Journal Sentinel's ruling on Tom Barrett's deliberate distortions. Leaders are supposed to make a difference, not make stuff up."

Ron Johnson Russ Feingold Wisconsin Senate Debate 10/08/10 FULL STREAMING VIDEO

Ron JohnsonRon Johnson Russ Feingold Wisconsin Senate Debate 10/08/10 FULL STREAMING VIDEO.

Tonight, voters had a chance to see a clear choice between Senator Russ Feingold and Oshkosh Manufacturer Ron Johnson. Senator Feingold is a career politician who has been part of the problem in Washington. At the debate Senator Feingold showed he was all rhetoric and no results. Ron Johnson stood out as the candidate with the common sense solutions to move Wisconsin and our country in the right direction. Below are the facts on Senator Feingold’s failed policies and why he is wrong for Wisconsin voters.
On the economy…

The US and Wisconsin Have Lost Jobs Since The Stimulus Was Enacted: 2.6 million American jobs have disappeared since February 2009 and 79,657 jobs in Wisconsin have been lost. ((Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Local Area Unemployment Statistics – Wisconsin,” US Department of Labor, http://data.bls.gov/, accessed 10/7/10)

On cutting wasteful spending…

Feingold Has Voted For Over 33,000 Earmarks: Senator Russ Feingold Voted In Favor Of 47 Appropriations Bills, Which Included At Least 32,980 Items Of Pork Totaling More Than $98 Billion. (Citizens Against Government Waste Website, “Pig Book,” www.cagw.org, Accessed 7/30/10)

On health care…

CMS Says Health Care Spending Will Increase More Than Before ObamaCare Was Passed. “In February, the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services projected that overall national health spending would increase an average of 6.1% a year over the next decade. The center’s economists recalculated the numbers in light of the health bill and now project that the increase will average 6.3% a year, according to a report in the journal Health Affairs. Total U.S. health spending will reach $4.6 trillion by 2019, accounting for nearly one of every five U.S. dollars spent, the report says.” (Janet Adamy, “Health Outlays Still Seen Rising,” The Wall Street Journal, 9/9/10)

“U.S. Health Spending Is Projected To Rise 9.2% In 2014, Up From The 6.6% Projected Before The Law Took Effect.” (Janet Adamy, “Health Outlays Still Seen Rising,” The Wall Street Journal, 9/9/10)

On a radical environmental agenda…

White House: Cap and Trade Would Cost $1700 Per Family, Per Year. “The Obama administration has privately concluded that a cap and trade law would cost American taxpayers up to $200 billion a year, the equivalent of hiking personal income taxes by about 15 percent. A previously unreleased analysis prepared by the U.S. Department of Treasury says the total in new taxes would be between $100 billion to $200 billion a year. At the upper end of the administration’s estimate, the cost per American household would be an extra $1,761 a year.” (Declan McCullogh, “Obama Admin: Cap And Trade Could Cost Families $1,761 A Year,” CBS News, 9/15/09, cbsnews.com, accessed 10/8/10)

On tea party support…

When Interviewed By The New York Times in August, Sen. Feingold Attacked Members of the Tea Party Saying It Was Fueled By Hatred of President Obama, Not Government Spending. “I go to every county every year and hold a town meeting. Within days of the president being sworn in, I had people showing up at my town meeting with hats on, with tea bags coming out, saying this is going to be socialism.” (Jeff Zeleny, “10 Questions for Russ Feingold, The New York Times, August 31, 2010)

On Social Security…

In 1999, Feingold Voted Against An Amendment That Would Create A Social Security Lockbox. “Motion to invoke cloture (thus limiting debate) on the Lott, R-Miss., amendment that would create a Social Security ‘lockbox,’ establish declining limits on the public debt and create a Senate point of order against any provision that would exceed the debt limit.” (S. 557, CQ Vote #211: Rejected 52-43: R 51-1; D 0-42; I 1-0, 7/16/99, Feingold Voted Nay)

The Justice Department Credited The Patriot Act With Enhancing Information Sharing That Could Have Prevented 9/11. “The Justice Department credits the Patriot Act with expanding the government’s arsenal of investigative tools, helping it crack several cases. Law-enforcement officials say the act has greatly enhanced information sharing within the FBI, and with the intelligence community at large. The law helped erode the legal and bureaucratic ‘wall’ that used to separate the intelligence and criminal sides of an investigation. Federal authorities say this wall is at least partly responsible for FBI and CIA intelligence failures prior to the attacks of Sept. 11.” (Larry Abramson, Maria Godoy & Katie Gradowski, “The Patriot Act: Justice Department Claims Success,” www.npr.org, 7/20/05)

Florida Senate Debate Marco Rubio Charlie Crist Kendrick Meek 10/06/10 FULL STREAMING VIDEO.

Orlando, FL – Following today’s (10/06/10) U.S. Senate debate on ABC 9 in Orlando, Rubio for Senate spokesman Alex Burgos released the following statement:

“There are over 1 million Floridians who are out of work, but all Kendrick Meek and Charlie Crist offered tonight were false attacks, partisan name-calling or calls to continue on the current path of higher taxes, more debt and bigger government.
Over the course of 60 minutes, Marco once again made clear what more Floridians have been learning over the past 20 months – that he’s the only candidate in this race who will go to Washington, stand up to politicians in both parties who have taken our country in the wrong direction, and offer a clear alternative based on ideas and principles.

“Kendrick Meek wants to continue on America’s current direction while Charlie Crist could care less what direction we go in so long as he can be a senator. But Floridians know we simply can’t afford the next two years to be like the past two years. It’s clear that the current agenda being pursued in Washington stands in sharp contrast with the mainstream ideas Marco Rubio supports to promote job creation, tackle our dangerous debt and ensure our country remains the strongest nation on earth.”

Mark Kirk Alexi Giannoulias Debate Meet the Press 10/10/10 VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

Meet the Press transcript for Oct. 10, 2010 Mark Kirk, Alexi Giannoulias, Peggy Noonan, Joe Klein

MR. DAVID GREGORY: This Sunday, the countdown to November 2nd, Election Day. The president is on the trail trying to protect home turf, stumping for the Democrat vying for his old Senate seat.

(Videotape)

PRES. BARACK OBAMA: You can trust him. You can count on him.

(End videotape)

MR. GREGORY: As the GOP threatens to change the balance of power in Washington, the fight for the Illinois Senate seat is still too close to call. This morning we kick off our election year Senate debate series with a showdown between the Democrat, Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, and the Republican, Congressman Mark Kirk. The big issues: jobs, spending and taxes, and the credibility questions dogging both candidates, making this an intensely negative campaign.

Then, our political roundtable on the bigger picture. How new jobless numbers affect the campaign, whether Democrats can make the election a closer contest than most expect, and another high-level departure from the White House. With us, Time magazine columnist Joe Klein and The Wall Street Journal’s Peggy Noonan.

Announcer: From NBC News in Washington, MEET THE PRESS with David Gregory.

MR. GREGORY: Good morning. With only 23 days to go, the campaign team of President Obama and Vice President Biden heads to Philadelphia today to try to rally Democrats to turn out for Pennsylvania Senate candidate Joe Sestak. But here in Washington this morning it’s all eyes on the tight battle in Illinois.

(Videotape, October 7, 2010)

PRES. OBAMA: Hello, Chicago. Oh, it’s good to be home.

(End videotape)

MR. GREGORY: The fight is personal for the president.

(Videotape, October 7, 2010)

PRES. OBAMA: In some very tough circumstances, in a tough political season, you know, he has not wavered. And that’s the kind of person that you want. That’s the kind of person that you know when the going gets tough in Washington will be fighting for you.

(End videotape)

MR. GREGORY: Democratic State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, neck and neck with five-term Republican Congressman Mark Kirk, battling for perhaps the most famous Senate seat up for grabs in this midterm race: President Obama’s former seat. For the GOP, it’s the ultimate prize.

MR. CHUCK TODD: The fact of the matter is if Democrats hold the majority, it’ll be because they held the president’s Senate seat. If they lose the majority, it means that one of the seats they lost is the president’s Senate seat. That’s the ultimate repudiation if you’re a former Illinois senator now sitting in the Oval Office.

MR. GREGORY: It is also a race that was marred by scandal from the start. When President Obama left one end of Pennsylvania Avenue for the other, then-Governor Rod Blagojevich ignored objections from Democratic leaders and appointed a former state attorney general, Roland Burris, to the seat. Blagojevich was later arrested, charged with attempting to sell the president’s old Senate seat. Then the campaigning began and the scandals continued.

(Clip from campaign ad)

MR. GREGORY: Kirk, a Navy reservist, has a list of erroneous or exaggerated claims about his military record, including his service in the Gulf War and during the invasion of Iraq. And Giannoulias, a 34-year-old former college basketball star who played professionally in Greece, has been plagued with questions surrounding his family’s troubled bank and whether Giannoulias, at the time a senior loan officer at the bank, was aware of $20 million in loans to a pair of Chicago criminals.

MS. LYNN SWEET: If all you’re looking at is the negative side, you have a choice between a serial embellisher and a mob banker.

MR. GREGORY: So how will Illinois voters decide, and what will the outcome say about this midterm campaign?

And joining me now, Republican Congressman Mark Kirk and Illinois State Treasurer Democrat Alexi Giannoulias.

Welcome to both of you to our studio and to this debate, MEET THE PRESS style. So there are no set rules. We’re sitting around this table, we’re going to have a conversation, and we’re going to go through the issues. And there’s a lot to get to, so let’s get to it.

I don’t have to tell you both, the specter of President Obama hangs over this race because indeed it was his Senate seat that you are now vying for. And it was on Election Day, November 4th, 2008, in Chicago, when the president and his family appeared after he was then the president-elect, and this is what he said.

(Videotape, November 4, 2008)

PRES. OBAMA: It’s been a long time coming. But tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America.

(End videotape)

MR. GREGORY: Mr. Giannoulias, let me start with you. How would you define the change that has come to America under President Barack Obama?

MR. ALEXI GIANNOULIAS: Well, I think it’s important to put things in context. And if you look at the mess that he inherited and the enormous challenges that he inherited—a trillion-dollar deficit, increasing job losses—I think he’s done everything he can to help turn this economy around. The question is, going forward, what more can we do? We focused our campaign on creating private sector jobs, we’ve talked about infrastructure, we’ve talked about moving forward with the next generation of clean energy, clean energy jobs, tax breaks to small businesses, a job creation tax credit for small business, a payroll tax holiday for low to moderate income workers, doing everything we can to get that $1.5 trillion that’s, quite frankly, sitting on the sidelines in the private sector, encouraging and promoting economic growth.

MR. GREGORY: But the country’s better off in this economic recession because of the change that President Obama brought?

MR. GIANNOULIAS: I think if you look at what would’ve happened if some of the measures weren’t taken—and again, they weren’t, weren’t perfect. For example, I think when you look at TARP, the bailouts for the biggest banks, something that Congressman Kirk voted for, I think I would’ve liked to have seen, as a, as a former community banker, some more oversight, some more accountability, requirement that these banks lend money to help increase access to capital, something we’ve done in the State Treasurer’s Office. I think that was a, a missed opportunity.

MR. GREGORY: Congressman, you had said at a rally back in March, a GOP rally, that Obama, that we—about the president, “We are on the way to making this guy a one-termer.” How do you answer that question? How do you define the change he’s brought to America?

REP. MARK KIRK (R-IL): A tremendous amount of debt. I’ve got a chart here that shows our debt-to-GDP ratio. And while we did run deficits in the past, we now number our debt in trillions rather than in billions. And I think that represents a long-term danger, especially to the, the American dream. Every American born today owes $43,000 to the federal government the day she or he is born. And we are transferring a tremendous amount of debt to the new generation, much of it owed to overseas creditors who expect to be repaid by our children with interest.

MR. GREGORY: But, Congressman, as a Republican member of Congress, do you really want to stand by your party’s record on the debt going back since you came to Congress?

REP. KIRK: No. I’ve become very much of a fiscal hawk here. I foreswore earmarks for my own congressional district, we could save $66 billion right there. The Kirk Amendment passed in the House that attacked the bridge to nowhere, even though it was in a Republican district, the chairman of the House Transportation Committee, and now it’s actually the bridges to nowhere will not be built.

MR. GREGORY: All right, I want to come back to the debt in just a minute, but I want to talk about the number one issue, I think, which is jobs, on the minds of every—unemployment is 9.9 percent in Illinois. And look at this chart, which is really a tale of woe in this country. You go back to 2009 in August; since that point, unemployment has been at 9.5 percent or higher. That’s 14 straight months. Congressman Kirk, I’ll start with you. What do you do at this point as the federal government to spur private sector job creation?

REP. KIRK: First of all, we recognize that the stimulus has largely failed. A very small part of it even went to infrastructure development projects. It didn’t answer the question, what happens when all the borrowed money runs out? Secondly, this Congress has been very, very viciously anti-business—new taxes, new regulation. We need senators and congressmen that will back a pro-growth agenda. For example, my Small Business Bill of Rights, 10 new policies to help out the number one employers in Illinois and the United States, small business. Half of all the jobs, 80 percent of the job losses in the great recession. They can’t afford a Washington lobbyist to go find stimulus money or a Washington lawyer to wade through the latest 1,000-page bill that congressional leaders haven’t even read.

MR. GREGORY: So tax, tax relief, tax cuts, in your mind, is really the job creation answer.

REP. KIRK: Well, a pro-growth agenda.

MR. GREGORY: Yeah.

REP. KIRK: Like making sure we don’t pass legislation to take away your right to a secret ballot in a union election. My opponent wants to take that right away, called the Card Check bill. I think that’s a terrible idea.

MR. GREGORY: All right, Mr. Giannoulias, how do you answer the question, job creation?
Advertisement | ad info

MR. GIANNOULIAS: I think one of the problem, I think one of the problems, quite frankly, is we have typical Washington, D.C., politicians who have forgotten what it’s like on Main Street. I’m the only candidate in this race who’s worked in the private sector. Congressman Kirk has been in Washington, D.C., for 20 years. If you’re thrilled with out-of-control spending, the out-of-control borrowing that has become the Washington, D.C., ethos, then Congressman Kirk is your man. I think what we have to do...

MR. GREGORY: My question is, what do you do to create private sector jobs, to put people back to work? What you just said doesn’t put anybody back to work, and that’s what people are wondering.

MR. GIANNOULIAS: So what we’ve done in, in the State Treasurer’s Office, for example, low interest loan programs, increasing access to capital. One of the biggest problems out there that I hear from my friends in the business community is that there’s no lending, that it’s tough to get a loan today. Even if you have a line of credit, it’s being tapped. So one of the first things that we need to do is find ways to increase liquidity, to increase access to capital, to make sure that $1.8 trillion that is sitting on the sidelines in the banking system, which can be leveraged to at least $18 trillion, we need to do everything we can to focus on that. We need to focus on green jobs: solar, wind, geothermal, biomass. There’s so many opportunities. But other countries like China are getting ahead of the curve.

MR. GREGORY: The government did do a lot with the stimulus, right? You had actually said the stimulus was not big enough. You’ve also said you’re going to lead a progressive caucus if you’re the senator from Illinois. Will you push the administration, if elected, to enact more stimulus, to spend more money to try to get more people back to work?

MR. GIANNOULIAS: If, if more stimulus means more tax cuts to small businesses, if, if more stimulus means middle class tax cuts, then I’m for it. I will tell you that we also have to keep in mind what the Recovery Act really did. A third of it was tax cuts to middle class families, a third of it was emergency measure to—emergency funding to state and municipalities, something that I’ve seen as state treasurer is important.

MR. GREGORY: But do you acknowledge it hasn’t done the trick? I mean, 14 months of unemployment. They said that it would—if you passed stimulus, it would—the unemployment would get to 8 point--8 percent; 9.5 percent for 14 straight months.

MR. GIANNOULIAS: I think, David, the bigger question is what would have happened—and it wasn’t flawlessly done. But if, if you take a look at what would have happened, I mean, do we need to see soup lines down the street to figure out what would have happened? We avoided—and all economists will tell you that millions of jobs were saved because of the Recovery Act, and we avoided a second Great Depression. That, that is a reality.

MR. GREGORY: All right, let me have you two engage on the big tax debate here. Congressman, do you think that the Bush-era tax cuts should be extended for all Americans?

REP. KIRK: Right. Like CNN just did a survey of economists...

MR. GREGORY: You believe that.

REP. KIRK: ...saying that they should not have a new big tax increase on December 31st. If you look what congressional leaders want to do, they want to hit the U.S. economy with a $900 billion tax increase on December 31st on top of the 10 new taxes that were in the healthcare bill, on top of the taxes that were in financial regulation bill, on top of the taxes that were in the August congressional legislation. I don’t think—the, the key danger here is will our policies increase the chance of a double-dip recession? If you look at the job numbers just last week, we have a significant danger of that. And taking more money out of the private economy and having the government perform as it has poorly done with the stimulus I don’t think is the right way to go.
Advertisement | ad info

MR. GREGORY: But it’s interesting you’d say that. And you said just a moment ago, if I heard you right, that you’re a deficit hawk, a fiscal hawk.

REP. KIRK: That’s right.

MR. GREGORY: Well, back in 2004 you were part of this Republican Main Street Partnership. And as part of that group, you had a press release on 2004. I’m going to put some of it up on the screen. “Today the Republican Main Street Partnership, the largest organization of elected moderate Republicans in the nation, offered six principles for the fiscal year ‘05 budget resolution that were designed to put Congress on a path toward a balanced budget. These principles,” you said then, “stand for a key value that once we adopt the budget, we must have the tools to stick to it,” said Congressman Mark Kirk. Now, here was a key part of that: “Tax cuts should only be extended temporarily and limited to those that are due to expire in 2004.” Key point: “We simply can’t afford permanent and across-the-board extensions at this time.” That’s what you said then, when the...

REP. KIRK: Right.

MR. GREGORY: ...when the debt was about one-third of what it was today. Congressman, how can we afford to make permanent tax extensions now with the Bush tax cuts in this climate?

REP. KIRK: Because especially in this climate we have congressional leaders that are not interested in spending restraint at all. For example, I back spending restraint across the board; at the DOD, like no second engine for the F-35 fighter, closing down Joint Forces Command, across-the-board reductions. When you look at the state of the economy right now, you have to set a priority. And my top priority is the deficit of jobs and economic growth, and especially this perception that the United States could be falling behind especially Asian economies. If we go through all the tax increases that congressional leaders propose—and by the way, Congress is going to come back right after the election in this lame duck session of Congress with a new round of spending in a omnibus appropriation bill, and new tax increases.

"America is rapidly transforming into a government-run enterprise ... American politicians are selling out America and its most cherished institution, that being capitalism."

“America needs a president who believes in America. America needs a president who will stand up for America and protect its language, its borders, and most importantly, its culture.

What American’s need is a president who seeks to empower the people and to allow the free market to determine value, not a president intent on empowering Government and misappropriating the resources of the productive class. America,

I will fight to give the power back to the people. My entire platform and all of my policies and decisions will be organized so as to achieve a much smaller, fiscally responsible, decentralized federal government, a robust economy run strictly on Free Market Principles, and the strongest National Defense on Earth.”

Senator John Barrasso Weekly Republican Address TEXT VIDEO 10/09/10

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Vice Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference John Barrasso (R-Wyoming) released the following weekly Republican address.

“I’m John Barrasso, United States Senator for Wyoming.
John Barrasso

Senator Barrasso And wife Bobbi get a picture with Allison Perry at the Annual Buddy Walk in Laramie, WY.
”The Code of the West says “when you make a promise, keep it.” In Washington, promises don’t seem to mean much these days.

“For almost two years, President Obama and Democrats in Congress have broken their promises on jobs, on spending and on health care.

“The White House promised that massive federal spending would keep the unemployment rate below 8%. Instead what taxpayers got was $800 billion in new debt and nearly 10% unemployment.
“48 states have lost jobs. Friday’s job figures confirm that far too many Americans are still looking for work.

“While the White House touts its Recovery Summer, most Americans see an alarming autumn.

“People are beginning to realize that the only jobs Congressional Democrats are really focused on are their own.

“The President promised to be financially responsible with your tax dollars. Yet our federal government continues down a ruinous path of outrageous spending, borrowing and piling more and more debt on future generations.

“Our nation is now over $13 trillion in the red. A number so large it’s difficult to imagine.

“Since Democrats took over the Congress, the national debt has grown by five trillion dollars and the President’s own budget says it will grow by trillions more by the end of his term.

“Astonishingly, instead of cutting wasteful Washington spending, President Obama and the Democrats plan to raise taxes. Last week, Congress fled Washington while one of the largest tax hikes in our nation’s history hangs over the heads of working families.

“Rather than forcing Congress back into session to do the people’s business, the President merely waved goodbye.

“Interviewed recently about why he wouldn’t extend all of the tax cuts, President Obama declared that he had, quote, ‘a whole bunch of better ways for us to spend that money.’

“With all due respect Mr. President, this money isn’t yours. It belongs to the American people.

“The Obama tax hikes are yet another job killing burden that the American people and American employers cannot afford. Raising taxes on anyone in the middle of a recession is the worst thing we can do.

“Our problem is not that we are taxed too little – the problem is that Washington spends too much.

“As a doctor, I’ve also heard from Americans who are concerned about the President’s broken healthcare promises.

“In Wyoming and across the country, we are now bracing for the President’s new health care law. As you may remember, during the debate over health care President Obama promised time and time again that if you like your current health care plan, you can keep it.

“Well, it’s now clear that the President has broken that promise too.

“In June, the Obama administration took two pages of the health care law and transformed them into 121 pages of bureaucratic rules, regulations, and red tape that clearly violate the President’s promise.

“Employers large and small across the country say they may be forced to stop offering health insurance to employees --- simply because of the cost and the penalties of the President’s new health care law.

“And millions of American seniors could be forced from the Medicare Advantage plans that they know and they like.

“At the time of his inauguration, President Obama talked about how the American people had entrusted him with a great responsibility to keep the public’s trust.

“The President has failed to keep his promises on jobs, on spending and on health care. Frankly, very little trust remains.

“The President’s policies are irresponsible, and unsustainable. Worse, many Americans fear the damage done by these policies may also be irreversible.

“I believe there is too much at stake, and far too much to lose, for us to allow bad policies and reckless spending to remain unchecked or unchallenged. And so we will fight for a dramatic change in priority and direction.

“Republicans have a Pledge to America. A Pledge to prevent tax hikes, to reduce federal spending, and to work every day to repeal the massive new health care law and replace it with commonsense reforms that lower costs.

“If you are tired of Washington’s broken promises, you now have a choice. More of the same or a new direction.

“Thanks for listening.”

Jerry Brown using highly offensive and derogatory language to describe Meg Whitman:FULL AUDIO

CUPERTINO -- The morning, The Washington Post published an article on Jerry Brown's problems gaining women votes. The issues was highlighted today when the Los Angeles Times released an audio recording that captured members of Brown's campaign using highly offensive and derogatory language to describe Meg Whitman:

The Washington Post: In California, Jerry Brown's Woman Problem By Karen Tumulty

Jerry Brown has developed a woman problem - specifically, the fact that he doesn't seem to grasp what it means to be running against one.

The Los Angeles Times reported Thursday that in a private conversation inadvertently captured on voice mail, California's Democratic candidate for governor and his aides discussed their intention to portray his GOP opponent, Meg Whitman, as a "whore."

The conversation between Brown and his aides was picked up on a voice mail recording that Brown had left for a police union official in early September, apparently after Brown believed he had hung up.

As the recording continued, Brown and his aides discussed the pressure that police unions were putting on him to follow Whitman in pledging not to reduce their pensions.

"Do we want to put an ad out? That I have been warned if I crack down on pensions, I will be - that they'll go to Whitman, and that's where they'll go because they know Whitman will give 'em, will cut them a deal, but I won't," Brown said.

At that point, someone - the newspaper reported it was not clear whether it was Brown or another person - asked: "What about saying she's a whore?"

According to the paper, Brown said: "Well, I'm going to use that. It proves you've cut a secret deal to protect the pensions."

In a statement by spokeswoman Sarah Pompei, Whitman's campaign said: "The use of the term 'whore' is an insult to both Meg Whitman and to the women of California. This is an appalling and unforgivable smear against Meg Whitman. At the very least Mr. Brown tacitly approved this despicable slur, and he himself may have used the term at least once on this recording."

Brown's campaign manager Steven Glazer acknowledged to the Los Angeles Times that "at times our language was salty. We apologize to Ms. Whitman and anyone who may have been offended." Brown spokesman Sterling Clifford told the newspaper that the person who used the term "whore" was not Brown.

In a race whose outcome may well depend on Whitman's ability to appeal to women voters, it was not the first time that the California attorney general has spoken of his female opponent in terms that could be interpreted as sexist.

A September Field Poll suggested that Whitman has managed to erase the Democratic Party's traditional advantage among women, which is a rare feat for a Republican in California.

In response to a question about that surge in female support in a radio interview last month, Brown suggested that women had been swayed by a deluge of negative advertising by Whitman's campaign.

"You wanna say bought, or paid for, or as she likes to say, 'invested,'" Brown said on KGO radio. "Buying 125,000 commercials, 90 percent of which are negative, that has to have an impact."

And during an appearance on the talk show "Good Day LA," Brown suggested to the hosts - two of whom were female and blond, as is Whitman - that staging a debate would bring "another blonde on the show."

The controversy over Brown's latest comments comes as Whitman is trying to tamp down a furor that could alienate Latinos, another crucial constituency with which she has been making inroads.

For more than a week, Whitman has been struggling with a controversy over the fact that she had employed for nine years a housekeeper who was not in the country legally. The former eBay chief executive, who has advocated stiffer enforcement of penalties against employers who hire illegal immigrants, said she did not know of the housekeeper's status until her employee admitted it, at which point Whitman fired her.

FORT WORTH – Today Gov. Perry received both the endorsements of the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) and the Dallas Police Association (DPA) for the 2010 general election.

“It is a true honor to receive the endorsements of the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas and the Dallas Police Association," said Gov. Perry. “Because of these brave men and women, people come to Texas knowing it’s a place where they can find a job, raise their families, and enjoy an outstanding quality of life.
The safety that the officers of the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas and the Dallas Police Association provide is crucial in keeping our communities safe and plays an essential role in our continued status as a national economic leader."

In his remarks, Gov. Perry reiterated that abolishing sanctuary cities in Texas will be a priority recognizing that some Texas cities have enacted sanctuary city rules that tie the hands of their police officers as they work to uphold the law. He announced he will make the abolition of sanctuary city rules an emergency item in the next legislative session, which will help ensure that Texas law enforcement professionals have the discretion to use their judgment as they work to keep Texas communities safe.

“Thanks to Gov. Perry’s steadfast support, Texas law enforcement officers and their families’ quality of life has improved,” said Todd Harrison, President of Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas. “Gov. Perry’s true commitment to law enforcement and conservative leadership has been solidified by his unwavering dedication to make sure we have the resources we need to continue protecting the lives of families across the state. Our organization believes the governor has earned our endorsement and deserves our ongoing support.”

CLEAT represents more than 17,500 local law enforcement officers in more than 80 local law enforcement associations. Its mission is to ensure that their brave men and women receive the rights, protections and respect they deserve for their role in enforcing the laws of Texas and protecting the lives and property of its citizens.

“Gov. Perry has been a tremendous help to the Dallas Police Association,” said Glenn White, President of the Dallas Police Association. “Throughout his tenure the governor has upheld his record of support of our police officers to the highest extent, which has been instrumental in allowing us to do our duty as law enforcement officers, effectively, and protect our citizens’ lives soundly. We are proud to endorse Gov. Perry for the 2010 general election.”

The Dallas Police Association is the original and the largest police employee group for Dallas Police Officers. The DPA has over 4,000 active and retired members and is open to any sworn member of the Dallas Police Department.
